“Has anyone tried it? I've heard the material is easily snagged. Any pros/cons?” 11:43:16 AM 4/30/04 “Sloppy Joe just bought one. Didn't get to use it on the Mammoth Flood Trip though.” 11:45:16 AM 4/30/04 “Can't fit 4 pitchers of beer in it....” 11:46:54 AM 4/30/04 “yam, you've tried, I take it?” 11:48:37 AM 4/30/04 “I can in my belly, though:)” 11:48:57 AM 4/30/04 “LOL! Nah. But I would guess that it'd be a tight squeeze..:-)” 11:49:58 AM 4/30/04 “hey embear, that material the Z pack is made of though, I heard it kinda "seals" itself together even after it gets holes in it. Like if you poke a pencil in it, it kind of squishes back together.” 11:53:24 AM 4/30/04 “I think you guys are getting the Z-pack and the G-pack confused again. The G-pack is silnylon, the z is derema with kevlar. The Z is much more durable than the G I had the G and returned it after 2 hikes. So far i like the Z although I haven't really given it a fair test. The Catskills next weekend will be the first real test.” 11:57:36 AM 4/30/04 “Yah but you can't share it with others if you bring it in that way, embear. Well, I guess you could, but that would be reallly grooooosssss...” 11:58:19 AM 4/30/04 “LtHiker--you're right, I was thinking it was silnylon....OOPS!” 12:01:11 PM 4/30/04 “I'm interested in the Z. Let me know how it works out for you LtHiker.” 12:03:21 PM 4/30/04 “Lthiker is right on the 2 packs. The material on the G pack is totally cool! I tried it out at a store a few weeks ago. It was not on the actual pack, just a sample sent to the vendor. He lat me punch a pen through the material a few times. After you rub the area with the hole (That sounded sick!) it re-seals itself. My only worry is if a real big tear or hole opened. The material is very thin and a big gash might not seal as well.” 12:06:10 PM 4/30/04 “I have raved about my Z pack on TT before and I'm more than happy to again, Awsome pack.” 12:06:17 PM 4/30/04 “I think it is safe to say anything by Gregory rocks. I love my Palisade pack.” 12:14:20 PM 4/30/04 “Yeah, I've also got a Palisade, but I'm looking for something a little more lightweight. Is the Z pack much lighter/smaller, or am I getting it confused with the G pack again?” 12:18:48 PM 4/30/04 “The Z is a little heavier than the G. I think it is also a little bigger.” 12:25:49 PM 4/30/04 “the Z is heavier and more durable than the G, but it's still very light. The only complaint I have about the Z at all is that it could use a little more padding in the hipbelt. Other than that IMO it is the perfect overnighter/weekender pack.” 12:35:22 PM 4/30/04 “I'm using the Z-pack to start getting my pack weight down. I am currently at about 18lbs with food for a three day weekend. I just didn't quite feel comfortable with a lighter suspension than the Gregory.” 1:02:12 PM 4/30/04 “I almost bought the Z a couple weeks ago, it's a great looking pack in many respects but I opted for the Granite Gear Vapor Trail for a couple reasons. One was the reviews I'd read about the hipbelt padding vs. many other lite or ultralite packs. Now that I have it I have to say I'm glad I chose this over the Z. The Z was my # 2 pack after LOTS of looking around!” 1:59:58 PM 4/30/04 “I just got a Z a couple weeks ago, too, although I won't be able to use it for a few weeks at least. I wanted a lighter pack, but one that could handle loads nearing 40 pounds. My typical pack weight for a weekend trip sharing some gear is around 30 or less, but I often take my son, so carry his sleeping bag, the whole tent, etc. So my total weight for a weekend would be too much for a truly ultralight pack. I carried about 30 pounds around REI for 20 minutes or so while I shopped before I bought it, and it felt great. Can't wait to field test it....” 3:10:21 PM 4/30/04 “I will probably look into buying this pack around Christmas time. Post your reviews! Let me know if it is worth the money.” 3:13:04 PM 4/30/04 “Bowlderman, I hope everything fits in it for you. the one thing that i do not like about it is that it has no lash points for a pad or a tent. Everything has to go inside.” 3:14:41 PM 4/30/04 “Well, I've often lashed things to compression straps - it looks like there are enough of those to work OK....” 4:02:42 PM 4/30/04 “any new opinions on the z? I think i've decided on it but want to check and see if there's anybody who's used it over an extended amount of time. thanks for the help.” 1:15:02 PM 3/21/05 “I just got one, i haven't gone on a trip with it yet just around the block but i love it.” 2:13:35 PM 3/21/05 “My daughter has one. She's only used it on a dayhike and on one 21 mile/2 night trip. The thing I noticed while hiking behind her was that it has a lot of straps hanging down. If mountain lions and wildcats are anything like housecats you are going to look like a playtoy :)” 2:48:36 PM 3/21/05 “hahah. thanks hyway. i had planned on chopping those down to size.” 2:51:03 PM 3/21/05 “I got one and have used it on 3-day 28 miles. I absolutely loved it no complaints here. A little discussion from another thread: http://www.thebackpacker.com/trailtalk/thread/35591,-1,2.php Happy hunting” 8:09:07 AM 3/22/05 “I'm going on a winter trip with BowlderSon next week (2 nights). Haven't decided if I'll use the Z or my older larger pack just yet. I won't have to strap skis onto the pack, so I may be able to use the Z - will report later....” 8:16:41 AM 3/22/05 “I've had my z-pack for about a year now and love it. The only thing I would wish for is a place to strap a pad outside. The new 2005 G-pack looks promising, alittle smaller and lighter.” 12:07:31 PM 3/22/05 “Hey LtHiker, I just use a couple of small bungees to strap on a pad. But you're right - it wouldn't seem to add a ton of weight to have a couple of built-in straps or something. Photo of me 'n' my Z-pack with a Z-rest pad strapped on the back: http://community.webshots.com/photo/172739350/172740467DWjaVR” 12:21:25 PM 3/22/05 “i found a Z for $125.00 that i'm thinking about buying, but it looks like it may have been a return, the tags are missing...anyone know the cubic inches on this?...whould this be big enough for a 4 day 3 nighter?” 7:21:03 AM 3/28/07 “Weight S 3 lb.
