He knew the danger in Saudi Arabia. He ignored the State Dept's warning to leave. He was going around completely unarmed and defenseless. Basically the guy was asking for it!” 3:34:49 PM 6/18/04 “Big Bubba say, "bend over, you ma puppy now!"” 3:35:07 PM 6/18/04 “"hey Abdul, meet your new boyfriend, Bubba."” 3:35:26 PM 6/18/04 “But what about those 30 Virginia Class Attack Submarines we've got on order?” 3:35:38 PM 6/18/04 “I go around unarmed and defenseless these days. I hope the sorry mother#&%!$ers don't come along and try to cut my head off.” 3:35:45 PM 6/18/04 “Tree, that's scary...” 3:36:31 PM 6/18/04 “They would be dead within a day if put in the general prison population.” 3:37:00 PM 6/18/04 “Habib, the Brushy Mountain State Penitentary Love puppy. I bet that would get their attention.” 3:37:08 PM 6/18/04 “So we cant negotiate. How about Saudi Arabia killing the prisoners (ALL) the kidnapping decapatators wanted freed. Now there is a deterrant!!!!” 3:38:08 PM 6/18/04 “Bubba: Ok, Habib! It's time to bow to Mecca! Habib: Again, Sahib? That's six times today!” 3:38:33 PM 6/18/04 “No lumberzac, you would just have to give a few days credit for each time an inmate banged the terrorist. The inmates could make a game out it. The "see how quick you can flatten your sentence by humping a terrorist" game.” 3:39:08 PM 6/18/04 “What and let them have their 70 virgins? That's too good for them!” 3:39:40 PM 6/18/04 “So back to the original problem; our First Cowboy will stomp his boots, denounce the act and come out with some more tough talk. In the mean time the sneaky bastids will grab another poor schmoe and do the same thing again. Cowboys aren't good at hard thinkin'.” 3:54:19 PM 6/18/04 “Yeah, aero, that's about it. One action we have taken in the past that I really admired. The plan to take out Khadafi. You talk about a guy who suddenly shut up and sit down.” 4:05:56 PM 6/18/04 “"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." -Ghandi Hunt them down and bring them to justice? Yes. Become the same subhuman filth as them? No.” 4:19:40 PM 6/18/04 “Hmmmm. Am I missing something? As I recall, Reagan thought Khaddafi was responsible for the bombing of an Italian club frequented by US soldiers. We bombed Khaddafi, then it turned out that he didn't have any connection to the club bombing. After that, Pan Am 007 exploded over Lockerbie.” 4:22:30 PM 6/18/04 “Yeah, you are right, nigal. We should stay civilized. Give them three squares a day and a warm cot. Hell, it probably wouldn't hurt to open the library for them to study up on America as well. For god's sake, we wouldn't want to treat these guys any different than crack dealers, would we? This isn't crime folks,,,,it is nuts and bolts warfare.” 4:24:00 PM 6/18/04 “Must have missed the part of my post that said we should hunt them down and bring them to justice chili. I wasn't meaning rehabilitation justice. I was talking full metal jacket behind the ear justice.” 4:31:10 PM 6/18/04 “At that close range, a jacketed hollow point will work a little better.” 4:32:35 PM 6/18/04 “That's a civilian round. Are you suggesting that we civies start snatching arabs? Michigan is chalked full of them. That'd be a good place to start. (joking)” 4:44:37 PM 6/18/04 “ALL YOUR VIRGINS ARE BELONG TO US.” 4:48:36 PM 6/18/04 “What a nightmare, an absolute nightmare.” 5:01:43 PM 6/18/04 His Poor Family “Saudi Arabia insists that if there's any security needed for US workers that THEY be the ones to do the job. In other words...we are not allowed to provide our own security personnel in that country. It's true, I heard that the other night on the news and it astounded me. The news article also pointed out how unsafe and untrustworthy some Saudi personnel are and that no US person is truely safe in Saudi hands.” 