And it hurt!
Yesterday...Relaxing on a saterday afternoon I stepped out my frount door to see two smallish dogs on our lawn. I didnt even have time to say shoo, go away when one of them starting barking at me which spurred the other one to attack....A few nasty bites latter I manage to escape them into the house slamming the door in their face. I looked down to see blood pouring down my left leg from just above my knee. Mike went out to get rid of the little beast and got bit too, on his finger (Just supreficial) before its owner came out to rescue her "precious dogs who would never bite anyone". What gets me is she has a fenced in yard, both back and front and she still had her dogs running loose in the neighboorhood. You can bet we filed a police report! We had witnesses too who know I did nothing to provoke the dogs attack. Went to the hospital for my bites which they cleaned up well (didnt want to give me stitches cause puncher wounds from dogs are prone to infection) and bandaged it up real well.My leg had swollen up bad, yuck! They gave both of us tetnis shots and me antibotics. We wernt the only victems of dog attacks there in the ER there were 3 others too, all little children 2-3 years old if you canbelieve it. Why cant people take more responsibility about their animals?

I have 3 dogs of my own and work in the veterinary medicine field. I would never own a dog I couldn't trust. While they are dogs and ALL animals can be unpredictable, I see way to many great, deserving pets that are homeless to keep that type of animal around...Hope you feel better soon

Our insurance will...Bleh. If we see that dog again, its dead.

I have a dog myself and she is well trained...she wont even go outside without anyone with her and she refuses to leave the fenced in yard even if you call her except on a leesh. Would never leave her out unattened. Thats a liability right there. You never know how an animal will react to diffrent people or situations.

It's the owners fault, most likely. It's too bad that the animal will be put down if the owner gets sued.

Sorry to hear about the bites, Free.

usually nothing is done to the dog unless there are at least 3 reports on file. Don't ever hesitate to file a report. The owner might have gotten a ticket...big deal. I'd make her squirm. Make sure those dogs are up to date on their shots and that the owner has a license for them.

also, anytime anyone is treated in the emergency room for an animal bite, the hospital staff is legally responsible for contacting law enforcement. Make sure they do.

Sometimes it seems that little dogs are the worst - maybe owners don't think they need to be disciplined because they are so small. My cousin got attacked and bit from behind by a tiny dog, while we were taking a short hike.

Have you noticed if you now have uncontrolable urges to bark at the moon since the attack?

Well, the Weasel has gone manic and is running all around attacking my ankles.

A couple of sprays of Bitter Apple on the ankles is quite refreshing.... I don't think it'll help much with those Rat Dogs, though.

You might want to keep a golf club buy the door. I'm thinking 5-iron.

I hear y'all Free. Nothing quite pi$$es me off more than a neighbor's dog attacking you in your own yard.
Several years ago I had the same thing happen to me.
'Freddy' tryed to take a chunk of my leg while I was standing in my own driveway. I was about to brain the little basturd when his owner rushed over screaming 'He won't bite!'.
For real, sue the owners.

File a report and send them the bill. If they get obnoxious about it...threaten to call a lawyer. That usually settles the problem. I would hate to see untrained animals put down because of the owners irresponsibility.

We filed, the law is on our side definatly. the bill will be hers for sure. Most of the punctures are looking better except for the biggest one which still bleeds every time I move around (It's right above the knee and boy does it hurt) I am hopeing it is better by the time the weekend comes around. I sure need to go backpacking!

Actually this is not true. Most dog bites are from dogs who would never hurt a flea. Dog owners are in denial.

cameron was bitten by the neighbors dackel dog... (in TN) The hospital called law enforcement. They put that poor dog to sleep. Not sure if that was the law or if our neighbor back then just needed an excuse to get rid of the dog. (that's what I suspected back then)

I heard most companies will pay once, but they put the dog down as part of the deal. Not sure if that is the case. My homeowners insurance has an exclusionary clause, won't pay for bites by a rotweiller or pit bull.

Spelling doesn't have to be "mandatory" for numerous misspelling to be funny. I believe Free25 took the comments in the spirit of friendly repartee that they were meant. I especially liked "puncher wounds". Made me think of Mike Tyson biting the ear off of Holyfield. Now that's a "puncher wound"! LOL

yuppers. Sometimes I fake spell but other times I am just to busy typing (and too lazy to check what I mistyped) so my spelling seems creative.

Police and Animal Control Services are looking for a dangerous dog that seriously injured a man.

The man remained in critical condition Monday night at the University of New Mexico Hospital, Detective Jeff Arbogast, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman, said.

"The dog is a brown, pit bull-boxer mix, is what it looks like," Arbogast said. "The guy was found missing his genitals. We don't know who he is or where he lives."

Neighbors saw the man playing with the dog earlier in the day near Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School, 6401 Iliff Road N.W., Arbogast said.

About 1:20 p.m. Monday, police were called to the scene when workers from a mowing service found the man unconscious, naked and bleeding on a yard near the school, he said.

"The lawn crew hit the dog with a pipe, causing it to yelp and run away," Arbogast said. "When police arrived, the man woke up and started running away from the officers. They had to take him into custody so he could get treatment."

Arbogast added he had no idea why the man was naked or why the dog bit him, but added, "I think there's a little more to this whole thing than we know."
