Here is a thread for TTers to brag about what peaks they bagged and how they bagged them.

Take THAT, Dunadan.

if that's the rule then there are no peaks east of Colorado!

Change the thread title to "summit bagging" then.

you know, I don't think the Southern Sixer guys let you count Clingmans if you drove up to that parking area.

I think they require something like a five mile hike or something like that, could be wrong, i just sorta remember reading that somewhere.

nope, I'm not really counting that one. I drove up to the parking lot, hiked the main trail to the summit and then hiked down around the adjacent trails including the AT for a little bit, but not enough to really count. I'd like to do the forney ridge trail one of these days. get as close as I can to the bottom and hike up to the top.

That'd be a ballbuster for sure. I did Clingmans by starting at Newfound Gap, that last 1/2 mile is one of the toughest i've done. Didn't help that it was Jan and the trail (gully would be a better description) was full of ice. Needed crampons.

You lucky dog, Sarbar. What did you think of Cascade Pass? Thats got to be one of the most impressive places on earth. Mt. Johannesburg is so damn huge from there. Sahale is a pretty reasonable hike from there, ever get up there?

My list will have two added to it this year, Mt. Borah (12,000) and Shasta (14,100) if things go as planned.

My crown jewel would be my first:
Iron Creek Point - 11,000' plus
Lemhi Range, Idaho.
July, 1996

It was my first Western hike. I was awe struck from the get-go. The hike was great great great.

On day three, I decided to try the peak that was looming above our camp. Dude says "go for it".

I packed the 10 essentials and struck out. I topped the saddle, and selected the route of choice with my binoculars.

I had to negotiate a snow chute on the way up. Mid-way across it, I looked down. Whoa! The seemingly tiny rocks below the chute were the size of a Buick. I had netiher crampons nor ice ax - just a stick. I continued (seein's how I'm a helluva man! lol!)
I had never heard the term "post holeing", but did the manuever by instinct.

I crossed scree, too. Then scrambled up solid rock.

Upon reaching the summit, I encountered a lone male mountain goat. He moved like a white shadow. Awesome.

I sat atop the peak and perused ranges and valleys as far as 200 miles away.

The Lost River Range, White Cloud Peaks, Salmon River Range, The Bitterroots. Pesimeroi Valley, Snake River Plain. Big Butte, Middle Butte.

And waaaaaaaaay off there? No... not the Tetons?

I sat til almost dusk.

That moment will never be superceded.

Not by Rainier.
Not by Everest...

The Mighty Mighty Tacoma has bagged several passes in excess of 10,000 ft, including an 11'er in CO.

Cascade Pass
One of the most De-licous passes I have crossed-and with a nifty solar toilet tucked in the woods to boot. Sahale is a great hike in teh late summer. Even with the icky road and mega long drive (it's in the middle of nowhere!!) the place is overcrowded. The parking lot alone can handle like 50 or more cars! But worth it, oh yes!
Of all of them, I think my favorite was Mt. Winchester, it sits between Mt. baker and the Canadian Border. It has one of the few fire lookouts left, and you can stay in it. The open air privy on the backside is a dream. 360* views :-D

I'm envious, Lumberzac and EarthNsky. I'd love to see Kleetn's list sometime, and see what I recognize. My list has a lot of Sierra Peaks, a lot of Washington Pk, and a few Idaho pks, but I've had 30+ years to accumulate it. I'm lucky to get in 5 to 7 backpacks a year now, and maybe a peak or two, and thats with 2 kids who are now old enough to backpack.

Well once I climbed like five mountains in the Rocky Mountains with this Girl-Guide chick and all I was wearing was a pair of jeans and a grey cotton tee-shirt. We found a cabin in the woods and found a Power Bar to eat, first thing I ate in like a week. But the radio in the cabin was all busted because the bad guys were chasing us in a helicopter.

Gojo, I've never even heard of Iron Creek Point, but you make it sound pretty interesting. I had a similar experience my 3rd time on Rainier, as the sun rose of a sea of clouds that hung at about 8000 feet, and we were about at the 12,000 foot level, a few thousand feet short of the summit. First Little Tahoma was sillouetted in the pink of dawn, then the clouds below us turned pink, and then they were a golden color, and we could see Mt. Stuart and the Stuart Range off in the distance, and Mt Adams and St Helens to the east. And from the top, we could see Hood and the 3 Sisters in Oregon. That was awesome, and I got a photo of the golden colored sea of clouds. Another photo of the glacier and crevasses from that morning on Rainier are on Phils photo page,

Kleetn, I see some familiar places on your list. Little Annapurna means you've been to the Upper Enchantment Basin, which is one of the nicest places I've ever seen. I hope you went up via Colchuck lake, because via Snow Lakes is way harder.

Which way did you go up Stuart?

Mt. Maude, Baker, Aix, and most of your other ones, I've never done. Good luck on Rainier. Last time I tried it, I was just not in good enough shape, and we turned back at about 13,000' from altitude sickness.

My list is pretty thin if you looked at recent years, just a few trips per year, but its been ramping up the past few years as my kids get old enough to backpack. I try to get in a big peak each spring, just as an incentive to get in shape.

OK, here goes, with a list I assembled from memory recently. It may not be formatted to look very good:

So Cal Desert Peaks

Sheep Pk, my first backpack, with Wally Henry and a group of HS kids. I was a jr in HS.
Martinez Pk, peak climbed on Sheep trip
Mt. Baden Powell, San Gabriel Mtns, many winter ascents,
Mt. San Antonio (Baldy), San Gabriels, a 20 mile day
Mt. San Gorgonio (11499), a high desert Pk, climbed in snow with Wally and Y's Hikers
Throop, many ascents, mostly winter, once with a blind person
Burnham, many ascents, mostly winter

Sierra Peaks

Olancha, (12123) an emblem peak and my first Sierra peak, I got altitude sickness on the way up, but made it to the top
Langley, 14,042, boy this was a beautiful hike to a nice lake below the peak. I did the climb with Wally and the Y's Hikers, and again with Mike and Wendy

Collosseum, 12473 SW slope, scree all the way

University Pk, 13632 via south face, class 1
Mount Keith 13977, a Sierra Club outing
Matterhorn 12264 up from the glacier, class 3-4, new route with Wally Henry (we got lost from the correct route) lightning struck the peak while we were on the top.

Darwin, 13830, attempt with Mike, got into real steep climbing
Agassiz, 13891, west slope
North Palisade, 14243, via Clyde variation, which is the only way to go on this peak, whether from the N or S. If from the N, drop down from the U notch to the start of the route, class 3, but with tricky route finding, and exposure, with Mike from the JMT
Middle Palisade, 14040, via the east face, class 3, with Wally Henry, this was pretty exposed
Thunderbolt Peak, 14000
Polomonium, 14000, class 4 from U notch, very exposed and scary.
Mount Bolton Brown, 13538
Prater, 13329
Dissappointment Pk
Sill, 14162, from the U notch
Pk 13390, SE of Sill, 0.2 miles, which we called Sucker Pk, because we climbed it thinking it was Sill

Half Dome

Yosemite climbs

After 6 (5.6), my first experience with nuts and chocks, and I repeated this climb many times
After 7 (5.7) a little bit harder, also repeated many times
Churchbowl Chimney (5.6) man, that was scary to have a chimney 5 feet wide, straight up
Royal Arches (5.6, grade III), with Joe Schletz, we got to cross a very hard part by crawling across a log, which is since gone. Very exposed.
La Escuela (AI), an aid pitch at the foot of El Cap, very exposed and scary
