Wide backpacking shoes

“I just spent over 2 hours in Wildware Outfitters trying to find a backpacking boot. Much of that time was spent changing socks (different thicknesses) and insoles.

It's got to be wiiiiiiide.

Preferably light (no winter hikes), waterproof and not much more than $125. I was originally looking for a low-top, but after trying a higher top, I thought the extra support would come in handy.

Anybody get through a similar situation successfully?”

“Have you looked at LLBean's boots? Most come in wide, and they work pretty good.”

“You might try EMS Summits. They come in wide (each store can carry different stock though), GTX and very comfortable to me. They should be close to your price when they are on sale which happens a lot.

If you are having trouble fitting I would try to stick with LL Bean, REI, or EMS if only for the return/exchange policy.”

“I went into a Dunham's store, but got NO service. None at all. Unless you count the smile the cashier gave me when I was leaving while she sucked down her soda.

With those return policies, I guess one can't go wrong. I think it's time for a road trip.”
