Hmmmm....

Andersen Consulting, the IT division of Arthur Andersen (a business with strong Republican ties, closely linked to the Enron fiasco) splits off. The name is changed to Accenture and the letterhead is moved to the Bahamas to avoid paying corporate taxes to the United States government. Now they've landed a huge contract to provide 'Homeland Security'.

Accenture Wins Nod As Prime Contractor For US-Visit

I say, let's have a US-based company do this. These a-holes want it both ways --- for tax purposes they're offshore, but when the gravy-train rolls into the station they're Red, White and Blue all-of-a-sudden.

Tilt's typical day:
Tilt started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 5 a.m. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down in front of his computer (MADE IN MEXICO) to complain about American Companies like the Heinz corporation owned by the Kerrys moving 32 factories in Europe, 18 in Asia and the Pacific, and more in Mexico and the Carribean. Tilt, after setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search to look for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Tilt decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN HIS BELOVED FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then blamed somebody else for for companies and jobs are going overseas.

Profit is good. Hypocrisy is bad.
Hey Tilt, all those Free Trade agreements that you object to, Kerry voted for. Kerry is a hypocrite for now objecting to them. What has those Free Trade agreements done for me? Well my wife gets great pay for a British Oil Company that is investing their money overseas in the U.S. because of all the economic opportunity here. I pay less for much of my goods, but still go way out of my way to buy American where ever possible. I won't buy a car made in a country that ever declared war on the United States.

The fake and the fraud is the person who is a hypocrite who complains about the problem but is part of the problem.

Bush. Steady leadership in troubled times.

Hypocracy? That's incredibly rich, Old Bean. Why do you pretend to care about the environment and then support the Republican Agenda?

Why do you post to backpacking boards at all... except for the express purpose of spreading rightwing propaganda?

All Backpacker Should Be Republicans:
Ah Tilt, finally a legitamate question. You and I both agree that the Republican Party should be a bit more green. But, you see, the Republicans still have more practical solutions to the environment than that of the rigid Democrats. With the environmental leaning Democrats, either you embrace every point of their far-out impractical environmental solutions or they label you as part of the problem. The Democrats refusal to compromise one bit on their environmental agenda is the biggest reason why Congress is gridlocked in coming up with environmental legislation that is politically acceptable to the American public.

And finally, there is more to life than being an environmentalist. Like defense. None of the three thousand dead at the World Trade Center will ever get to enjoy the National Parks.

When our political system gives each voter only two packaged choices:

Hypocrite, soft on defense, Kerry.

Strong on defense, steady leadership, Bush.

There realy is no other choice than to vote for Bush. That my backpacking friend, is why the House, the Senate, the Presidency, and the majority of Governorships are Republican.

If your leader doesn't 'do nuance'... it's obvious to me that thinking through complex issues is antithetical to the New Rebublican Party. Yes, he's 'steady' all right, LOL... consistently backwards and easily manipulated. The recovery from this train-wreck will be a long and difficult process.

If these companies who move their letterheads offshore to save taxes prosper and become even more prevalent, I hope your progeny enjoy making up the shortfall.

Or are are they planning to move to the Bahamas as well?

Another Reason to Vote for Bush:
Tilt, you think like a true Democrat. If Kerry wins the election and gets his wish to raise taxes, affluent people will move their addresses off shore and pay zero tax. The balance of the Kerry tax increase plan will be borne by people like yourself. Those tax laws that insider Kerry has been voting for for decades gives loopholes so Kerry, whose family is worth $500 million, paid only $90,575 in federal income taxes last year. Kerry's family already has a huge estate in France sheltered from U.S. tax laws. And you are correct, I have already checked out moving my address off shore for zero tax liability. In 2005, my next long vacation overseas might be to the good old U.S.A. Another reason I do not get worked up as much as you do over the Presidential election. Be careful what you wish for.

Hard work is good, laziness is bad.
Ah Tilt, the good old 1980s when Ronald Reagan's policies won the cold war and effectively eliminated the threat of nuclear war from the U.S.S.R. Capitalism and hard work is good, allowing the United States to triumph over evil.

In the 1990s, Clinton appeased the North Koreans allowing them to join the nuclear club and greatly increase the chances of nuclear detonations in the United States. Clinton's preoccupation with lust, laziness and lies set the United States back. There are reasons why historians rank Ronald Reagan far and above the disbarred lawyer ex-President Clinton.

You can't seem to defend Accenture's offshore tax gambit in relation to winning security-related contracts.

Are you having a problem focussing?Do you need some Ritalin?

No Defense Needed.
Who would want to pick a division of Arthur Anderson to win a contract if they weren't smart enough to reduce their own tax liability. Tilt, would you pick a lawyer to defend you if he was doing time in prison himself?

Your not in court prosecutor where you could defend scum on a technicality. Tilt's right....you're changing focus and can't defend Accenture.

Your assertion about Reagan is your opinion. Many would disagree. The Soviets were already falling apart, the Pope helped a little and Reagan got on stage and grabbed attention. He also spent us in to debt.

Prosecutor - for flexibilty on the environment. Of course the administration is flexible enough to give way on any environmental issue where the industry representatives (energy, logging etc) give enough money to the party.
Every major environmental move made by this administration has been largely what the industry involved has recommended - mostly at the cost of the environment.

Are all those nuclear weapons accounted for? Is it not more dangerous now that Russia's missle system & support is crumbling?

How many Americans did the USSR kill? How many targets did it blow up in the US?

Who feels safer now?

Accenture hasn't done nothing wrong- ergo, no defense needed.

Tilt equates using the tax law to ones own advantage as greed. If Tilt knowingly pays more federal taxes than he should, he has standing to make that argument. If Tilt only pays what he has to, he is a hypocrite for making that argument. Tilt, in America, hard work pays off. Try it, you will like it.

The whole United States felt safer when Ronald reagan won the cold war. Everyone called the results of his victory as "the peace dividend". That is why professional historians rated his Presidency so high.

And the above environmental arguments is proof enough of why the Green Party in California got less than 5% of the vote. Impractical solutions rejected by 95% of the liberal California public.
