May the best horse win...
After all this country has put up with, gave up, fallen into, found out, and all the rocks that have been turned up with little surprises under them, it is, for once, nice to see this story sitting under one of those rocks. I can put up with this story, and give up a few minutes of my time to watch this race, and fall into the lines at the track to place a bet, even after finding out the odds are 2-5. This is what America needs. A good feel story that is genuine and warming. Pardon me if I am being too sappy. It's time a little sappiness brought joy and hope instead of disceet and dishonesty to the American people. How ironic that it is a 3 year old colt who brings the joy and hope. I hope history is made today by this hourse.

I heard the story recently about how he had cracked his head at the starting gate some time ago and how he wasn't expected to come out of it so well. So, looking at this and considering that, I hope he does well. It IS a feel good story, Wolf!

I wouldn't mind going out to Belmont for this one either, but Maple told me it's WAYYYYYY sold out!

Yep, looks like Smarty will do it. Of course thats what I thought about the "Charm" and Real Quiet and War Emblem...
Not too sappy, Wolfeyes. Your sentiments make perfect sense.

Well, I hope that I am not the only one sitting in my chair, and ya know how you get when the race is around that last corner? You start to move your head and body back and forth with the horse thinking you are helping it along? That will be me. I hope I don't spill my beer, and just in case anyone is wondering, my trifecta is 9-5-2, but it is boxed so any combo of those numbers might win 100 bucks or so. According to the stats, only three horses have run in the mud before...Smarty being one of them. But I didn't go with Eddington...I went with Purge instead.

Post time is scheduled for 6:38 PM but covereage starts at 5:30. The race will hopefully take less than 2:24. If that occurs, then a new record will be set.

Maple- Think post time is 6:38 your time (NY, right?) TV stuff starts at 5 or 5:30.

I got Hard Rock in there, yep! Smarty is 9, Rock is 5, and Purge is 2. Yes, I think Smarty can break that track record because, well...he's Smarty. He has something about him.

Smarty Jones has been adopted by race fans in Arkansas. After winning the Arkansas Derby and the followup Kentucky Derby the Cella family, owners of Oaklawn Park, paid the owner of Smarty Jones a five million dollar bonus. The largest prize in the history of horse racing.

Amen, Go Smarty, he won't break the record on a muddy track though, but he may win by quite a few lengths. I just hope nothing wierd happens. Remember Charismatic got injured, and War Emblem stumbled out of the Gate. Although I think even if Smarty stumbles he'll still win.