5:10:42 PM 6/18/04 “A friend of mine worked there in the late 70s and he always talked about how dangerous it was THEN.” 5:14:58 PM 6/18/04 “It is just unbelievable. It's true they have a different frame of mind and culture. And they play by THEIR rules of war, which, as said, astonishes us. What do do? I dunno. I like the eating pork idea. Perhaps that is as totally reprehensible to them as beheading is to us. And help our farmers out at the same time.” 11:41:25 PM 6/18/04 “That's funny lizs. I read Clancey's Teeth of the Tiger (or something) where this Islamofasist was shot and he was dieing at a shopping mall. One of the anti-terrorists guys runs and gets a football from a story and shoves it in the guy's hands and says, "Have fun in hell." as the guy dies. Funny as hell but the book as a whole kinda sucked. "Let's blame the victim. He knew the danger in Saudi Arabia. He ignored the State Dept's warning to leave. He was going around completely unarmed and defenseless. Basically the guy was asking for it!"” 6:47:11 AM 6/19/04 “"Let's blame the victim. He knew the danger in Saudi Arabia. He ignored the State Dept's warning to leave. He was going around completely unarmed and defenseless. Basically the guy was asking for it!" I normally hate shifting of blame away from terrorists but I do have to say, that the guy does share some of it. I wouldn't have chosen your exact words but I do agree with you. I wonder if any court suits will be forthcoming from the family?” 6:49:03 AM 6/19/04 “"Are you suggesting that we civies start snatching arabs? Michigan is chalked full of them. That'd be a good place to start. (joking)...." To be real honest, I'm very happy with the fact that there has not been any attacks against our local Arab community up over here in D-Town. Condidering this situation, I think that alone speaks volumes of the people of America. Good point about dood being in a place where he shouldn't. I think it's a 50/50 blame, honestly. You betcha they'll be a wrongful death lawsuit. A settlement, at the very least. Let's take a look at it, like this: These people over there have always used our own stuff against us, it cause terrorism. Could this be the next level in the "war"? Point = I've noticed that since Nick Berg, but not so much right after Pearl, the word "beheading" has alomst become the norm. Now, that word alone to anyone, any culture is a very powerful word. Seeing as though Al-Queda *might* be limited in it's physical capaity to create a massive body count on their side, they stay "small" and used our media against us, by bringing the horror of the "action" right into our homes. I think of it as a packaged, marketed style attack, delivered to me in my home by Al-Queda. AQ is out to spread a belief, way of life, order of power, or otherwise - has something on it's mind - Why not use modern day "sales tactics" to succeed?” 7:21:07 AM 6/19/04 “The use of beheadings is as old as warfare. The Hamas and PLO boys have been cutting up inocent folks on camera for the longest time. Ever see the vid of the two Israeli soldiers being stoned and ripped apart by a mob? Very disturbing. It's because it's our people being cut up that has brought it so much to the forefront. And of course our own media's motto of "If it bleeds, it leads" mantality.” 8:05:21 AM 6/19/04 “Talk about standing reality on its head. I agree with Nigal that we can’t sink to their level. (Quoting Gandhi? – whoa Nelly!) Chili – see Tilt’s post for the true sequence of events in Libya. Our missile killed Khadafi’s little girl. Who would have thought that violence begets violence? I spent the day yesterday working near Johnson’s home town. Folks down there took the news kinda hard.” 8:39:07 AM 6/19/04 No "Eye For An Eye" Anymore, Eh? “Can we still in the middle of the night throw stones through their windows and run?” 9:16:57 AM 6/19/04 “Yes, V... I'm not *positive*, but I think that's how it went (long-term memory becoming hazy --). Next generation Al Qaida types certainly get lots of press with limited resources. I think Laqtis' observation about limited numbers of victims is correct. Terrorist cells are usually small and they're always searching for the greatest reaction for the smallest investment. What could be more simple than a big knife and a webcam? Especially when it causes more furor in the States than a car packed full of explosives? What's the deal with Powell downplaying the situation in Saudi while his people at State are telling everyone to get the hell out? That's more than a little strange. Have to keep the Saudi royals happy, I suppose(?)” 