What did you do for Mother's day?View MessagesThis is what I did.. “I drove up to Boone NC on Sat. night and spent the day with Evergreen hiking the base trail of Grandfather mtn. called the Tawahna trail. The trail actually covers 13 miles but we picked 8 miles of it, parking cars at Both ends of the 8miles. It was a cool adventure with altitudes from 3800 to 1400 back and forth. I really enjoyed the changes in the environment at each turn. We got to the 4.5 mark by 12 and lightening and thunder threaten us but we kept on going and got to the car by 2:30.. I am working on the album. I hope to post it tonite. When I got home my daughter was there with gifts and she even took me out to dinner. Not a bad day at all..hiking and free food.” 8:07:27 AM 5/10/04 “well, I decided on hiking too. Hiked the congaree swamp area. Rox you would've like it. Weather was great. Oh, and I got a Spa certificate from my husband, massage, facial and all. I checked and double checked, and yes, it's my husband that gave me my present...” 8:11:26 AM 5/10/04 “That's a cool gift Gemini, I know it was awesome I have only had one massage in my life and I felt like I was in heaven. Glad your trip went well, I didn't know about the mosiqutos since I had that scare last fall with west nile...” 8:14:03 AM 5/10/04 “We toured our (soon to be) new house and then I treated my wife & kids to a nice lunch at the local "greasy spoon".” 8:17:33 AM 5/10/04 “Nice move there techntrek! New house... cool~~” 8:19:23 AM 5/10/04 “I drove 450 miles up to northern Ontarion to get $hitfaced with my daughter on Saturday evening, then drove back yesterday. Her team won first prize in Laurentian University's film festival and we celebrated big time. I'm a little fuzzy this morning. Bell rang, gotta go.” 8:19:47 AM 5/10/04 “Bell rang, gotta go." gremlin That was the phone, Grem!” 8:21:13 AM 5/10/04 “We were up in Vermont for MD. Maple, Mama Tree, myself and the kids got treated to an incredible brinch buffet in Woodstock, Vermont yesterday. Got Maple tix for George Thorogood at BB King's Grill in Times Square for June 30 as a gift. She's a happy mommy!” 8:23:05 AM 5/10/04 “My wife wanted to do a Century (hundred mile bike) ride with some people. So I said, "Knock yourself out!" and stayed home and watched our daughter.” 8:24:17 AM 5/10/04 “I drove 400 miles with my two young sons and met Jerbear at Red River Gorge for the weekend where we explored and hiked and had some fun adventures.” 8:25:37 AM 5/10/04 “rox, thanks. We close on the 27th, but we wanted to meet the sellers before that and since my wife is so excited about the place it was a nice way to spend part of Mother's Day.” 8:27:01 AM 5/10/04 “I cooked 15 lbs of brisket, and we had the entire family over for food and games out under the trees in the back yard.” 8:27:18 AM 5/10/04 “Took the kidlets to watch the alewives run. There's a fish ladder that's really cool not too far away. The fish weren't on the ladder, but were schooled under the bridge, waiting for the tide to change I guess. The place was mobbed with seagulls and osprey, and it was a riot to watch the osprey dive, come up with a fish, then fly off, only to be chased by seagulls and have the fish stolen from them. We were rootin' for the osprey, but I think they lost every time!” 8:28:49 AM 5/10/04 “"I drove 450 miles up to northern Ontarion to get $hitfaced with my daughter on Saturday evening, then drove back yesterday. Bell rang, gotta go." gremlin LOL...now that's what I call a great mother's day event. I just did the 2 beer limit since my daughter was paying but it was all good.” 8:32:27 AM 5/10/04 “Planted perennials in my garden, enjoyed my back yard with a cup of coffee and my dog, saw the musical OKLAHOMA with my 15 year old daughter. Prayed for my son in Iraq. Had a phone call which made it ok. It was a beautiful Mother's day.” 8:32:59 AM 5/10/04 “Techntrek I agree no better way to spend mother's day looking at your new home. Course if you can sqeeze in a hike and a few other extra things..that's good too! Vicsaw I want to get to Red river gorge..next trip for sure. Did you guys have great weather?” 