So you're willing commit age discrimination, even though you are against it Mutt? Isn't that hypocritical?

Well at least the religious right is not taking a hypocritical stance by lobbying against gay marriage (a topic Jesus never spoke of) because they are also campaigning equally hard for a Constitutional amendment against divorce (something that Jesus did address directly in Matthew 5:32 and Matthew 19:9).

Come on, Sarge, you can do better than this nonstarter. How about brother and sister marrying? Particularly if they're of age and sterile? Why would I discriminate against them but not gays?

We'll get to that later. For now I'm asking about age. Please do not reformulate my questions. Thank you.

So, isn't that hypocritical?

After a long day of healing lepers and fighting evil, I like to unwind by indulging in a refreshing bubble bath. Women interested in joining me in this blissful relaxation are encouraged to contact me for consideration.

Nope. Again, there's the matter of self-determination - one of the logical underpinnings of age-based marriage laws. It applies to marriage in general - not just hetero or homo.

Now can we finally get to your point?
Mutt

Well Mutt, why is self-determination important? Is that in the constitution somewhere?

ive been approached in a city park by another male. i was pretty ticked off about it, not because it was another male, but because i was not at all receptive, but he wanted to keep advancing. just as if i was getting unwanted advances from a woman i was not attracted to, unwanted attention is unwanted attention, and that is harassment

more circular logic
being a poofter is a sin because the bible says it is
it says so in the bible
and if its in the bible, it must be true, because the bible is the word of god, because the bible says the bible is the word of god, and the bible wouldnt lie because the bible is the word of god

there is no proof that the bible is in the word of god except in the bible itself. if thats not technically circular logic, then its certainly in the same vein.

the bible is a collection of books, not just one book. does every single book claim to be the word of god? please give me some quotes that indicate the bible is the literal word of god.

ya know, its awfully convenient that all these miracles happened thousands of years ago as proof to gods people, but none of them happen today. back in the day, you couldnt turn around without witnessing a miracle. but today, nobodys walking on water, virgins arent giving birth, people arent coming back from the dead without a doctor or medic present. no miracles, no proof, nada. im not buying it, i aint even renting it. the bible is a collection of books written by many thoughtful and philosophical men trying to make sense of their world. some were deluded into thinking they were divinely inspired. perhaps some of them were outright liars. so far, all thats been proven to me is jack diddly. to say "look at it from gods perspective" is just another way of saying "stop asking why and just do it". that just dont wash

The problem with your statement is that the bible didn't write itself. People physically wrote it, verified for it, and sometimes died horrible deaths with nothing to gain unless they were telling the truth. So, it's not that "it says it's so" as much as "it says it's so, and, oh by the way, people confirmed it".

Perhaps you haven't been around people in oppressed countries where to them the Bible is much more important in their lives. Miracles are more often seen there. If you were told of a miracle, crash, would you believe it is the work of God?

Crash Bang, regarding the miracles of the Bible thousands of years ago, you are not understanding the unfolding story of God. That's okay, it's a good question for those who haven't read or understand the Bible, so here's the reason.

In the days of old, there was no completed "Bible". Even the written words that existed were few and far between because, well, they didn't have printers back then. Each scroll was handwritten/chiseled and cherished and not available for purchase to the public at the local market for two fish and a bushel of wheat. Most of the Word of God was transmitted orally from generation to generation.

How did God "prove", so to say, that He was the real God? Through miracles. That way people would believe. Any man can claim to be the Messiah, but if you heal the sick and allow the blind to see and walk through walls and all that, then you know something is different about the dude. It was to get the ball "rolling" until the time of the next "age", the church age, where a living and active body of Christ, with the Holy Spirit, and the written complete Word of God, would usher in an era of faith. Jesus Himself talked about this, saying of course you believe when you see these miracles with your own eyes, but how much more for those who believe by "faith"! God wants us to believe by faith, a well thought out logical faith, and not because we can make lightning strike where we want at any time. This is the whole message of this era... believe by faith. Today, as opposed to ancient days, we have a risen Lord, the work of the Holy Spirit (unleashed at Pentecost), the complete written Word of God to read and study, and the "church", the body of Christ. If those aren't enough, and you need to see obvious miracles to make you believe, as did those with very little to go by in ancient days, then you simply reject the Truth as layed out in God's Word.

To those who think we're crazy, you just don't understand. God is as real and clear to me as gravity. If you say I'm a bigot, it's like telling me gravity is a bigot for only letting things fall straight down and not sideways and upways and at all angles. Seriously. The Bible is Truth, the only Truth, and I have absolutely no worries about betting my life on it. If someone puts a gun to my head and says if I believe in the Bible I'll die, then pull the trigger. It's a no-brainer. Pun intended.

No, those who think God is a bigot simply don't understand His ways and His plan. God has an order and a reason for creation, man rebelled and has been against His plan ever since, and in his own mind man thinks God is unfair and a bigot and non-accepting, when in actuality the opposite is the case. Even in man's rejection of God, He still, out of pure desperate love, still died for us. All of us. Homosexuals, murderers, rapists, thieves, evil-doers, liberals, environmentalists, (ha ha!) conservatives, big oil executives, moms, dads, grandparents, children, dentists, church-goers, Osama bin Laden, Mr. Rogers, etc., etc. Sin is sin, faith is faith. Christ said He will save ANYONE who comes to Him with belief. Christ also said in Him there is no difference between slave and free, male and female, Jew or Gentile, we are ALL 100% equal regardless of economic status or race or whatever. That's about as unbigoted and accepting as they come. And it's what I believe. But the perception of this Truth by non-Christians is otherwise. Some of it deservedly so because many Christians tweak and bastardize and judge in a way that is not what Christ would want from us. It's a fine line between standing for what's right as God wants us to do, and coming across as judgmental bigots. We are not to judge, we are to love, while still holding true to God's convictions. It's the whole "love the sinner but hate the sin" but so many people see it as hating the sinner too, which it isn't. We must stand for the Truth while showing God's Grace, and Truth and Grace should go hand in hand. I type really fast.
