Anybody want to join me?” 7:51:12 AM 5/24/04 “West Virginia anytime, WHY??” 8:14:18 AM 5/24/04 “This will be Memorial Day weekend. You can take Monday, too.” 8:27:01 AM 5/24/04 “I've got stuff to do on Monday, so just three days for me.” 8:39:47 AM 5/24/04 “You could go to Dolly Sods and pretty much wander around for three days, taking any trail you want.” 8:51:39 AM 5/24/04 “Hey, Bison, I really want to join you. But I may need to work on Friday until 5pm. Could you tell me your plan? Will it be a easy hike as the one we did on marshall mt?” 6:25:15 PM 5/24/04 “WannaZ - I haven't really decided on a route yet, so I don't know how hard it will be. I'm taking Friday off work so I'm definitely starting on Friday.” 6:31:12 PM 5/24/04 “Oh...you plan to start on early friday morning?...ummmm, I wish I can join you because this time will be my first time joining a group without anybody's help.” 7:10:48 PM 5/24/04 I'll Be Gettin' Loopy In WV This Weekend “I'm planning on doing a loop in the Cranberry Wilderness. Unfortunately, I'll be getting to the area late Fri night and heading back on Monday. My plan is to start at Three Forks of Williams River. Hike up Little Fork Tr to the Red Black Tr. Head east on the RBTr all the way to Little Levels. Up to Big Beechy Tr. then west to the Middle Fork Tr. then back. I know most of the hike is on ridges and not near water, but I've been eyeing up this loop since my last visit 1.5 years ago. The portions of the RB and BB trails that I was on was such a sureal landscape that I've wanted to do both trails since. When I get there I'll most likely camp at the base of Little Fork Tr on the west side and upstream of the confluence of Middle Fork run. The second camp will be near the upper reaches of McClintock Run on the north side and near the eastern end of the Red Black Tr. Sunday night's camp will be where Big Beechy Tr connects with Middle Fork Tr. If you do go, plan to get your shoes wet as some portions of streams are unpassable without wading through them. And look for a Golden Retriever at one of these places.” 8:20:12 PM 5/24/04 “I'll definitely look into that Buddur, if you don't mind company.” 8:34:55 PM 5/24/04 “Alright here's what I think I'm gonna do. Seneca Creek trail to High Meadows trail, and back on the Lumberjack trail. Camp Friday night at the intersection of Seneca Creek and Judy Springs, Saturday Night alonng High Meadows. I'll probably be at the trailhead sometime between 10 AM and 2PM. Anyone want to join me? Any opinions of this route?” 8:19:32 AM 5/25/04 “It seems very interesting to me. Unfortunately, I don't think I can join you this time. So, my plan will be back to bay area and see my parents. Is there anyone who wants to have a day hike back to Northern California this weekend?” 9:12:46 AM 5/25/04 i LOVE this place !! “I like it so much.... that I am purchasing a small home nestled in a hillside a block from the Cherry River Bridge in Richwood. It is an older 3 br, 2ba, 2 story home originally homesteaded by a young coal miner back in 1952 when Richwood was in its hayday. Original hardwood floors, pressed tin ceilings in most of the house. Complete with a safe working fireplace and two front porches overlooking the river. (if you look close thru the trees) lol. I have been putting about 2,000 miles a month back and forth from Central Florida to West (By God) Virginia the past 6 months or so. This little house was repoed by the bank last year and now the bank headquarters has ordered all of its branches to get rid of ALL properties ASAP and start the new year off with no properties in their inventory. I am purchasing this house with a 1/4 acre lot and separate outbuilding (600 sf) for $14,000.00 this coming Tuesday morning. Now........ for my plans..... I will live in it off and on.... still commute back and forth with less hassle to Gods Country for some awesome camping, fishing and backpacking and to spend more quality time with my girlfriend. Then.... maybe by fall,,, have this little campers hideaway listed on the internet for about $300.00 a week.... completely furnished with all the amenaties for cooking, camping, hiking, backpacking, photo safaris, etc. It is just minutes from the Cranberry Backcountry and the Cranberry River. 45 minutes from the New River Gorge (yeah, that big-ass bridge those NUTS parachute and bungee jump off of) and that awesome white water rafting you hear so much about. Plus, rock climbing right there, too. What ya'll thank ???? pretty good idea ?? That same piece of property in Jacksonville, FL would run about 90 grand or more. I'll keep you guys informed as to the status of the big plan to acommodate guests later on down the road. How about a name for it... Backcountry B&B ? lol.... Have a happy and SAFE Memorial Day weekend !!!! As for myself.... I will be trout fishing somewhere in West Virginia !!!! and at the bank at 0900 hours Tuesday morning !” 