Why am I not surprised that Moony has more respect for cows than babies?

For all of you South Dakota ladies, here's your step-by-step guide to do-it-yourself.

Dr laura
its good to see that there are brave, patriotic americans out there like molly who are willing to take matters into their own hands if need be to stand up for the reproductive, privacy and other rights.

I am not being facetious.

The level of interference of the rightwing Christians in the daily lives and right to privacy of the majority of americans is one of the things that disturbs me most.

i have expressed my opinion about abortion way too often on this site to bother repeating it now.

Two other observations
Point #1.

Gemini's note a ways back. The one about how visiting an abortion clinic with a friend changed her perspetive. that it was disturbing to realize that these women were using abortion as birth control, casually.

That is disturbing. It certainly bothers me.

I have two thoughts about it:

1. These are not women that you would want to have bringing children into the world. They clearly exhibit a profound lack of caring for the themselves and their bodies and the consequneces of their actions . . let alone raising unwanted children.

2. It speaks volumes about Bush's and the Christian rights Abstinence campaign. I think abstienence and waiting are great. And for some kids, it is the right message. I wish it were the right message for most, or even all kids. But its not.

There is no need to argue with me. If abstinence was the right message, then those women wouldn't be at the clinic. There wouldn't be 4000 abortions daily (someone else's statistic) there would only be the medically necessary ones e.g. the late terms, rapes, health of the mother etc).

It should be obvious that instead of being cut, funding should be expanded for birth control education and access.

Its not obvious to Catholics and the Christian right however.

they want to both prevent access to birth control education and to prevent access to abortions.

Point #2

Regarding the 4000 abortions daily. Let's assume that these are all casual "birth control" type abortions of a healthy fetus.

Therefore we can conclude that there would be 4000 addtional births a day.

Dat's right. 4000 births a day of babies who aren't quite wanted. Who are an inconvience.

Now, I fully believe that a number of babies, if carried to term who be raised in a loving family. Either through adoption or even by their birth parents. These kids will grow up to be vibrant caring, contributing tax paying members of society. maybe even president.

Let's put that number at 50%. (since we'll never really know, they are dead) So that's 2000 who can take care of themselves.

What about the other 2000.

The crack addicted, fetal acholo syndrom, abandoned, abused ones. What about those 2000???

What do we do with them?

HOw about if we ask the Bush administration??? How about if we ask the right wing.

Wait . ..we already know their solution. Cut federal funding for early childhood eduction. Cut funding for single mothers. Cut funding for welfare. Force single mom's back to work. Cut daycare funding.

So let's follow the bouncing ball.

We don't want to educate you about or provide you access to birth control.

We are trying to do away with access to abortions.

We want you to have unwanted babies.

We are cutting funding and support for you.

I look up sometimes from my daily existence and realize how fortunate I am.

The will be my last on the subject
I respect only one variety of anti-abortionist.

I respect the anti-abortionist who:

1. believes that every life is precious (e.g. no death penalty);

2. Offers practical grounded solutions to the societal problems that produce unwanted pregnancies.

While I believe that abstinence campaigns have a place in this conversation, I believe for practical purposes, it is a small place. Most folks are gonna do it. And they need something other than "just don't do it" preaching.

3. Offers practical grounded solutions to the births that result.

Importantly this would include funding.

The rest. And especially the self-righteous right wing christians . .. I hate. Plain and simple.

I think they are the lowest form of life.
