Good news
More moolah being spent, income levels up

I first posted this under bacpac's thread "Economy UP", but then noticed it is "fuego" (which half the people around here block). This isn't political, so here is a re-post.

The economy is not up.

The economy is hanging on the silver thread of your ability to produce.

How do you think that makes the rest of America feel?

You had better produce more so someone will hire me. Apparently YOU are not working hard enough so YOUR employer can grow and hire more people! :p

So we see today that Merrill Lynch reported losses of $9.8 due to morgage securities write-downs.
We see the Fed Chair on Capitol Hill arguing that action is needed to stave off recesssion. Polticians are even starting to take notice.
Still, the former CEO of Merrill, who was paid many millions of dollars for boosting profit on mortgage securities in the past, walks away with $161 million.
So you make millions (billions for Merrill) dealing in crap, and then make millions despite sending the economy down the pan.
He sits pretty while the US economy teeters on the brink.

I mean seriously - you've been posting here for how long (too long???) and you've suddenly realized I'm British.

I can just picture the scene as the 3watt bulb went off in your head - it's quite comical.

People have been saying the economy is about to collapse for decades. It's the same mindset of the people who've been for decades saying we're in for an imminent climate disaster.

I will take this “teetering on the brink” over the results of the liberal agenda Jimmy Carter gave us. We have a slow down in the rate of growth but it is still growth and almost full employment. We would do fine if the goberment would just get out of the way.

“People have been saying the economy is about to collapse for decades. It's the same mindset of the people who've been for decades saying we're in for an imminent climate disaster."

I'll grant ya that.

It's also kinda like the mindset of people who've been saying for decades that some omnipotent "enemy", the "commies" for instance, are about to come swarming ashore or bombard us into the stone age if we don't spend our children's future on military contractors.

To feed the contractors mostly.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that when you get to the top of the pile there appear to be no consequences for your actions.
Help #&%!$ up the economy, here's $161 million to make sure you don't suffer too much.

And teetering on the brink implies it can go either way. I'm actually a little concerned that we'll see inflation as a result of the panic that seems to be happening on the Hill now.
