Matrix and LOTR finals
I have noticed that recently, the movies are getting darker? I am entirely entertained when they go "dark".

But what I really intend to discuss is the two movies listed in the sub title. It seems that both of the main characters have this death wish drive to go to this place, at any cost, and overcome by any means imaginable, at any cost to their friends. A huge heroic effort.

But I found that these characters, once they embarked on their "quest" were much less interesting. It seems they mope through the rest of the movie. No more character developement, no other acting required. Instead of the stars taking the scenes, their co-stars fill the void.

Go back to Star wars. While quests and chasing after heroic moments occurred repeatedly, none moped around for long. The stars never left an acting void. Other stars contributed to the movie, there was no need to fill the void.

While the Matrix and LOTR trilogies will always be remembered and show gaudy dollar amounts, they will not live up to the standards of Star Wars, Close encounter, ET, Titanic, and others. It seems that the writers run out of gas and rush to finish the works in time for the final filming.

A note about the gaudy dollar figures being touted. With inflation, the ticket prices go up, and it is real easy for a lesser movie to surpass a better movie of years ago.

Just my take on some recent movies.

LOL! We are a lot alike. I’m a movie snob and always pick them apart. First we must realize that Neo is played by Keanue Reeves. This guy couldn’t develop character if he worked in a Photo Hut. Neo really does develop but Keanue is such a poor actor…

One of the things that really intrigued me about LOTR was the connection that developed between Frodo and Smeagle and how that relationship changed and developed. Frodo knew what the ring was doing to him and he saw Smeagle as that example. He defended Smeagle near the end in order to keep his own hope and belief that he could be corrupted by the ring and still come back and be normal afterwards.

I generally feel movies are dumbed down too much. It’s all special effects and no storyline.

Sitting Too Long
I saw the new Harry Potter movie today. It was a really good movie. An interesting woven tale, with great special effects.

THE PROBLEM, before the movie, there were commercials. I don't mean previews, which they had also, but commercials. The movie was about 2hrs. 15 min., and I was in the theater for 3 hours.

It made a good movie almost intolerable to watch, because of the length of time spent sitting down. Because it just came out, you had to get there early.

Three hours is too long to sit. I live 1/2 hr. south of Seattle, and in that 3 hr period I spent in the theater, I could have driven to British Columbia and had lunch.

I'm never going to a movie that's just released again.

I HATE the ads! They had an ad running at Harry Potter for Maxim Mag hair products with a bunch of half naked chicks in it. I don't mind but many there were children.

I agree that they've gone too far with the commercials before the movie, then they still show about 12 previews.

Who do we complain too? They'll keep doing it unless movie ticket sales decline and we all know thats not gonna happen.

lipstick hiker I am with you about not going to see a just released movie. I learned this during Jurassic Park (I), the theater was packed and a family with 4 or 5 small children sat next to me. A boy about 5 or 6 grabbed onto me when the T Rex ate the guy in the bathroom and then proceeded through the whole movie to loudly ask anytime person was on screen "IS HE GONNA GET EATEN??" OMG!! What a waste!

I like the previews hate the commercials.
