See that peak there through the trees? That is a mountain of pain and suffering. Getting to the top of that thing today took everything I had. The heat, steepness, intermittent trail, steepness, bugs, steepness, bugs, steepness, bugs, and HEAT. That mountain sits on the other side of Devil's canyon, and for good reason. It needs to stay there.

Man, that mountain was hard. And I set out to do three peaks today. Just made this one. Pfffft!

Here are a few more from the ascent.

More to come later. I'll post a journal entry after I recover.

Man, that mountain was hard.

Twin Peaks is 7,761 feet above sea level. It was a 9-mile trip with about 3400' of gain.

Here's the journal entry: Twin Peaks

Twin Lakes

Looks like the Alta Peak trip might be a go! Are you going on the So Cal trip Memorial Day Weekend? Jennie Lakes Wilderness/ Mount Sillman?

Ah yes, Twin Lakes. Got stuck there once during a fierce thunderstorm. Harrowing.

I'm going to miss out on the SoCal trip. Heading to Yosemite the week before Memorial Day Weekend with the offspring.

Last time I was up near Silliman Crest, it was the third week of May and there was a lot of snow on Mt Silliman.

It's nice to see Alta is do-able so early, but it's worrisome that it might be a dryer season this year. Fire risk and all...

Do you (or anyone) know what kind of plant this is?

It gives off a pleasing scent as you hike by it. Enough to make you stop and sniff around a bit. 8)

Gemini, Roam Around-

It's great that you came by and signed my guestbook. 8) Your entries are keepers.

When you should ever want to hike in these parts, I've got plenty of ideas. The Sierra Nevada and Sierra Madre leave a lasting impression and it's always great to share these mountains.