9:45:49 AM 6/19/04 “Oh, I whole heartly agree that parting ones head from it's body is very old hat. "The Hamas and PLO boys have been cutting up inocent folks on camera for the longest time. Ever see the vid of the two Israeli soldiers being stoned and ripped apart by a mob? Very disturbing....." is that the one where the two young Israeli solders fell from a second story window, into the waiting hands of a very armed Arab mob? If not, I think I still could get a visual of how life *goes*, over there. Makes that trip to the pub look like a cake walk! Yep, I think that it could be very possible for AQ to be using the power of our own media against us, whether or not the media is *liberial*. All they have to do is post on one website and the rest of the world will carry it; fully aware that "if it bleeds, it leads"....” 10:19:23 AM 6/19/04 “Oh yeah, that kind of shlt swings both ways in the media. It ain't a liberal thing. The only difference is the liberal media may try to blame it all on Bush; ala see tilt's post.” 7:01:16 AM 6/20/04 “Yes, we can't hold Bush responsible for anything involving Iraq, just because he started a war based on... What, exactly? Oh, I forgot... the Responsibility Thing only applies to people on welfare.” 9:12:23 AM 6/20/04 “War sucks. Terrorists suck. Bush sucks. Kerry sucks.... Damn.” 11:33:18 PM 6/20/04 “US probes trainee soldier beating The US Army has opened an investigation into injuries suffered by a serviceman who was beaten up during A training exercise. Sean Baker says he received injuries from fellow soldiers while posing as a detainee at the Guantanamo Bay camp for al-Qaeda and Taleban suspects. He blames officers for the botched exercise, and says he suffers seizures as a result. The army had previously said Mr Baker's injuries occurred in the line of duty. Mr Baker, 37, was a member of a military police unit based in Kentucky when it deployed to Guantanamo Bay in 2003. In January of that year he volunteered to act as an unco-operative detainee for training purposes and put on an orange prison jumpsuit. He argues that other participants were not made aware that he was a soldier. During the exercise, Mr Baker says, military police choked him and slammed his head against the floor. Mr Baker says he told them he was a US soldier but the beatings continued until the jumpsuit was yanked down, revealing his uniform. Mr Baker - who has complained of traumatic brain injury - was subsequently honourably discharged. The army initially said the discharge was unrelated to the exercise, but later acknowledged the injuries sustained at the time had been a factor. Mr Baker told the Los Angeles Times: "What happened to me is something that should never have happened to any American soldier." In a letter to the army, Congressman Ben Chandler of Kentucky urged the military to turn over Mr Baker's medical records and said his claims were "deeply troubling".” 2:14:34 PM 6/21/04 “What? This is new V? Haven't you ever seen GI Jane? LOL!” 3:50:48 PM 6/21/04 “"Yes, we can't hold Bush responsible for anything involving Iraq, just because he started a war based on... What, exactly? Oh, I forgot... the Responsibility Thing only applies to people on welfare." Tilt 09:12:23 AM 06/20/04 ROTFLMFAO!” 4:21:39 PM 6/21/04 “Should you ever blame the victim of a crime?” 5:06:25 PM 6/21/04 “"What happened to me is something that should never have happened to any American soldier." Only american soldiers though. We don't care about the rest. Srew 'em!” 6:55:00 PM 6/21/04 “New evidence that the physical abuse of detainees in Iraq and at Guantanamo Bay was authorised at the top of the Bush administration will emerge in Washington this week, adding further to pressure on the White House. The Telegraph understands that four confidential Red Cross documents implicating senior Pentagon civilians in the Abu Ghraib scandal have been passed to an American television network, which is preparing to make them public shortly. According to lawyers familiar with the Red Cross reports, they will contradict previous testimony by senior Pentagon officials who have claimed that the abuse in the Abu Ghraib prison was an isolated incident. "There are some extremely damaging documents around, which link senior figures to the abuses," said Scott Horton, the former chairman of the New York Bar Association, who has been advising Pentagon lawyers unhappy at the administration's approach. "The biggest bombs in this case have yet to be dropped." A string of leaked government memos over the past few days has revealed that President George W Bush was advised by Justice Department officials and the White House lawyer, Alberto Gonzalez, that Geneva Conventions on torture did not