I'm about outa here....

“Instead of our usual 10 day wilderness trip, we are going to do a road trip into the High Rock area of NV tomorrow. We will do a couple overnighters into a couple canyons, but most of the trip is exploring...way cool!! I'm bringing my GPS to do a little Geocaching as well. I am soooo looking forward to not having to hump big loads.

We get back on the 20th, then I get to leave the next day to do a survival class for CARDA for 3 days.

WinterSolstice...actually there usually is an opening (not where I work though)...the burn out rate for Wilderness Guides, working with kids, is about 18/24 months. I'm going on 5+ years.”

1 - Totally jealous of your trip. Nevada rules. I've been meaning to get to the High Rock area for years. We are heading to the Desatoyas (central NV) for a few days over Memeorial Day.
2 - Do you woek with CARDA regularly? What are your impressions of them? I have been tantalized by the prospect for the last year or so. Responsible, knowledgeable group?

“FF...I have spent the last couple years working with CARDA...like most organizations, they have had there ups and downs over the last 10/15 years or so. I really like where they are heading right now. They have implemented new guidelines and training so they will be much more self sufficient in the field. The training that these folks do for their animals and themselves is impressive. Susan puts in close to 20 hours a month just working her dog...thats not counting the other classes she has taken, like man tracking, survival and winter skills. I have an awful lot of respect for these people and their animals
