How little maps weigh
Topo of 17 mile round trip and larger, general area only weigh 14 grams. And they have such wonderful anticipation value as well. Great excuse to take a break, take your shoes and socks off and just try and figure out where the h'll you are. Great enjoyment for the weight, don't you think?

I certainly do like to carry the topo maps, and on longer trips I carry the paper USGS versions, although I can print off the National Geographic TOPO ones also.

I also like to get a book on the area, but what I just discovered is that I have duplicates of at least a couple books. So if anyone wants Falcon's "Hiking the Grand Staircase and Escalate," let me know.
