According to the article, the reason it was implemented was so the post office machinery could sort it properly, but with new scanning systems, all can now be sorted properly. The fact that he could make exceptions for some but not others is bogus. On a side note, we have a stupid law, here in Ohio that says you have to hold a latern 20 feet or something like that, from the back of your vehicle when you are backing onto a road at night. The law was put into effect so horses wouldn't be scared, but it still exists, and I could, technically, get a ticket. Some laws aren't followed because they are outdated, such as this 80 lbs paper BS. I think there is a whole thread dedicated to stupid laws.... I'll find it for ya, there are some knee-smackers on there.” 4:41:57 PM 9/29/04 “thanks BB for paving the way for bush to take ohio I am sure you'll find a way to discount the source or methods but the facts stand.” 6:55:02 PM 9/29/04 “I tried to tell him this is Bush country...” 6:59:38 PM 9/29/04 “Hey Joe! It sounds like you are no longer undecided. No need to to play the field here. If you want to display your stupidity like Nigal, Wanderer, bacpac, stratdewd, bison, buck and noprob, just do it, and be ridiculed for not backing up your facts like the rest. Afterall, God has nothing to do with facts, so have at it, and quit hiding.” 9:37:55 PM 9/29/04 “Are we taking bets yet on how quickly Buddha's head will explode after Bush is declared the winner on election night? Will he wait until the national race is called or will he blow up after they've announced Bush has won Ohio?” 10:40:20 PM 9/29/04 “My "undecidedness" was made quite clear when I asked ewker to change my vote to GW on his poll thread. "and be ridiculed for not backing up your facts like the rest." The poll I posted IS fact. Its actually a whole series of facts compiled by Ohio neswpapers. So nanny-nanny-boo-boo. I am not sure why you brought up God? My gut tells me its a feeble attempt to goad me into a fight. Isnt gonna work. I can disagree with someones politics without getting personal and resorting to petty insults and name calling. "and quit hiding" What? Who is hiding? I thought you were about facts? Not posting on every inane political thread you start (Its funny how you used to troll and rag on mapleleaf for starting so many threads, now look at you...I love irony) has nothing to do with hiding. I dont need to listen to a broken record repeat itself 100 times to know I dont particularily enjoy it. I not trying to change anyone mind or force my opinion down anyones throat. The beauty this is this. The US will survive another 4 years of Bush or 8 of John Kerry. Have at it though. I look forward to your response,I am sure it'll be entertaining.” 5:38:34 AM 9/30/04 “"Are we taking bets yet on how quickly Buddha's head will explode after Bush is declared the winner on election night?" I have scientifically broken it down to the span of 20 seconds… 1-5 seconds- utter shock 6-10 seconds- denial 11-15 seconds- sole crushing disappointment which will lead to thoughts of suicide, thoughts of moving to France or moving to Canada to shack up with Laqtose 16-19 seconds- piss pants 20 seconds- head explodes "Will he wait until the national race is called or will he blow up after they've announced Bush has won Ohio?" As soon as it's anounced Bush has won Ohio he has but 20 seconds before his head explodes (boy those walls will be painted with some shlt!). You don't win the country without winning Ohio.” 8:20:22 AM 9/30/04 “Nigal, you left out stage 3 that most of the left will undergo: 3. Blame - there must be a conspiracy, the right stole the election someway, somehow. I know they stole it because the only people that are rational are the ones that think like me.” 8:27:31 AM 9/30/04 “"Nigal, you left out stage 3 that most of the left will undergo: 3. Blame - there must be a conspiracy, the right stole the election someway, somehow. I know they stole it because the only people that are rational are the ones that think like me." This was factored into the formula as it’s already a given before the election even happens because according to Buddha only stupid people would ever vote for GW (ya know, like Buddha did in 2000?) so the blame game is already set to a contingency should Kerry get his ass kicked in on Nov.2.” 8:44:55 AM 9/30/04 “Ahhh, you are wise beyond your years.” 8:47:42 AM 9/30/04 “Well according to http://www.realclearpolitics.com/bush_vs_kerry_sbys.html Bush is still ahead in Ohio and Kerry's lead in Mi is now a tenuous 1/2 %. Keep up the good work!” 5:37:46 AM 10/07/04 “This is what happens when your state and federal government are dominated by the republican party.” 11:35:01 AM 10/21/04 “How come every time Bush visits Ohio, his numbers go down? Is that why he hasn't been there in three weeks? I guess its hard to put lipstick on that jobs pig.” 11:50:33 AM 10/21/04 “Maryland's Republican governor did an end run on the law and took away collective bargaining from state employees this year. Some of us went to Annapolis on citizen lobbying days to get collective bargaining a few years ago and this knuckle-dragger took it away in imperial fashion. He, like Dubya, will be a one-term wonder.” 