Your next hike

“Where/When's your next hike? I'm planning an overnight trip with mtnmnslady up in the Redwood Mountain Grove in Kings Canyon National Park for a weekend in June. Redwood Mountain is the largest grove of giant sequoias and it's beautiful there. Not many folks go there, either, access is off of an unsigned dirt road, so we should pretty much have it to ourselves :) Last time I was there I did the Hart Mountain Loop and this time we'll do the Sugar Bowl loop. The Sugar Bowl area is a particularly dense area of giant sequoias and thus it has more biomass per acre than anyplace on earth...”

“June 11-13 I'll be in the Smokemont/Chasteen Ck/Enloe Ck area of the Smokies. I normally do big mileage, but this will 1/6.6/3 for each day. I see some off trail exploring of Enloe Ck in my future!”

“Several day trips coming up. As far as multi-day, Superiour trail in September and maybe another couple last minute outta state trips if something interesting comes up....Wish it would quit with the rain...”

“Will be by next bp trip in about a week. Just a short, relaxing jaunt as a getaway and unwind after a stint of workdays and home responsibilities.

A longer trip in August is my last Mt. LeConte route. The Boulevard trail and some offtrail exploring.”

“Next week, spur of the moment, I'm hiking the Birkie ski trail from Cable to Hayward, Wi. Why?...thought you'd never ask, because I'm going to ski this event in the next couple of years and heard it's hell on wheels. Just want to check it out. Within the next 3 weeks I'm going to either hike the Kekabic trail in the Boundary Waters or some sections of the Superior Hiking Trail. Late July and August will find me thru hiking the Superior Hiking trail from Two Harbors, Mn to Canada. After that I'm going to have one beer.”

“Was planning at the middle of the month on hiking village to village and the volcanoes at Lago de Attilan,Guatemala catch the sunday market in Chichicastenengo, and wander through the ruins of Copan, Honduras, and then go see the ruins of Tikal and Ciebel in El Peten.
Cheap flights from most southern US cities, make this trip doable for under $700.00.(approx 12 days)
Accommidation will be in Pension's ($10-20.00/night), Transportation mostly on 2nd class "chicken busses", or boats running up rivers in the rainforests, not for the squeamish or impatient, but you will see something most people only read about, or see on PBS.”

“The first full weekend of June (I think it's the 5th and 6th) turbo, two other young people, and I will be doing the Chuck Keiper trail near Renovo, PA. Anyone interested, please let me know. This will be a pseudo-uberhike, since we won't need to carry tentage or anything.”

Me?? I believe it will be some hiking in South Dakota and then backpacking in Nebraska, Soldier Creek Wilderness. Bring on the crazy plains (actually a bit more badlands type stuff in each case here)

Anyone ever camped at French Creek campground on the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, east of Fairburn, SD? Am looking at camping there on way out. (Of course, plans have changed 180 since first looking at this... and now have gone another 90... LOL! Who knows what will happen when the trip arrives???)”

“June 14 thru the 19 will be hiking on the AT near Fontana, hopefully overniters but have to see what my partner wants to do...
After that not a hike but big art sale at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach June 24 thru 26... if your around drop in and spend some money.”

I've been to the grove, but haven't explored it. I've read alot about it though. Lots of history there.

I'm looking to move to the foot of the Western Sierra next Spring, so there's hopefully more of that to come.”
