According to the article, the reason it was implemented was so the post office machinery could sort it properly, but with new scanning systems, all can now be sorted properly. On a side note, we have a stupid law, here in Ohio that says you have to hold a latern 20 feet or something like that, from the back of your vehicle when you are backing onto a road at night. The law was put into effect so horses wouldn't be scared, but it still exists, and I could, technically, get a ticket. Some laws aren't followed because they are outdated, such as this 80 lbs paper BS.

Noe's attorney has acknowledged a shortfall of up to $13 million of the money Noe invested for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. The state attorney general has accused Noe of stealing up to $6 million.

The investigation led to sweeping changes at the bureau, the conviction of Gov. Bob Taft and two former aides on ethics charges and pending charges against two other former Taft aides.

The FBI is investigating allegations that Attorney General Jim Petro personally took away lucrative special counsel work from an Akron law firm after the firm's president refused to donate to his campaign.

Jack Morrison, president of the law firm Amer Cunningham, said he has been contacted by the FBI and has agreed to meet with an agent on Wednesday. The bureau contacted Morrison after The Plain Dealer reported on Jan. 29 that both Morrison and Akron attorney Ray Weber said they lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in state legal work awarded by Petro after they declined to contribute to his campaign for attorney general in 2002.

"Jack, you're going to be very unhappy with me next year . . . because I have to be loyal to those that were loyal to me, and you supported (former state Treasurer) Joe Deters," Morrison quoted Petro as telling him. "You're going to lose your work, but you'll have a chance to get back on board if you make contributions. But you're going to have to sit out a year."

Petro, who is running for governor, has vehemently denied Morrison's and Weber's accusations, but the FBI's inquiry suggests that the bureau is taking seriously allegations of heavy handed fund-raising that have dogged Petro's campaign. In December, Columbus attorney Kevin O'Brien, a Democrat, provided a sworn statement alleging that he met Petro's fund-raiser, Amy Gravengaard, at a bar and that she told him he could get state legal work if he made campaign contributions.

With the November election less than nine months away, the Republican Party finds itself awash in scandal. Federal agents are still investigating pay-to-play allegations against former House Speaker Larry Householder; Gov. Right now, all three on that caucus at facists, which explains why Ohio is all red, despite the fact that actual voters are 50-50, and the good majority of all eligible voters are 65% dem, 35% repub. Haha! Already starting in with the concessionary fraud charges huh? My views on the governor’s race is that Strickland will win big. Blackwell’s too dirty and everyone knows it. Strickland is a lame duck too though and no matter who wins we are screwed in the ass and more taxes are on the way. Sadly the man best suited for the job can’t even get any airtime as Ohio just loves the two party two step and only care about voting for the winner. Neither one of these dumb shlts can hold a candle to Bill Peirce’s platform of smaller government, fewer and lower taxes, free markets and more freedom. Blackwell and Strickland refused to even let Peirce in the door at debates because they’d get their clocks cleaned.

We've been following Ken Blackwell's career for years. Our file on him is more than an inch thick. We've talked with him personally and come away impressed with his intelligence and commitment to change -- both of which are much needed in this state.But while Blackwell may still get some of our individual votes, he's lost our endorsement, for whatever it's worth. His total nastiness at the Monday debate with his opponent, Democrat Ted Strickland, has proven that he's really not the kind of man we need as our next governor. Personal attacks of dubious accuracy should have no place in a political campaign. As Strickland said, "Mr. Blackwell, you should be ashamed of yourself."

Both Blackwell and Strickland have campaigned as religious people. Blackwell is an evangelical Christian and Strickland an ordained Methodist minister. The Monday debate showed which one has a greater understanding of Christian conduct.

When will the politicians learn that most people hate this sort of negativism? For a bright man, Blackwell apparently hasn't figured out that when you're polling badly, you don't just do more of the same. The only people who react positively to negative campaigning are those who are as mean-spirited as the message. And thankfully, there aren't enough of them to make a difference at Ohio's polls.

Washington -- Many television stations in Ohio Thursday pulled a Republican Party commercial that attacked Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Sherrod Brown over an old tax bill.

The Republican National Committee maintained there was nothing wrong with its ad, which accused Brown of failing to pay an unemployment tax bill for 13 years.

But attorneys for the Brown campaign said the bill, from the 1992 tax year, was paid in early 1994 and that a mere paperwork error gave the false impression that the payoff didn't occur until 2005. The state of Ohio confirmed Brown's account.

"We asked the RNC for documentation and they were not able to give it, and we pulled the ad," said Bill Fee, general manager of WCPO in Cincinnati.

It was unclear how many stations kept the ad running. Fee said he understands the RNC is working to replace it with a new ad. RNC spokesman Aaron McLear said he had no details.

Mike DeWine, a Republican seeking a third term, on Thursday altered his own campaign's ad that attacked Brown over the tax delinquency. DeWine's ad initially said the tax bill went unpaid for 12 years, but the time reference was omitted Thursday.

"Our ad will reflect the facts," DeWine said. "And the facts are that he did not pay his unemployment compensation, it was overdue, and the state had to put a lien on it."

DeWine attended a $1,000-a-plate luncheon in Hudson Thursday with former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, before heading to Toledo for a debate with Brown. The luncheon raised about $250,000, the DeWine campaign said.

In a telephone interview, DeWine dismissed newspaper reports that the Republican Party had pressured him to step up attacks on Brown and threatened to withhold support for his campaign.

"I get advice from a lot of people," he said, "but in the end I make the decisions about what the tenor of the campaign is and what we do."
