Sooo... should I finish my trip report? Anyone reading our adventures besides Lipstickhiker... and mebbee a couple dogs, oh my goodys!

I will say that the trip to Kennasaw Mountain National Battlefield was a treat. I'd searched, found that on the Net and hoped to see it. As gojo said, you read about the brutality there, see the peacefulness of the hillsides now... at least you see how places heal after a war.

Also, one plaque talked about how the guns had started fires on the hillside. The Confederate general called out for a truce to the Northern troops. Many of the dead Yankee bodies were starting to be burned by the fire. The general called for both sides to stop fighting and help put out the fires and remove the bodies. He later received a humanitarian award for his actions.

It's a fascinating, horrible piece of our country's history.

I'm reading and enjoying the reports.

It has been my experience that small private trips get few posts.
Large public trips get plenty. You have to watch what the others are saying about you. lol

Thanks, SS. Ya just start to wonder if anyone reads them.

The photos had 250 hits in one day. Nothing overwhelming. So like I said, ya wonder.........

What never.

Actually, Liz, I believe the Confederate was a Lt. Colonel... from Arkansas.

He commanded his regiment to cease fire, then stood atop a rampart waving a white flag. When the Unionists stopped firing, he announced to them that many of their wounded were being burned alive by the brush fires, and they should be extracted.

If memory serves, Cons and Uns worked together to both put out the fire and rescue the wounded...

Heck lizs, gojo, I posted a trip report with pictures on one of my trips with my nephews.
It got a small fraction of the posts y'all have already.
I usually don't bother anymore unless it's a TT trip.

I hope Gizmo's driving has improved. Sheesh! He was all over the road when he was driving around here in MT a couple summers ago! I think he needed to move the seat up a little more.

LOL! Yes, his driving is better. Also -- when he's not driving -- he likes to hang out the wide open window on the passenger side, hair streaming backwards, looking like a hood ornament. Then I have to "spot" for him, keeping an arm behind him, so he doesn't fly out on a big bump in the road!

(And he simply MUST hang out the window! How would he otherwise see the deer and other "buddies" soon enough to start his big monster barking at them??!)

I love to hear from sarabelle. It's important to find out what she thinks of her new found mate. I guess giving a dead turkey instead of a ring is good enough for an engagement :{}

Actually, it was the carcuss of a cooked turkey - there wasn't enough meat to make a finger sandwich. It was an hilarious sight to see Giz coming up the road carrying that thing (I didn't know what it was until he got to my yard). The delectable dowery was half again his size! LOL!

I promptly began breaking it into smaller pieces for Belle, and smallest for Giz. They ate every crumb.

If you think about, Giz could have had it all to himself, but opted instead to share it with Sissy...
whatta guy!