11:55:37 AM 10/21/04 “Collective bargaining is nothing more than corprate blackmail.” 3:54:29 PM 10/21/04 “?? Collective bargaining seems to work just fine for athletes. Now if we could get the same contract negotiators for the working class we'd be set.” 3:44:43 PM 10/24/04 ““Collective bargaining is nothing more than corprate blackmail.” Nigal 3:54:29 PM You mean blackmail BY corporations???? WTF?? It means bargaining for a labor contract. Most businesses bargain with their suppliers/buyers/partners for contracts in their mutual interests. Once that is settled all parties can get to the business of getting their work done without fear of being cheated by other involved parties.” 4:00:17 PM 10/24/04 “The negotiator is only half the equation. The local leadership is the other half. A weakness in either of the two, and it ain't pretty.” 6:04:49 PM 10/24/04 “COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Prosecutors charged a prominent GOP fundraiser Monday with theft and money laundering in an investigation of a controversial state investment in rare coins that has embroiled Republicans in scandal during an election year. Coin dealer Tom Noe already is charged with using colleagues and associates to illegally funnel $45,000 to President Bush's re-election campaign. The 53-count indictment over the coin investment, which also includes charges of forgery and tampering with records, concludes a 10-month investigation by a team of state and federal prosecutors into the $50 million investment Noe managed for the state insurance fund for injured workers. Noe's attorney has acknowledged a shortfall of up to $13 million of the money Noe invested for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. The state attorney general has accused Noe of stealing up to $6 million. The investigation led to sweeping changes at the bureau, the conviction of Gov. Bob Taft and two former aides on ethics charges and pending charges against two other former Taft aides. http://www.nbc4i.com/news/7006287/detail.html?treets=col&tml=col_break&ts=T&tmi=col_break_1_09060202132006” 1:05:45 PM 2/14/06 “He's Ohio's Abramhoff, well, one of many at least.” 1:24:18 PM 2/14/06 “The Evil Empire is unravelling??” 3:08:22 PM 2/14/06 Corruption “It's almost a dialy occurance with Ohio's republican party. "GOP Gubantorial Canidate Under Investigation" The FBI is investigating allegations that Attorney General Jim Petro personally took away lucrative special counsel work from an Akron law firm after the firm's president refused to donate to his campaign. Jack Morrison, president of the law firm Amer Cunningham, said he has been contacted by the FBI and has agreed to meet with an agent on Wednesday. The bureau contacted Morrison after The Plain Dealer reported on Jan. 29 that both Morrison and Akron attorney Ray Weber said they lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in state legal work awarded by Petro after they declined to contribute to his campaign for attorney general in 2002. "Jack, you're going to be very unhappy with me next year . . . because I have to be loyal to those that were loyal to me, and you supported (former state Treasurer) Joe Deters," Morrison quoted Petro as telling him. "You're going to lose your work, but you'll have a chance to get back on board if you make contributions. But you're going to have to sit out a year." Petro, who is running for governor, has vehemently denied Morrison's and Weber's accusations, but the FBI's inquiry suggests that the bureau is taking seriously allegations of heavy handed fund-raising that have dogged Petro's campaign. In December, Columbus attorney Kevin O'Brien, a Democrat, provided a sworn statement alleging that he met Petro's fund-raiser, Amy Gravengaard, at a bar and that she told him he could get state legal work if he made campaign contributions. With the November election less than nine months away, the Republican Party finds itself awash in scandal. Federal agents are still investigating pay-to-play allegations against former House Speaker Larry Householder; Gov. Bob Taft and senior aides have been convicted of misdemeanor ethics violations; and, on Monday, a Lucas County grand jury returned a 53-count racketeering indictment accusing prominent GOP fund-raiser Tom Noe of stealing more than $2 million from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation. --Ted Wendling” 3:13:28 PM 2/14/06 “COLUMBUS, Ohio - As the GOP scrambles nationwide to retain its majority, scandal-ridden Ohio appears to be falling off the financial radar screen. Television time is being forsaken for House candidates. And national promotions of the state's gubernatorial candidate by the Republican Governors Association popped up, then disappeared. Ohio Republicans are trying to regroup amid a guilty plea Friday by U.S. Rep. Bob Ney (news, bio, voting record) in a Washington influence-peddling case and the trial of GOP fundraiser Tom Noe — accused of stealing from a state investment in rare coins — set to begin next week. