Please get back to me. If nothing else, jut so say Hi. I don't get nearly the amount of emails as I use to from my old job. It is kind of wierd. A few months ago, I spent my first hour of my day, just responding to emails. Now, nothing. I go and get another cup of coffee.” 9:25:20 PM 6/14/04 “Bigpoppa - I tried to send you an email, but I'm not sure if it went through, let me know if you haven't recieved it.” 9:37:53 AM 6/15/04 “According to Mapquest it's 2 122 miles and 33 hours from here. I am developping a 'drive there with the old tent trailer' fantasy.' I'll keep you posted. I got the e-mail - thanks. Doug” 9:59:16 AM 6/15/04 “Looks like my email went through the second time I tried to send it, should be in your inbox Bigpoppa.” 10:16:11 AM 6/15/04 “Gremlin, I can relate. We're driving there from northern CA via WA state at a very slow pace. We'll see lots of country. It mostly depends on available time.” 12:29:19 PM 6/15/04 “BigPoppa, we didn't get an e-mail.” 11:12:53 PM 6/15/04 The Canuck fire dance is coming.... “I'm thinking about taking three days each way - not too long, not too difficult. Oh yes... BOOMboomBOOMboomBOOMboom... I'M GETTING HOOOOOOOORNEEEEEE!!!!” 9:10:35 AM 6/16/04 “I just sent you anothe email wannabp. I had your wrong email address. Sorry. I recieved two schedules. Bison and trekngirl. Anyone else? What are we going to do about transportation?” 7:20:44 PM 6/16/04 “Well if there are two other people who want to drive back to Salt Lake City after we hike out on Friday, It looks like a Jeep Liberty can be had for 460 plus figure 70 for gas. That would be 177 apiece. If anyones interested let me know.” 10:53:48 PM 6/16/04 “I am in. I can worry about how I am getting back SLC later. Put my name on it. Do you want me to send you a check or can I pay you when I see you.” 9:11:48 PM 6/17/04 “Bigpoppa, as soon as we get one more person I'll put it together, let's say you'll send a check for the share of the rental, and we'll figure out gas money on the trip. Worst case scenario is you go back to Salt Lake Saturday and get a room there and cab to the airport. What time are you getting in to SLC?” 9:17:39 PM 6/17/04 “11:25 on American Airlines.” 9:16:32 AM 6/18/04 “One more just confirmed. This is going to be a good group. Stovestomper, what is your email address?” 9:19:38 AM 6/18/04 “Evening alone in the moutains. No one to talk to. No one speaking out. No reply to my thoughts. Only the comfort of murmuring breeze in the trees, the goodnight chirp of the snowbird fading with the night. the glistening of the moon on a distant glacier, the faint music of waterfalls scurrying down from them, seeking green valleys in which to pause momentatrily before racing on to join waters from other glaciers, from other contienets, from other celestial wiedernesses, seeking eternal rest within the briny seas. Then darkenss hovers about me. Only the sound of growing grasses, of blossoming flowers, of conutless stars like a million jewels set in a sea of sereness beckoning me into peacefull slumber, a dream of fulfillment, of content in a wilderness. Only God can give this to man. Finis Mitchell” 9:29:29 AM 6/18/04 “stovestomperatyahoo.com Change the 'at' to @. Spammers I'll be traveling with om's group. She will take care of our transportation to and from the trailhead so don't include me in y'alls van plans.” 10:07:25 AM 6/18/04 “I have questions: What kind of temps should we expect? How low will it go at night? Gotta figure which bag to take. Will water be available at each day's camp? Are we camping above treeline? That will make me decide between a bear can or hanging.” 10:22:29 AM 6/18/04 “Stove - I've always taken a 20 degree bag to the winds and that's been fine. There should be water at each nights camp, no problems there, plenty of water in the Winds. Peak lake is above treeline, I'm not bringing a bear can though, I'll find a ledge to hang my food. The bears are there in the Winds, but I've never seen one or had any food problems.” 10:26:58 AM 6/18/04 “I read that the Pinedale Ranger Office had Bear Cans to rent. Anyone know about this? I'm looking at maybe buying a Bearikade, but at $240 it sure would be nice to rent one for the trip.” 1:29:12 PM 6/18/04 “big poppa i was reading that very same thing in his book last night.....:) s'gonna be a fine trip.....a big woods for the peaceful isolation with creation” 1:55:00 PM 6/18/04 “We have a Garcia bear cannister we can loan someone. We will be driving from the TH to SLC returning home. If anyone needs a ride back to SLC, but not to Pinedale from SLC, we will have room.” 8:49:22 PM 6/18/04 “I might be taking you up on your offer of going back to SLC. Most of the nights we will be at around 10,000 feet. I would expect the nights to be more chilly then cool. Storms can come up unexpectly, so you must be prepared for all kinds of weather. My advice: Don't worry about weight and pack warm gear, wet gear and comfortable gear. The first three days are about 6 miles each. Even with a heavy pack that is not a lot. You should be acclimated and in shape after three days going up hill.” 11:27:02 PM 6/18/04 Trailgrl? “Anybody know Trailgrl? She is on the list for this trip, but has not posted a single thing.” 