I wonder how long that approach would take Bit?

I would say a majority of the women at the bars I frequent are looking to meat..........I mean meet.

I am getting sick of the single situation though. People are never happy, aye?

Ok, coaching is all well and good for single men but what about single women who don't have kids in soccar? What are we supposed to do? Put a sign up in the front yard?

I don't really enjoy the bar scene either and the internet dating thing is worse than a blind date.

I'm at the top of the hill but I ain't dead yet and don't aim to be for quite a while. My biggest problem is that I'm too impatient. I have this tendency to want to make things happen.

So what are your suggestions, oh wise of minds.

Having never tried that approach myself, I wouldn't know. It was, however, the preferred approach of a friend of a friend. Apparently, his success rate was around one-third.

He did say you have to be ready to have your face slapped though.

i would say that i'm actually pretty happy.
it just makes me feel a little old when i realize i haven't even tried to pick up a chick in over 6 years.

thats fine for you bit. but i'm too young to die - errr... whatever.

mtnmom, i guess that all depends on what you're looking for. offtopic - what kind of improv do you like to play? i'd love to learn myself.

Two slaps and you score? Not bad. Of course, I assume one could not be picky about the, um, test subjects. It would have to be random. Don't think I'm in that state of mind, ever. Wish i would have tried that in college.

Sacco, I like blues improv and bluegrass, maybe some Jazz, although I haven't tried jazz much.

Bit, sign: AVAILABLE!

i would guess the slaps to score ratio was really much worse pre-last call.
- unless maybe he would just wait till around last call to start.

mtnmom, how'd you learn? any suggestions. i've tried a couple of "teach yourself with this book and CD" products, but i'm a slow learner -- or a lousy teacher.

I took violin lessons from the time I was 9 until I was 14 (classical - learned to read music) After that I didn't touch it except maybe to play in church. Then I discovered bluegrass about 7 years ago and had to reteach myself to play by ear (actually that's just a natural ability I have w/ the fiddle, but I assume most of it is because I had all those lessons so long ago, the instrument feels natural to me)

tips: get a book/tape/cd and listen to the music, get familiar w/ the instrument and just fiddle around. A lesson or two probably wouldn't hurt

i taught myself some piano when i was younger, learned how to read music, and got into some theory.

when i was 21 i thought i'd try something new so i bought a violin, grabbed the phone book and found a teacher. i took lessons for 3 or 4 years (all classical)

i think alot of my problem is that i can't play by ear worth crap. i can tell relative pitch o.k.,
but i think i've got no ear for "perfect pitch" as they say.

i haven't played in about 5 years, but i'm thinking about picking it back up again and trying to find someone who knows some jazz. i would love to learn some jazz improv - i just don't know if i really have the ability.

sacco, so you have some ground work there, but the ear thing may keep you back. Don't know, but don't give up. Find a group to jam with and just have fun. I'll never be able to make a career out of it, but I like to have fun.

I was always concerned that finding a partner in a bar would mean they like to drink too much or want to go back to bars all the time instead of doing more fun things. I did meet my husband in a bar/club.

lyra, I liked what you said about going to a "craphole" that you wouldn't go to normally, lol.

To find someone, I was told to go do something you like to do, and find someone that is doing it also.

My brother says that what he likes to do is stay home, so someone would have to break through his walls to find him, lol.

you are all missing the point. this whole load of crap is all because of liberalism run amuck. anyone in NY deserves it though, because they voted these clowns into office.

mtnman, i play alot of blues improv. let's jam sometime.

Tilt, I'm not sure the sign would work for me as I live on a dead-end street. (right next to a great fly-fishing river!)

Strat, yeah! let's jam! I think the commute would be a killer tho

Everyone has to pay
What about places that offer children free entry or 1/2 price for whatever, like food or tickets to events? Should children be forced to pay full price wherever they go? Should restaurants do away with the cheaper children's menu? Should there be no senior citizen's discounts?

dam right.

i don't have kids or seniors.

i have dogs instead. how come my dogs can't go into a resteraunt like those fancy, red vested "helper" dogs?

that's doggie discrimination.

Why do seniors get a discount anyway? As a group, they are wealthier than any other. Shouldn’t they pay more?

they should pay double.

During the 70's skyrocketing inflation and property taxes were killing seniors on fixed incomes. They started eating dog food and the like to survive. That's when senior discounts started. Things have improved a little in recent years. Baby boomer seniors are generally better off than the previous generation.

now these baby boomers are sucking up my tax dollars and discounts.

they should pay triple.

Trout Slayer
I prefer the Trout! Although I think I have had that one and I do like it but not everybody has it on tap. (I think that was at Fudrucker's)