8:34:58 AM 5/10/04 “I didn't get the ex to be anything, not sure what the kids got her. I went mountain bike riding.” 8:35:10 AM 5/10/04 “Spent Fri-Sun with my Mama. I let her cook for me and spoil me rotten. ;-) I course I 'spoiled' her with flowers and other gifts. I am so thankful I still have a mama.” 8:41:26 AM 5/10/04 “Check the "Big Wiener" thread. That's where reino and I were. Despite the "tongue in cheek" trip title, my beautiful wife had a great MD weekend in the wilds of NW Wisconsin on a river.” 9:03:39 AM 5/10/04 “Rox, the weather was so perfect. Couldn't have custom-ordered better. Maybe it got to low-80s during the day and down to 60 at night. The sun was shining, sky was blue, not even a hint of rain or wind. The owls and wipperwills serenaded us at night. I think I'll do a trip report later today.” 9:09:06 AM 5/10/04 “Very cool, I look forward to your trip report.. any photos? Pekka I am on my way to check out your trail report.” 9:16:31 AM 5/10/04 “I simply called my mom from here in Iraq. I know she appreciates a call more than anything.” 10:32:18 AM 5/10/04 “Spent part of the day on Saturday with my mommy. I had already given her a gift and card because I wasn't sure I'd see her this weekend. My dad took us out to dinner. Then we headed over to my cousin's place for some desert and a lovely evening sitting by the lake.” 10:43:37 AM 5/10/04 “Sunday morning, went to brunch in Chattanooga, TN with the outlaws. Called my mother and wished her a happy mother's day. Got to meet more outlaws because my brother in-law recently married, so I have a new sister in-law. Spent the next 8 hours traveling home to NH.” 10:44:20 AM 5/10/04 “Maybe I have this wrong, correct me if I am... A brother-in-law is the husband of your sister. Said brother-in-law recently "married", which I can only interpret as "remarried", which would no long make him your brother-in-law?? And his new wife wouldn't be your sister-in-law?? Or is this just Monday fog I can't see through? :-)” 11:06:46 AM 5/10/04 “could be the brother-in-law is a single brother of the wife.” 11:07:47 AM 5/10/04 “But if it's an outlaw would that be an ex inlaw?? I am with you..confused. Steppenwolf we are keeping our fingers crossed for all of you over in Iran.” 11:10:33 AM 5/10/04 “smiley girl has it right.” 11:11:53 AM 5/10/04 “my outlaws are all current in-laws...” 11:14:21 AM 5/10/04 “I granted my wife's request to make my famous lasagne for dinner. Man, was it ever gooooooood - probably my best ever! Other than that, just tried to be extra-accommodating, etc.” 11:14:43 AM 5/10/04 “Ahhhh that is clearer Skiracer..thanks Oh yeah and the next hike your coming along??? to cook that is” 11:17:38 AM 5/10/04 “i didn't get to see my mommy, i just called her and sent her a gift certificate to a book/music store. we went to Tarpy's parents house, and made pizza, grilled shrimp & veggies, and peach cobbler. it was soooo good, i'm like the best cook ever. LOL! it's hard to get used to family gatherings on that side of the "family," though...if it were my family, it would be a drunken, rowdy hoe-down. it's a little more quiet w/Tarpy's fam. those damn monkeys didn't get me anything!” 11:20:06 AM 5/10/04 “Steppenwolf, Just wanted to say thanks for your service. I am very much in awe and gratitude for what you and all the other people in the military willingly do for us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! I was going to start a new post, but figured it would be buried by the time you check the board again.” 