Mutt - My favorite two cars of all time were:

#1 of all time - '82 VW Jetta, bought with 92,000 miles and driven into the Earth. If it were not for that 450.00 water pump (they would have to take off the timing plate to get to it), I would be driving that phucker right now. Sporty and real fun to drive, it's the benchmark that I have compared all my other cars to. Back then, 450.00 would burried me, so it had to go.

#2 '88 Honda Accord. What a great car that one was. I was driving through an intersection one time when a drunk old lady came through the intersection and I hit her. It was never the same after that and we traded it in for a '96 Saturn SW2.

Funny, we got rid of that Saturn because we felt it wasn't big enough for our family; thus the induction of the BAV. What a mistake THAT was.....

I love VWs too. I used to have a MKIV jetta vr6 - great car except it was an unreliable piece of human excrement. And to think of the money I wasted on modding that car - *sigh*

Can we make it May 20th instead? My loan application for a new tank of gas should be approved on the 19th.

Maybe just majorly METROSEXUAL....not that there's anything wrong with that...:0

all funnin' aside, I really wanted one of those Honda Hybreds. Too pricey, but I would et if they dropped the price, a chit load of peeps would buy them.

Not to mention they are ugly as sin too. Don’t they have Civics out now in hybrid? That other one is just too “45 year old crusin’ for dates at the Star Trek convention” for me.

Maybe yer thinking of the Prius, but the Civic looks just the others. There is no difference on the outside. I was quite impressed with that. The truck is a little smaller than the regular one, and of couse it has enough room in the engine compartment that you could smuggle a small Mexican family over the boarder!

I don't know for sure because I haven't really looked into it, but don't you get a pretty hefty tax credit for buying a hybrid?

It's looking better and better for filling up on the 19th. With everyone else staying home I won't have to wait in line. Of course the ever present bassturd scratching his instant lottos at the counter will be there still.

Anything that shows large scale support/outrage will get their attention. If you can produce a BLOCK of voters will get what they want as long as they vote as a unit.

It surprises me that the democratic president lies about a blowjob & gets impeached. A republican president has lied to us repeatedly, made his oil company friends rich (& richer everyday) kills our friends & children, bankrupted our treasury, trashed our constitution & belittles us in the eyes of the world......and what? Disapointment?

I believe you are correct; however, it really doesn't help out when yer trying to scrape up those duckets to put down. I did notice that the Hybred was about 3,000 + more than a regular car; maybe that cancels it out?

No doubt, laqtis. It might help make the justification a little easier to swallow though. A tax credit is much better than a tax deduction.

The lean fuel deduction is $2,000. The Civic is a nice little car but dang, it only has 86 horse power. I couldn't see a 16' canoe on top either. 670 mile per tank full is atractive though.

Don't mean to rain on everyone's parade, but:

Hybrid cars get 20-25% less mileage than they're advertised to

This is mostly because of the way the EPA tests the vehicles.
bitpusher
12:51:45 PM

nigal - It only has that amount because the gas engine is only used to get the car going froma stop. The performance is there, just like any other Civic. The power plant is more electronic, than gas.

Natural gas vehicles sort of came and went. They only get limited mileage (200 miles a tank?), so usually the vehicle was dual fuel, so you could use gasoline. That adds $2000-$3000 to the vehicle, and one quarter or more of your trunk space is taken by the natural gas tank. And you need extreme caution at a filling station. Detroit had one several years ago for a short period, 2 or 3 years. I believe the Red Wings Zamboni was the last customer. Maybe its different in California, where there is more regulation.

I also agree free markets means free choice. Right here in Michigan I've owned a half dozen VW's over twenty years, but once a family member got a job at a Ford dealership, I now own two Fords. Rebates + employee discounts = substantial savings.

This is too funny. I filled up, od should I say tried to fill up my truck on Friday. The pump stopped at $50. I ask my friend who owns the gas station why this happened. He told me that the oil company puts that limit on them. I ask him what do you think is going to happen when the RV's come to town this summer. He say that they'll just have to start over, yeah two or three times over.

And by the way, the oil companies don't dictate the price of oil, the market dictates the price for oil.

It's great, we got $35/bbl last month. Can you say big bonus in December?

"Well, shouldn't we all blame ourselves for creating the demand for these gas hogs? They wouldn't produce the things, if we didn't buy them!"

Yes, I think of this often. However, I live on the West Coast where their idea of good spending of transportation money is to build special on/off ramps for the buses so they don't have to leave the carpool lane. No light rail, no subway, no nothin'. I can't afford to live in King County (Seattle) so I can live near my work. Besides, how would I get up to the mountains?
How would we all get to our favorite trails?

Actually it's not bad. It's one of the nice things about living in a free country. The bad thing is that the government feels the need to tax us so heavily, and spend like there's no tomorrow (present White House included), instead of levying more tariffs on imports like other countries do to our exports.

Their purpose is to maximize revenue to increase shareholder value.

They just do it better than some others.

Well good luck to the protestors on wednesday. I wont be buying gas either, not as a political statement (which will have as much effect on oil prices as TT debates do on policy, which is say SQUAT!) but because I put $20 into my tank yesterday and wont need gas for quite a looong time. My fuel economy is okay 18 city 24 highway, my suv is old its a 1993 with 116k,runs like a raped ape though. I wont need fuel cause I am not driving anywhere. I ride a bike. I live 3 miles from work and do for a reason, its convenient.

I would bet dollars to donuts that most of those boycotting on the 19th have a longer commute. You have chosen more then likely to live in nice neat suburbs or rural areas outside of a major metroplex (like most upwardly mobile middleclass Americans) nd now are all in a wad cause you have to pay to drive. Big fat waaaaa! Gas prices are what they are cause we need gas, its supply and demand. We,each and everyone of us created this prob, not exxon. Exxon doesnt make people buy gas hogs or take road trips or commute umpteen miles to and from work. We make those choices. If you dont like it, move closer to work (heck, intercity real estate is cheap and cities are starved for talent and money so its a win win) of course we couldnt live in our comfy suburbs and wring our hands about those poor people and how the gub'ment is just so unfair with these gas prices. We are such frickin victims. Get over yourselves! Everybody wants to change the world, but nobody wants to help mom do the dishes!
