BTW
I saw a flyer about Radnor Lake last night. It mentioned that there were funds needed to keep out a developer from moving in the area. $150k is needed by June 9th to stop this intrusion. For more info contact the park.

Yeah I saw that too karo. I saw the sign at the trailhead and it said now 93k (I think?) is needed. They don't have long to raise it but hopefully it will happen, it is such a pretty area.

Since nobody wants to join me to volunteer I guess I'll do it alone. I've been looking for something to do and I think this will be worthwhile.

Vijia (I know I'm spelling that wrong) in cool springs also has kayak classes. Randy and I are probably going to join.

This letter is from their website if anyone is interested in donating money.

May 10, 2004

Dear Friend of Radnor Lake,

We are writing with exciting and urgent news. The Friends of Radnor Lake have signed a contract to purchase 6 undeveloped lots in the Radnor Glen Subdivision. These lots are adjacent to the ridge of the South Cove Trail, and in fact, come within 10 feet of the trail. Imagine hiking at Radnor and seeing someone’s back deck or listening to the roar of leaf blowers or mowers. The Friends group is dedicated to our mission of protecting and preserving the integrity of Radnor Lake, and we are excited about the purchase of this land.

Urgency lies in the time remaining to raise the balance of funds needed to complete the purchase. We have 30 days to raise $150,000. Thanks to the many supporters who have purchased Radnor Lake License Plates and made donations to the Friends group, we already have $25,000 toward that goal.

Radnor Lake is important to each of us, to our community and the wildlife that inhabit the area. It is our charge to protect Radnor for both the present and the future, and we need your help now. Please consider donating money to the Radnor Glen Acquisition Fund today. There are several ways to do so. You can stop by the Visitor Center and put your donation in the Radnor Glen lockbox, or you can mail a donation to Friends of Radnor Lake at P.O. Box 40324, Nashville, TN 37204.

We’ll be marking our progress on a sign at the Visitor Center and look forward to the celebration of the purchase and preservation of this threatened land to enhance the Radnor Lake Natural Area.

Thank you,

Ann Tidwell

I had an awesome dayhike today. I didn't volunteer but I hiked the lake trail and the ridge trail. I had a close encounter with a Barred Owl and a heard of deer! Pics to follow. I'm uploading them now.

dayhike pictures

I tried getting a good picture of the deer and her two fawn that were nursing right on the trail, but the picture didn't turn out so well.

cool pics... did you two see any wildlife other than the centipede?

i'm still awed by the # of deer that i saw! the owl was neat too, but a little scary. he was staring me right in the eyes like he wanted me for dinner! randy and i always talk about that we never see any wildlife on trips. it was just the opposite out there!