11:59:46 AM 5/10/04 “I woke up to my little one yelling "happy Mother's Day!" and flagging a card around. Opened it up to find she had drawn and colored balloons all over the inside and even wrote "MOM". =) Went out for lunch with Birch and his mom and the three year old (who couldn't wait to get out of the resaurant and squirmed and whined the entire time, lol). Went home and tucked Birch and afore mentioned cranky child in for a nap, hung my hammock up in the back yard, filled a nalgene, grabbed my new book and relaxed. I found I couldn't keep my eyes open (probably the wonderful wild mushroom linguine, calamari and cheesecake with raspberry sauce) and so I napped too. Birch couldn't find me when he got up so he scared the crap out of me yelling my name out the backdoor. I popped outta the hammock like a jack in the box. So much for relaxation! Then we zipped off to my mom's where Birch and Dad prepared dinner for all of us. Gave my mom a really cool Jansport Daypack and a bunch of hiking goodies to go with it. She loved it. Can't wait to go on a dayhike with her!” 12:10:00 PM 5/10/04 “I woke up to my little one yelling "happy Mother's Day!" and flagging a card around. How is a bachelor suppossed to keep track of this crap! Wait a minute - I think my Mom forgot my B-Day in March. Do I have the upper hand?” 12:23:20 PM 5/10/04 “With your Mom? Never.” 12:23:47 PM 5/10/04 “Tell her flowers.com messed up and get some ordered asap! ;)” 12:24:19 PM 5/10/04 “How about if I call her in a few weeks and ask her if she liked the flowers I never sent her? You know, act all surprised that they never arrived. Would that work?” 12:29:51 PM 5/10/04 “Don't wait a few weeks. Don't let her be heartbroken that her son didn't even call on Mother's Day. How can you miss Mother's Day with all the advertising? uhmmm....bearmagnet.... Father's Day is June 20th this year.” 12:43:24 PM 5/10/04 “OK! OK! I'll get on it, sheesh! LOL! I avoid ads. One year I honestly missed the DST switch. Was completely confused when I got to work that Monday!” 12:46:03 PM 5/10/04 “Let’s see… I helped my 2 and 6-year-old daughters prepare cards. The 6-year-old has an artistic streak and made about a dozen altogether. My 15 year old made a beautiful card all on her own. My card made my wife cry (score!). We took the whole gang to the Hyatt for brunch – my mom, wife and two sisters (both moms) and everyone else. I ate so much I didn’t even want dinner. I got the little ones bathed, read to and tucked in before my wife even noticed. A pretty nice day indeed.” 1:18:39 PM 5/10/04 “I took my wife and kids to a new restaurant in Brentwood for a Mother's Day lunch after church. They got her a Spa gift certificate with a manicure and pedicure. She gets her cast off her foot today so she will need it.” 1:52:45 PM 5/10/04 “Bearmagnet make it up to your mom...you only have one!” 3:21:52 PM 5/10/04 “rox1 - she only has one offspring that doesn't ask her for outrageous favors/money! :) I'll make it up to her - everyone relax! LOL!” 3:40:32 PM 5/10/04 “Among other "boring" items (Nora Jones CD, Nields CD, FOunding Mothers by Cokie Roberts, and The Best Recipes by Cook Illustrated) I (my kids) got their mother a field guide to animals of vernal pool, topo maps of our town and county, a CD from Cornell of Frog and Toad mating calls (eg spring peepers, gray treefrongs, wood frogs etc), a laminated trail card on "bugs and Slugs", and laminated trail maps of our state forest . . all from the DEP store here in Hartford. We took the Vernal pool guide on a walk intothe state forest and had fun identifying egg masses (e.g frog or salamander), looking for crayfish, identifying snails, spring flowers etc etc. The boys Mom loves poking under rocks and in pools of water for stuff . .so the gifts really scored. Then I grilled really bad t-bone steaks for the family and her mother. The super market was advertising "thin Cut" t-bones. . .. it was all they had . . . ..how are you supposed to grill a tbone that is less than 1/2 inch thick . . . .it sucked” 4:10:46 PM 5/10/04 “lee, that thin, and I'd just show 'em the grill...” 4:12:35 PM 5/10/04