5:14:35 PM 5/25/04 “sounds nice trekker john, good luck. i may head to wolf gap this weekend and take 3 or 4 days to hike the loop we didn't get through last time.” 5:38:59 PM 5/25/04 Trekker John “Wow, that little hideaway sounds absolutely idyllic. I would love to buy something like that. Geo introduced me to northern West Virginia a year ago and I cannot get enough of the place. Can you e-mail me the name of the bank? Do they have any more places for sale?” 5:49:38 PM 5/25/04 www.fieldandstreamrealestate.com “here is my little treasure http://fieldandstreamrealestate.com/property/868FCB.jpg this is when the real estate company had it..... then it went back to the bank and I close on it Tuesday. But, the bank lowered the price to 14k. pretty cool, huh !!!!” 8:19:03 PM 5/25/04 “14K for a house, not bad!” 8:39:38 PM 5/25/04 “Bounce - Feel free to join, looks like the weather's gonna be perfect for this hike.” 6:38:18 AM 5/27/04 “Dang, baume66!!! No bushwackin' this time, huh? I plan on trying to get to Haystack Knob up on the Roaring Plains this coming weekend with the Adventure Boys(Henry and Mark). Mark's mom is having a HS graduation party on Saturday for him so we can't hit the road until Saturday evening at the earliest. Our tentative plan is to park in Laneville at The Horse Farm and night-hike up the Flat Rock Run Trail. There is a spot two miles up at the forks of Flat Rock Run where we will camp if we do the night operation. Now, to check the weather!” 7:14:52 AM 5/27/04 “Mark Hey! We are either going out to Cranberry or Roaring Plains. Maybe we'll see ya in da woods. WHere's this Horse Farm?” 7:23:19 AM 5/27/04 JO “What's this "we" stuff? The horse farm is about four miles up Bonner Mountain Road at the trailhead for Flat Rock Run Trial. Bonner Mountain Road goes east from Route 32 just south of the village of Dry Fork, which is 10-15 miles south of Davis.” 7:28:59 AM 5/27/04 “uh....Ellen and I. Thanks for the directions. I was hoping to camp next to running water. We'll ( I'll ) see. The idea of bushwhackin around up there in hot weather sounds a little sketchy. Hey, BTW, I've been thinking about maybe going back to the Wonderland next summer. Wonderland II in '05. Sally and Ben are in and Ellen would like to do a segment, say The lake to Sunrise. What was the lake called? She'd go back to Seattle and hang out til we're done.” 7:55:47 AM 5/27/04 Mowich Lake ? ? “No bushwackin' for us guys, there is a trail to Haystack Knob. There is a good creek on the way but no water to camp by.” 8:27:26 AM 5/27/04 “Yes, that's it. Mowich. Was I ever happy to see that place. Think it over. '06 Sally says she might want to hike the Long Trail. Hanna and I are going to Nova Scotia this summer. So anyway....no bushwhacking huh!? The weather looks good actually.” 8:36:57 AM 5/27/04 “This is gonna be a great hike, anybody want to join in?” 12:44:11 PM 5/27/04 “Bison, goin' on the Lumberjack Trail?? "I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK....." Where is it?” 1:14:13 PM 5/27/04 “Near Spruce Knob, as a matter of fact the lumberjack trail goes along the west of Spruce Knob itself.” 1:16:05 PM 5/27/04 “I'll wave to ya from Haystack Knob!” 1:18:13 PM 5/27/04 “How far away is that?” 1:49:49 PM 5/27/04 “Ahh I see you'll be just a few miles to the North, I'll wave back.” 1:54:47 PM 5/27/04 “Hey Bison, what kind of trip are you thinking of for the 17-18? The one you did before and include a summit of Spruce?” 11:28:37 AM 7/01/04 “That's a good idea. Hopefully the Boulevard trail has dried out a litte.” 11:33:56 AM 7/01/04 Bison “What's the route that we're going to take?” 2:28:20 PM 7/06/04 “bump” 5:33:47 PM 7/06/04 “Where you guys going? Sods? I wanna go :-(” 5:36:34 PM 7/06/04 “I don't see why not Dub. Join us. Less than two weeks. We're repeating Bison's trip of a month ago and adding Spruce Knob to the fray.” 5:43:13 PM 7/06/04 “Seneca Creek trail to Huckleberry trail to High Meadows Trail to Lumberjack trail to Huckleberry trail on up to Spruce Knob.” 5:46:06 PM 7/06/04 “sveet. Sounds good to me. Should we post a trip or handle it on this thread?” 5:50:02 PM 7/06/04 “maybe we can drag BM with us.” 5:53:52 PM 7/06/04 “In two weekends? Meaning the weekend of the Ithaca trip? This weekend I got a wedding, next weekend a conference, after that it's up to work, but if I can I'll go. I need the exercise.” 5:55:12 PM 7/06/04 “Anyone want to do some backpacking in West Virginia this weekend? We are going to bag Spruce Knob.” 9:44:31 PM 7/10/04 “On Sunday?” 10:34:30 PM 7/10/04 “the 17 and 18th.” 7:50:42 AM 7/11/04 “When you gonna do Spruce?” 2:02:35 PM 7/11/04 “Can't go that weekend! Although I wouldn't mind going another weekend soon and just dayhiking about 15-20 miles of Dolly Sods Northern Trails each day on Sat/Sun to find a good route/place to stay next year.” 2:58:57 PM 7/11/04 “the 18th. Not really the Dolly Sods area, more the Seneca Rocks Spruce Knob Area is where we will be bp'g. bison has a pretty awesome route worked out. Alot of high alt. meadows and great places to camp and a couple large water (river) crossings taboot.” 5:35:35 PM 7/11/04 “bump” 9:26:52 PM 7/11/04 route “Seneca Creek trail to Huckleberry trail to High Meadows Trail to Lumberjack trail to Huckleberry trail on up to Spruce Knob. Bison 05:46:06 PM 07/06/04” 9:43:50 PM 7/11/04 “bump” 2:58:38 PM 7/12/04 “-ity, bump bump” 3:07:10 PM 7/12/04
