So, gojo, why are you in Idaho so much? Visiting relatives? Sounds like you should move here.

Idaho Bob, man! What a list! Especially impressive is Rainier solo, and the Ptarmigan traverse three times! It would probably take me the rest of my life to just hit all of your Washington peaks.

As far as Annapurna, I've got another "route" (x-country) into the Enchantments, so haven't actually done either route you mention!

The Mt. Stuart climb was the basic dog route up Cascadian couloir. Coming up Stuart glacier must be out of this world.

Rainier was solo just to Camp Muir, then I hooked up with another lone climber. That was about 2 days after I moved to Washington. That ascent I pulled off by being young, dumb, in shape, and lucky. I spent that summer hiking around the state, then got a job in the Fall. The next spring, I quit my job, and went hiking and climbing for 3 months, and did the same the next summer. I saw more of the Cascades in those 3 summers than most people do in a lifetime.

The Ptarmigan Traverse is a kick. A lot of people have bad luck with weather or injuries on the PT, because its pretty intense and packs are invariably heavy, but I always had good luck with both, knock on wood. Most people don't know what it is, but its got to be one of the premier mountaineering routes in the US. It is so scenic you can't believe it, but if you've been to Cascade Pass, its just more of the same from there. you can to the whole route and not step on a trail, or even on dirt. Its either rock or snow, some seasons.

I need to get with it. I look like a total whimp when it comes to peak bagging compared to you westerners. Although, I'd like to see you guys climb Mitchell or LeConte in July in 90% humidity.

I forgot about Clingmans Dome in Tennessee, and Cadillac Dome in Maine's Acadia NP. Both drive ups and not particularly memorable.

Clingmans Dome can be a good hike if hiked from the base to summit. There are some scenic views along the Forney Ridge trail and you get to cross Gregory Bald. Inever have been to ME, hope to get up there this summer to climb Khatadhin.

USA, you're the Olympics expert! I've only seen them from High Divide. They look beautiful.

You climbed Dome peak via Cub Lake? We climbed Dome on the way out of the Ptarmigan, via Cub lake. I don't know why they call it Dome Peak, because it has a pretty exposed knife edge to get to the peak, and its not very wide. We did the first nude handstand on Dome Peak (that we know of). We had met two guys doing the Ptarmigan traverse, a snow and glacier route through the mountains, who were doing the PT nude. We saw them everyday, and there were two women with our party, and they only wore boots and packs. So we did a nude handstand on Dome Peak in their honor.

You're right, the Pickets are a saga. Thats a range so remote you can't see them until you've hiked for 3 days.

Sarbar1, looks like from the 'packer.com thread you are all over Washington. You must live in Seattle or thereabouts.

EarthNsky: my list is 35 years worth of hiking and climbing. If you keep doing what you are doing, you'll see plenty of country.

Snow Nymph: I'm totally envious of all your Sierra trips, and your great photos. My dream is to hike the JMT again with my family when the kids are old enough a do it. Maybe I'll be able to meet up with some Sierra based TTers on that trip. The JMT is so awesome, I've never seen anything its equal for a 230 mile hike.

I live in South King County so I have easy access to I-90(Alpine Lakes Wilderness), Hwy 410 and all of Rainier. It's also only about a 2-3 hour drive to anywhere in the Olympics and Norh Cascades. I can be in downtown Seattle in 20 minutes also. I totally admit that I live to hike :-D

So Sarbar1, are you involved in the Mountaineers, Sierra Club or something You seem to like organizing group trips, which those groups do a lot of. Ever hiked in the Enchantments or Stuart Range? Thats one of my favorite areas in WA.

I will be in the Stuart Range next weekend :-D Can't wait!
I am doing the Wonderland this summer in mid-August in 8 days, 7 nights.
I haven't ever been in a group like the Mtners due to the fact I couldn't bring my son along (and for the most part, if he doesn't go, I can't go-no babysitting). Yeah, I am the trip planner for our group, The PNWH-I just have a lot of free time on my hands (stay at home) and I like to plan trips anyways. Heck I started the PNWH so I could get hiking partners :-p

I don't know why it's called Dome either, as it does have a very airy knife edge summit, somewhat similar to the summit of Eldorado. Yes, I bushwhacked up (and returned down) the Bachelor Creek trail to camp on an arm of Spire above Cub Lake. You have to pretty confident or crazy to do a handstand on the summit of Dome. LOL What was Spire like?

Sarbar1, I moved to Federal Way a year ago after living the previous 15 years in Seattle. Can't wait until I can get back to Seattle.

Spire Point was very interesting. Four of us went up there, and it was easy 5th class climbing, as I recall. However, the summit was only big enough for one person. It was basically a flake of rock that you put both hands on, pulled your face over the edge, looked around, and said "OK, this is the top" and then backed down the way you came up. There was no place to sit, and the flake was so sharp you couldn't even straddle it. What a view, though. That was at the end of a Ptarmigan Traverse trip, on which we had climbed a lot of the peaks along the way.

So Sarbar1, where are you going in the Stuarts? Do you need a permit to go in there?
Idaho Bob

Hopefully this weekend we will be up there. The area where we are headed only needs the "fill-in" permit at the TH. The Enchantments will be next summer - when I can hope and pray to get a permit (and pay thru the nose! For 3 people at 3 days, it's almost $30 now!!)

Also there is a list of the number of people who have accomplished this.

private Property issues when visiting the high point in Delaware.

Delaware - The Delaware Geological Society has ruled the highpoint is in the trailer park to the west of the sign at Ebright and Azimuth. This area across a field is designated "Private Property" No arrangements are currently in place to legally visit this spot. The acceptable visit is to the sign at Ebright and Ramblewood

The Enchantments are great, SB1. The best way to go in is via Colchuck lake, but USA has a secret cross country route, which must be either via the Rat lakes (an appealing name) or from the drainage south of Mt. Stuart. I'd take Colchuck Lk and Asgard Pass any day.

I've gone up there in late fall, and at that time the permits are not required, and the larch are turning a great orange color. Of course, its very cold. One time we went in there by skiing across Colchuck lk, which was frozen.

USA, the Snow Lakes trail is a loooooong one. I did it once, then found out about the ASgard Pass way, and went via Asgard from then on. You had a pretty energetic day, with Annapurna, Dragontail, and Enchantment all in one day.

So Roeymonster, what are you doing in South America, and whats this 20,000' peak going to be like?

Top Dawg, lets see your list!

Thanks, Wing. I aim to please!

Just bummin' around for a year with the wifey:)

We're almost done but I think I'm ready to head back to the states. At least for now. Gotta vote, ya know!

I think Potosi is a pretty straight forward glacier climb. I'll be taking a guide since my skills on this sort of climb are lacking. Prolly take a week long mountaineering course and follow it up with an ascent attempt of Potosi. The weather is really stable right now, so that's a good thing. And damn, the cost of living in Bolivia is cheap so I can afford to get some instruction.

I must say Bob, your resume is pretty impressive...
