A booger is the excessive mucous secreted in times of immunological defense. Your mucous membranes are on the front lines, they snare microbes in a gooey web. This stuff comes from the lungs and the pathways to/from the lungs. Eating it would destroy the microbes, much like swallowing your own phlegm. Healthy? Yes. It prevents the spread of infectious agents.