3:28:15 PM 6/19/04 “Initial plan: Myself and Bison will meet Om and Group @ group site. We will then drive OM's and our vehicle. to Trails End Campground with Wannabp following. Wannabp will then drive us back to New Fork Group. This way, for people like Bison, he can scoot out early and others have the option of staying a little longer. We can decide what everyone is going to do in the end later. I just send out an email. Please respond.” 10:31:26 AM 6/22/04 “First day: As you climb into New Fork Canyon, you can see crystalline rock overlying yonger sedimentary strata. a legacy of the thrust-faulting that formed the Wind Rivers. Near the canyon's major bend the trail crosses teh river twice. The fainthearted can avoid these tricky crossings by clambering through boulders on the north bank. Beyond the bend is New Fork Park, near teh upper end of which the Palmer Lake Trail crosses teh reiver and enters Palmer Canyon, while the New Fork Trail begins climbing in earnest. From New Fory Canyon's head the Porcupine Trail continues north... Climbing and Hiking Wind River Joe Kelsey We will camp a mile or so before Porcupine Trail.” 10:59:36 AM 6/22/04 “Bigpoppa - I think our group will get to the trailhead late and will catch up with y'all that first night on the trail. Don't make any plans for us without om's input. I think we are staying in a motel Thur and Fri nights. om is in charge of planning for the SouthEastern bunch of us and I'm just another Bozo on the Bus so you need to ask her for the correct info, ha ha. Can't wait!” 11:06:11 AM 6/22/04 “Sounds like a great plan. Bigpoppa you have mail, disregard what I wrote about the first night in New Fork Park - about a mile before the porcupine trail is pretty much what I was thinking - I had misread your post.” 11:25:55 AM 6/22/04 “And for everyone else, I have been to the Winds (although south of where we're going)so feel free to ask any questions.” 11:26:56 AM 6/22/04 so feel free to ask any questions? “Bison - will you carry my pack for me?” 11:36:24 AM 6/22/04 “Well Stove my base weight for this trip will probably be 55lbs or so, so I'm afraid carrying your pack would be a little much.” 12:26:48 PM 6/22/04 “Dang!” 1:27:04 PM 6/22/04 “I just ordered the Kelsey book from Latta Outdoors. Is anyone else struggling with the Earthwalk Press map? Bison, 55 lbs? Ouch!” 6:02:48 PM 6/22/04 “I think the map is OK. I am using two books plus that map and all three of them of different information on them. It is hard to use all three together and come up with a good plan.” 6:58:45 PM 6/22/04 “That 55lbs includes my camera equipment, we're not going but a few miles each day, so might as well bring the whole house along and do it up right. I have the USGS quads that cover most of the route and several books and the Earthwalk press maps. I don't think I've seen or read any conflicting info.” 7:43:35 PM 6/22/04 “OM!! You like cowboys, right, gal? Do a search for my West Woman threads and eventually you'll find photos a *gasp* cowboys!!! LOL” 10:28:10 PM 6/22/04 “We're sending a lot of e-mails to people no longer on the trip when we hit the reply button. Could someone more tech-savvy than me fix that? It feels funny detailing out shuttles and fuel with people who most likely could care less. We are becoming duplicative or maybe even triplicative...... on the fuel stuff and getting a camp site at the TH. Interesting.” 11:26:52 AM 6/24/04 “Erase the addresses of people who you don't want to reply to in the "Send" or "To" line.” 11:30:14 AM 6/24/04 “Ah, even I can do that.” 9:25:14 PM 6/24/04 “That is too hard. Hmm. that had to originate from me and I thought I just went through that group list and edited out the unconfirmed people. I will check again. We are just making them jealous by letting them see how much fun we are having.” 9:21:01 AM 6/25/04 “Yeah, but I feel bad. I know Shawn would love to be in the Winds and has to work. I ordered the Kelsey book and Latta Outdoors says it's shipped. Almost time to nail the route in my mind. I bought the WY Topo software when this trip planning started. With the book and the map and the software, I can produce some elevation profiles for us.” 10:20:54 AM 6/25/04 “My leave has finially been approved by my boss! Woo Hoo! Now to find the best airline deal!” 11:45:40 AM 6/25/04 “Leave? Boss? You mean you people work in August? Bummer!” 2:38:30 PM 6/25/04 “a french chef on this trip awesome bo coo” 8:52:36 AM 6/26/04 “My Kelsey book arrived. Om, be careful. My French class in high school went out to a French restaurant and what I remember most is the snails! Gremllin, you aren't planning to collect snails and share, are you?” 11:49:15 AM 6/27/04 “ahh....snails.....my hiking style~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ i have never eaten one tho... maybe gremlin will prepare snail crepes...:)” 11:57:46 AM 6/27/04 “Gremlin........ Did you know snails make you horny? like you need'em” 1:49:56 PM 6/27/04 “Are snails that attractive to you sirpete. I never see many three page spreads with a snail on it, but whatever rocks your boat. Every culture is a little different. I hear in the east, small feet on woman is seductive to men.” 7:16:42 PM 6/27/04 “snails are alright but I've always been a little partial to the clam :)” 7:37:36 PM 6/27/04 “Hey, can someone tell me what the map co-ordinates are where we're hiking? I could also use some info on ordering maps from USGS. Thanks, Doug” 10:57:16 AM 6/28/04 “Gremlin - most of the route is on "Squaretop Mountain," "Gannett Peak," and "Bridger Lakes" quads.” 11:20:58 AM 6/28/04 Jump to Page << prev
