“Atomic bomb labs could be parks
The Senate Energy Committee has backed a study that could lead to tourists visiting the once-secret Manhattan Project facilities.

WASHINGTON - The laboratories where Manhattan Project scientists once worked in secret to design and make the atomic bomb could someday be national parks tramped by curious tourists.

The Senate Energy Committee on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill by Sen. Jeff Bingaman, a Silver City Democrat, to authorize a study of adding the older, unused sections of the national laboratories at Los Alamos, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Hanford, Wash., to the national park system.

Parks with a healthy glow”
