“Thanks again everyone! Between my good news about the test, and my boyfriend's new and much improved job, we've got a lot to celebrate. We're headed to Mackinac Island tomorrow morning, and it should be a really nice time. I gave myself another treat by taking yesterday and today off. But, I"m in the local library finishing up some homework for my class. The work never ends!!

“Just got the results that I passed the NCEES Structural II exam.

This means I can get an SE license in every state except Washington and California. It's not required in this area, but one day it will be. My fear was that 10 years from now I'd need to pick up some state and they'd require it and I'd miss out on the project. No problem now.”

“Congrats. I still have a few years before I can take my exam.”

“lumberzac, I just my NY PE license. I have 2 projects up there. One is in Pikipsie (sp?) and not sure where the other one is.

The RA exam isn't too fun. At least you can take it in parts, but they sure drag out the misery.”

“Way to go, dayhiker!! I admire you structural dudes - that stuff is like Greek to me. Just give me a water pipe or some traffic volumes and put me in a corner and leave me alone....”

“The nice thing is that if you mess up only one part, you only have to take that part again. It used to be you had to take the entire exam over.”

“SEII used to be in parts and now it's all or nothing. Wouldn't be bad, but it's 50% seismic. I guess now that seismic controls most design with the advent of IBC we're stuck with knowing it. Booo.”

I'm still waiting to find out if I'll get the one-time cash bonus they talk about here for passing. Its been a few weeks, and I haven't heard anything. They are now also willing to "adjust" my base salary, but I will no longer get paid for overtime, so it really turns out that I lose money, unless they give me a bonus. No guarantee on teh bonus. Kind of sucks, if you ask me!”

“I think you're getting screwed by your current company. I think if you find one that is big on prof development of their employees then you'll have a whole diff feel about it all. May be too late with the job change, but a suggestion nonetheless.”

ACEC member firms seem to be bigger on prof development and care about the profession as a whole.”

“I vowed this would be the last engineering firm I'd work for. Going to stick around here for that 401K vesting. Got too much money waiting for me there to screw it up now.”

“We were ACEC 2002 "Firm of the Year" in Michigan. My company just typicall doesn't pay well. Real bummer!”
