Scanner question

I have hundreds of photos and some slides that I would like to share here from my many years of backpacking, climbing, and travelling. I believe they would really knock some socks off you all.

Problem is, what is the most reasonably easy affordable way to get them from paper/negative/slide to the computer?

Are scanners easy to hook up and operate (scanners for Dummies?), and which one is good?

Or are there places that can transfer photos/negatives/slides to disk for a reasonable price?

Or any other options?

I've been very happy with my Epson Perfection 2400 Photo Scanner. You can scan prints, slides, negatives, documents, etc. It's not as good as a dedicated slide scanner but you can pick one up for about $125 now. You can only scan 4 slides at a time so it takes a while to scan a bunch, but you can read TT while you do it.