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061014/ap_on_el_ge/ohio_s_republican_hopes;_ylt=AuYiNUXywxGUXS8me0wk7TCyFz4D;_ylu=X3oDMTA0cDJlYmhvBHNlYwM-” 7:21:24 PM 10/15/06 “didn't read the article - but do they say anything about how the GOP has restrategized it's whole method to how to spend money? they're not going the typical route this year with ads, etc... i'm sure Ohio is one of the 1st places that would notice it last edited: 10/15/06 7:24:35 PM” 7:24:06 PM 10/15/06 “Great link Violin. The repubs are absolutely screwed out here. We will win the gov. race by a landslide. And, the icing on the cake is that we will win either the attn'y general race and/or the sec. of state race or both, and the three of them sit on the gerrymandering caucus. Right now, all three on that caucus at facists, which explains why Ohio is all red, despite the fact that actual voters are 50-50, and the good majority of all eligible voters are 65% dem, 35% repub. This may carry dem senatorial candidate Brown to victory as well (it's close to a dead heat). We may get Ney's seat as well. If Ohio doesn't sweep 90% of what we expect, it will be to fraud (rep. gov. candidate is Blackwell, sec. of state & as fascist as they come), and if frausd is to blame, many I speak with will not tolerate it (i.e. - Kent State II). Nov. 9 should be all good in Ohio, the swing voters have finally woken up.” 7:45:28 PM 10/15/06 ““ If Ohio doesn't sweep 90% of what we expect, it will be to fraud (rep. gov. candidate is Blackwell, sec. of state & as fascist as they come), and if frausd is to blame, many I speak with will not tolerate it (i.e. - Kent State II).” Haha! Already starting in with the concessionary fraud charges huh? My views on the governor’s race is that Strickland will win big. Blackwell’s too dirty and everyone knows it. Strickland is a lame duck too though and no matter who wins we are screwed in the ass and more taxes are on the way. Sadly the man best suited for the job can’t even get any airtime as Ohio just loves the two party two step and only care about voting for the winner. Neither one of these dumb shlts can hold a candle to Bill Peirce’s platform of smaller government, fewer and lower taxes, free markets and more freedom. Blackwell and Strickland refused to even let Peirce in the door at debates because they’d get their clocks cleaned. http://peirceforohio.com/ As for Brown and Dewine, neither get a vote from me. Dewine supports terrorism and Brown is tax and spend liberal. Same shlt different year. Overall you're right Buddha, this is the years the democrats get their chance to fukc up the state for a few years. They can't do any worse than Taft and his gang did.” 8:22:24 AM 10/16/06 8:44:15 PM 10/18/06 “UH huh...so why are you already planning concession speeches?” 8:46:30 PM 10/18/06 “"etc"? c'mon... be specific!” 8:49:26 PM 10/18/06 ““This says it all: People in Ohio Have Had it with the lies corruption, etc.” So how the phuck are they gonna vote democrat either? Their both full of corrupt thieves. But there are also good men and women serving there also who never get any credit or air time. Don't vote R or D. Vote with your conscience or just be another party line pawn. But yes, the bullshlt stops this year.” 10:19:03 AM 10/19/06 “Dou Lobbs in 08.” 11:19:34 AM 10/19/06 “I do think it’s funny that a union shill would be talking about corruption though. Kind of like Dick Chaney teaching hunter’s education classes. LOL!” 5:36:22 PM 10/19/06 “Or like Donald Rumsfeld teaching a class on how to be a more approachable leader. Or like GWB teaching a class on diplomacy and foreign relations. Or like Condaleeza Rice Teaching a class on the importance of dental braces as a teenager. Or like a child molester heading the missing and exploited... err.. wait.” 5:41:19 PM 10/19/06 “Poor tired sad Phead. All potatoes and no meat. :(” 6:31:53 PM 10/19/06 “How common is it for a newspaper to unendorse a candidate? We've been following Ken Blackwell's career for years. Our file on him is more than an inch thick. We've talked with him personally and come away impressed with his intelligence and commitment to change -- both of which are much needed in this state. But while Blackwell may still get some of our individual votes, he's lost our endorsement, for whatever it's worth. His total nastiness at the Monday debate with his opponent, Democrat Ted Strickland, has proven that he's really not the kind of man we need as our next governor. Personal attacks of dubious accuracy should have no place in a political campaign. As Strickland said, "Mr. Blackwell, you should be ashamed of yourself." Both Blackwell and Strickland have campaigned as religious people. Blackwell is an evangelical Christian and Strickland an ordained Methodist minister. The Monday debate showed which one has a greater understanding of Christian conduct. When will the politicians learn that most people hate this sort of negativism? For a bright man, Blackwell apparently hasn't figured out that when you're polling badly, you don't just do more of the same. The only people who react positively to negative campaigning are those who are as mean-spirited as the message. And thankfully, there aren't enough of them to make a difference at Ohio's polls. http://www.thecourier.com/opinion/editoral/ar_ED_101806.asp” 