Seven Spanish Angels: Willie Nelson and Ray Charles.

He looked down into her brown eyes,
And said: "Say a prayer for me."
She threw her arms around him,
Whispered: "God will keep us free."
They could hear the riders coming,
He said: "This is my last fight.
"If they take me back to Texas,
"They won't take me back alive."

There were seven Spanish angels,
At the altar of the Sun.
They were praying for the lovers,
In the Valley of the Gun.
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared,
There was thunder from the throne.
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.

She reached down and picked the gun up,
That lay smoking in his hand.
She said: "Father, please forgive me,
"I can't make it without my man."
And she knew the gun was empty,
And she knew she couldn't win.
But her final prayer was answered,
When the rifles fired again.

There were seven Spanish angels,
At the altar of the Sun.
They were praying for the lovers,
In the Valley of the Gun.
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared,
There was thunder from the throne.
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.

There were seven Spanish angels,
At the altar of the Sun.
They were praying for the lovers,
In the Valley of the Gun.
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared,
There was thunder from the throne.
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.

There were seven Spanish angels, (at the altar),
At the altar of the Sun, (oh I believe),
They were praying for the lovers (yeah they was),
In the Valley of the Gun.
(Well, well, well),
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared (there was thunder),
There was thunder from the throne, (oh yeah),
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.

Ray Charles was terrific in his performance with Willie.

Goodbye to another legend.

Hit the road, Jack.
Damn! This sucks. My sister on the left coast told me about it when we waz talkin` bidness. One of my favs, real cool homie!

I worked a show one time that he performed in. I was real anal about making sure there was ice in the urinal. Still to this day, I can not think of a reason why. I passed by him many times while workin`......very hep cat to say the least.

As they say, they broke the mold after he came out. They'll never be another like him. I wais he still was here.

RIP, ma main man!

Saw him only once at the 1996 Olympics in Hotlanta.

I have a record of him singing as a young man that I have just plain worn out.

Another great talent lost...

What a voice he had, not nearly perfect, but like Willie Nelson (see Chili's post) perfectly imperfect. And of course he was in "The Blues Brothers" which earns him extra respect. Rest in peace.

Two of my singing heroes, Johnny
Cash and Ray Charles..both gone. There will always be music, but never like they did it.

I was thinking the exact same thing, Snake. Cash was a biggie to music and so was this guy. I held Ray Charles' talent in awe. He literally blew me away with the class and talent that just seemed to emanate from the man. As far as interpretations of patirotic songs by different rock and pop stars, nothing ever matched the chill that went up my spine when Ray sang 'America The Beautiful.' That man knew true soul and how to put 'feeling' into a song. RIP, great one!

I heard an interview with Ray a couple of years ago on NPR.

He talked about when he was living in the Georgia Home for the Blind (orphanage). He laughed his ass off when he mentioned that even BLIND kids were racially segregated. Imagine.

RIP cool dude.

i saw the other thread 1st
i was just getting over johnny lee hooker...
"they played his version of AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL, from the regan innagural on the radio today....it has always given me goosebumps but both times i heard it today i cried uncontrollably...more so with every note he sang...

i can't believe he's gone, i was just thinking the other day that i bet he's leaves us soon...

my wife, who obviously knows what he means to me, recently told me outta the blue that she is gonna play that song at my funeral. i started thinking about the subject and couldn't think of any song i'd rather have played at my funeral. if you've never heard him sing it, please find it and listen to it.

may God bless his soul.... the biggest soul in the world..."
