Speedway toddler has surgery for stab wound

The 11-month-old boy who was stabbed by his father underwent surgery and is in stable condition this morning, Speedway police said.

Devin Chandler is recovering at Riley Hospital for Children after his father allegedly stabbed him and threw him out of a car in the 2300 block of Hermitage Court late Wednesday, Detective Jim Thiele said this morning.

The boy’s parents were getting ready to drive to a friend’s house at about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday when the his mother, Angela Limbrock, realized the baby’s car seat was still in their apartment.

Limbrock, 31, handed Devin to Chandler, who was sitting in the back seat, and left to get the car seat.

“As Limbrock exited the vehicle, she heard Chandler say ‘You bastard,’ ” Officer Michael J. Hart wrote in a police report. “Limbrock stated she turned around and Kevin Chandler threw the child, Devin Chandler, out of the vehicle. As Limbrock picked up the child, she observed a knife in (Devin’s) back.”

BUENA VISTA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Outside the home's front door lay a bare, blood-soaked mattress and box spring.

The house inside was infested with fleas, the plumbing was backed up, much of the furniture was broken and the stench of cat urine filled the air.

Matthew Booth, 34, was lying face-up on the mattress when he was shot in the head early July 30. His 13-year-old daughter told investigators she used a 12-gauge shotgun to shoot him in the face, a crime that her attorney said was precipitated by years of sexual abuse.

The Associated Press on Sunday toured the Elizabeth Township home, located about 20 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, and found revolting conditions.

"I've been in crack houses that have been nicer," said Eddie Rose, a private investigator hired by the girl's attorney, Patrick Nightingale.

The mother, who Ms. Thomas said was an aspiring model, still had a black steak knife in her possession. The weapon was covered with blood, police said.

Ms. Hawes, 22, was charged Thursday with two counts of murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

Shakayla Hawes, 3, and Jordon Hawes, 1, were pronounced dead at Medical College of Georgia Hospital at 3:30 p.m. by Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen.

“An Austrian man has been arrested after a woman said she was abused and kept prisoner by her father for 24 years, bearing him seven children, Austrian police said on Sunday.


Police, who were still trying to piece together details of the case, identified the woman as 42-year-old Elisabeth F.

They said she told authorities her father Josef, who had abused her since she was 11, had lured her into the basement of the block where the family lived in Amstetten in 1984, and drugged and handcuffed her before locking her up in a windowless dungeon.

The two oldest children, aged 18 and 19, as well as the youngest aged 5 had been locked up with their mother since birth and had never seen sunlight or received any education, police said at a news conference on Sunday.

The case only came to light when the oldest child became seriously ill and was taken to hospital in Amstetten.

"A 19-year-old girl was dropped off at the Amstetten hospital last weekend," a police spokesman said. "The girl is seriously ill and is fighting for her life."

Doctors appealed the girl's mother, who at that time was believed to have disappeared, to come forward to provide more details about the daughter's medical history.

Josef then brought Elisabeth and her remaining two children out of the dungeon, telling his wife that their "missing" daughter had chosen to return home, police said.
