I want to do a day hike in Northern Ca

Wanna, you could do some dayhiking at MT. Diablo state park, it's not too far from San Fran. Has a few peaks over 3000 feet and should present a decent, challenging hike with great views of san fran and the ocean.

That's where my grandparents live. I could literally hike Mt. Diablo from my grandparents front door.

IJ
the trails all look like they are between 2-5 miles long. So a dayhike would probably be about 8 miles total.

BTW - ATCF distance from my grandparents house to the summit of Mt. Diablo - 6.22 miles. Next time I visit them I'll hike up there and use their front door as the trailhead.

EarthNsky, from the web site it looks like about 5.6 miles the GG bridge.

Looks like a pretty touristy place. Are there places to get away from all the people?

Apparently on Mt. Kilamajaro in Africa has a better view (land area) than Mt. Diablo. Interesting. Mt. Shasta can be seen from the summit on clear days.

Wow, I hope so, Kilimanjaro a hell of a lot higher than Mt. Diablo.

ha, well, from what I have read you can see the most land mass from the summit of Mt. Diablo, that is excluding Kilamajaro.

So, is there anybody who wants to join me either to Muir Woods or Mt. Diablo? I really want to see if there's someone interested in this trip to either one, then I can make an adjustment to myself. I'd love to have a company.

Don't forget Mt Tamalpais near Muir Woods or drive another 25 miles north and hit Pt Reyes. Try the coast trail for good ocean views. Just turn back when you are tired. Mt Tam is a little tough but the views are awesome.

You can drive to the top of Mt Diablo but the trails are great too.

For less crowded redwoods head south of SF to Big Basin or Henry Cowell. You can also catch the end of the Skyline to the sea trail that starts at Waddell beach and heads towards Big Basin. That would be your closest trailhead right off 1 south of SF.

Have fun!

It's been on the cool side around here lately - lots of overcast in the mornings. Only in the 70s out Mt. Diablo way I think. But it would be pretty toasty for hiking if it was in the more normal 80s out that way....

Water and don't get lost. Won't be a problem on Diablo. You do know about filtering your water? Lot's of cows call the slopes of Diablo home. Always tell someone where you are going and when you should return.

Just saw this thread. Definitely reconsider and think about Point Reyes National Seashore. There aren't many places like it. It's beautiful. I have obligations Sat or would join you.
