“NS, I thought that if we helped with some of the weight then you would be able to make it in without the shuttle. I agree with the ruling that everyone participating must hike in, it is a backpacking cooking contest afterall. If you were in a wheelchair then you probably wouldn't be backpacking anywhere...but you carry a pack and hike just like everyone else and if your disability limits your distance, etc...well, I trust the ruling council may come up with a compromise.

TD, did I say something wrong? I was just trying to give NS a hand and see if a few others would chip in and give the brother a hand so he could make it in without the shuttle, but I'm not against someone like him taking the shuttle...of course the contest is your thing and you guys make the rules and decisions...I hope my input (which can be completely ignored if you want) isn't out of line.

“The biggest problem with this event is that, historically, it had no "rules".

There needs to be some sort of standard set as to the competition. But as with most rules, too many rules is as bad as no rules.

The fact of the matter is that there is no "one" person in charge of this. Reality is that several people get together to pull it off.

Smokygirl has busted her behind on this thing. Probably the best thing that could happen is for the Town of Cumberland Gap to "adopt" this event.”

“i had fun during TC2 and TC3. Don't care what ya'll saying. I never entered the cookoff itself though. I came for the fun and to meet great people.

I understand that some of you wasn't happy with...whatever... but it's a pretty new event and those things take time. can't expect it to be perfect from the beginning.”

“I appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in organizing this event. Such a task isn't easy, just take a look at the criticism in this thread, then add in what a whole town, a national park, and doners have to say.

I had a blast last year and if it was done the exact same way I'd come. But as I see it Chili, HPM, TD, and Smokeygirl and trying to improve the contest and make it better and I think they're doing a great job.

I agree I had a good time at TC2 but face the facts there was a lot of crap that went on at the cooking contest. If you weren't at TC2 then you don't know.

I know HPM, Chili, Opie and a few others know what really happened but they won't talk about it. Tell the truth and it is cool.

“Very simply put there were several things that happened at TC2 and it degenerated into a hang out and drink kinda thing and it was not what was invisioned by the organizers. Some things happened that not everyone was aware of also.

BUT, all in all I think I can honestly say that everyone attended had a good time.

Ever since then those who have put aside time to organize subsequent TC events have worked to overcome past problems. If we haven't done that please let one of us know and we will do what we can to take care of it. As far as I am aware the issues of TC2 have been put to bed long ago. Am I wrong?

So in closing various members of the planning committee have listened to various complaints that come from various sources and as far as we are aware we have worked towards solving them.

How about all of us letting go of this nasty tone and bickering among friends and giving TC4 a swing and let us know if we have improved over the performance of TC2?”