11:01:10 AM 10/20/06 TV Stations have to pull DeWine's Lying TV Ads “Ohio TV stations pull ad by GOP attacking Brown Friday, October 20, 2006 Stephen Koff Plain Dealer Bureau Chief Washington -- Many television stations in Ohio Thursday pulled a Republican Party commercial that attacked Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Sherrod Brown over an old tax bill. The Republican National Committee maintained there was nothing wrong with its ad, which accused Brown of failing to pay an unemployment tax bill for 13 years. But attorneys for the Brown campaign said the bill, from the 1992 tax year, was paid in early 1994 and that a mere paperwork error gave the false impression that the payoff didn't occur until 2005. The state of Ohio confirmed Brown's account. "We asked the RNC for documentation and they were not able to give it, and we pulled the ad," said Bill Fee, general manager of WCPO in Cincinnati. It was unclear how many stations kept the ad running. Fee said he understands the RNC is working to replace it with a new ad. RNC spokesman Aaron McLear said he had no details. Mike DeWine, a Republican seeking a third term, on Thursday altered his own campaign's ad that attacked Brown over the tax delinquency. DeWine's ad initially said the tax bill went unpaid for 12 years, but the time reference was omitted Thursday. "Our ad will reflect the facts," DeWine said. "And the facts are that he did not pay his unemployment compensation, it was overdue, and the state had to put a lien on it." DeWine attended a $1,000-a-plate luncheon in Hudson Thursday with former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, before heading to Toledo for a debate with Brown. The luncheon raised about $250,000, the DeWine campaign said. In a telephone interview, DeWine dismissed newspaper reports that the Republican Party had pressured him to step up attacks on Brown and threatened to withhold support for his campaign. "I get advice from a lot of people," he said, "but in the end I make the decisions about what the tenor of the campaign is and what we do." Cleveland Plain Dealer last edited: 10/20/06 11:07:25 AM” 11:06:27 AM 10/20/06 “Get ready to see a major turn-around here in Ohio.” 11:08:56 AM 10/20/06 “Obama - Brown 08'!” 11:13:29 AM 10/20/06 “LOL...like the Hildabeast is going to let that happen...LOL” 12:55:10 PM 10/20/06 “Damn, bad day yesterday. Brown beat DeWine like a redheaded stepchild which is fine by me but the issues really surprised me. The voted for the Nanny State mentality by taking away business owner's freedom to choose who can and can not smoke and where. They also shot themselves in the foot by voting for a minimum wage raise. they did however vote down a crooked assed gambling issue.” 8:45:47 AM 11/08/06 “Nigal, before I get really worried about the real charm of the Dems. I remember that this election the Dems had their party and the ENTIRE major media behind them. REAL substantive issues like taxes, economy and unemployment were not even mentioned or glanced over if they were issued. Had this been 1994, 1996, 1998 the media would have trumpeting them REGARDLESS of how bad the war in Bosnia was going (we were going to be out of there in one year by the way). Let see the direction the libs set in January. If they go the increase minimum wage, attack business, go negative on the military, and open the borders to illegals...we may be looking at a repeat of 1994 in 2008. (LOL) it would be fitting to see Nancy screw it up for Hilly.” 8:50:02 AM 11/08/06 “How bad is the war in Bosnia going? How many Americans have died there, to date? How many civilians have died from American bombs and weapons?” 8:52:38 AM 11/08/06 “While I do hear you XL and I agree this can get very bad for the country if they do not act responsibly now that they have gotten into power. But, and I mean BUT, the republicans have been in power for how many years now? Full control. They could have done so much and simply rolled over everyone with the conservative issues that they ran on to get in there. The issues that we the majority of voters showed were important to us. They did jack shlt with that power. Yes, we got a tax cut that has done a great deal for the economy IMHO but they also spent like a bunch of drunken sailors and that's about it. I'll give the dems their shot here and will remain optimistic but if they take these two years to piss their chance away I think it will be repaid with another republican presedent in 2008.” 8:57:27 AM 11/08/06 “I shot down the casino thing to Nigal, based on one thing.... my visit to a casino in Gary, Indiana two years ago. I saw nothing but middle class and poor people trying to double thier paychecks. It was pretty sad. As for Ohio, the change here is sweeping. The Dems picked up the gov, sec. of state, attorney general, and treasurer positions. Further, they took a few senate seats, and house seats away from the repubs. HUGE change. The only disappointment is that 2 bit whore Schmidt seems to have retained her office. What a shame, but good news for the working class in Ohio overall. I'm looking forward to holding them to thier platform and thier word.” 9:24:14 AM 11/08/06