apply to "unlawful combatants", captured during the war on terror. Members of Congress are now demanding access to all White House memos on interrogation techniques, a request so far refused by the United States attorney-general, John Ashcroft. As the growing scandal threatens to undermine President Bush's re-election campaign, senior aides have acknowledged for the first time that the abuse of detainees can no longer be presented as the isolated acts of a handful of soldiers at the Abu Ghraib. "It's now clear to everyone that there was a debate in the administration about how far interrogators could go," said a legal adviser to the Pentagon. "And the answer they came up with was 'pretty far'. Now that it's in the open, the administration is having to change that answer somewhat." <snip> www.telegraph.co.uk” 10:05:13 AM 9/13/04 “Lots of luck getting anything from the Shrub/Dick administration. They can out Valerie Plame Wilson, but they can't ante up for anything else. Selecto-Leak!” 10:52:42 AM 9/13/04 “W. House Expects Probe of Iraq, Guantanamo Abuses WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House said on Tuesday it expected a full investigation of prisoner abuses in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, after new FBI memos described detainees facing beatings and having lit cigarettes placed in their ears. "If there is abuse that occurs, we expect it to be investigated fully and people to be held accountable, and measures taken to make sure that it doesn't happen again," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. He said the Defense Department was investigating "a number of allegations that have been made," and added: "We expect them to get to the bottom of it." The White House was responding to newly released FBI e-mails that reported some military interrogators, posing as FBI agents to avoid being held accountable, used torture techniques. One told of an interrogation at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay in which a detainee was wrapped in an Israeli flag and bombarded with loud music and strobe lights. The e-mails also described detainees at Guantanamo being shackled hand and foot in a fetal position on the floor. They were kept in that position for 18 to 24 hours at a time and most had urinated or defecated on themselves. On one occasion, an FBI agent reported having seen a detainee left in an unventilated, non-air conditioned room at temperatures probably well over 100 degrees. "The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his own hair out throughout the night," the agent noted. The memos covered a two-year period that ended in August, well after a scandal erupted in April about abuses at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison. Photographs from Abu Ghraib, showing U.S. soldiers taunting and humiliating naked prisoners, sparked worldwide condemnation. <snip>” 4:09:50 PM 12/22/04 “FBI E-Mail Refers to Presidential Order Authorizing Inhumane Interrogation Techniques NEW YORK -- A document released for the first time today by the American Civil Liberties Union suggests that President Bush issued an Executive Order authorizing the use of inhumane interrogation methods against detainees in Iraq. <snip> "These documents raise grave questions about where the blame for widespread detainee abuse ultimately rests," said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. "Top government officials can no longer hide from public scrutiny by pointing the finger at a few low-ranking soldiers." <snip> Read the documents: http://www.aclu.org/torturefoia/released/fbi.html” 4:13:33 PM 12/22/04 “Violin is pleased each time a head is cut off by the Freedom Fighters, or any time Americans die.” 4:50:13 PM 12/22/04 “I don't think anyone is happy to see American troops die, it sucks. It is an unfortunate side-effect of war. People die. I don't think we can justify the treating of Iraqis solders the way we are though. We know that abuse has already happened. Has it happened in the cases described above, I don't know. We will have to wait and see. If these things are happening, it makes me sick to my stomach! We now control what happens in Iraq, do we need to torture these poor souls too?” 5:03:00 PM 12/22/04 11:55:56 AM 4/01/05 “They should have. That's great they were told that. I hope they did.” 11:56:55 AM 4/01/05 Jump to Page << prev
