Ricketts Glen this summer ???

“Anyone interested in a Ricketts Glen trip this summer? I was thinking sometime in late July. Ricketts Glen is in PA and is probably PA's best state park. It was almost a National Park. It would be a car camping trip, but I think it could include a bushwack trip to see the 42 falls area in the neighboring gamelands.”

“This is a very nice park but it isn't that large. I have been there a number of times. There are some nice hikes but you can do them all in a day.

I have just a couple of pics here.

There is a nice sand beach at a man-made lake, snack bar, life-guards. Probably boat rentals but I don't recall.

There are other nice places within an hour's drive or so--Promised Land State Park, World's End State Park. Also Bushkill Falls and other touristy places in the Poconos.

“Let me know when you are going to be there. First three weekends in August are out, as is the first weekend in July. Otherwise I might drag the camper up there and hang out with you a little bit.”

“World's End is right down the road and has plenty of additional hiking options.... there's definitely a lot that could be planned in the area...

Wouldn't recommend Bushkill Falls, its a tourist attraction.”

“A good friend of mine is a lifeguard at World's End swimming area....

Definitely a small park, but nice scenery.

“Rickett's Glen is awesome! The waterfalls loop trail is shortish, about 5 miles, but it takes all day. I say this over and over that no one goes to Rickett's Glen to actually hike. You hike a few hundred yards, stop to gape at an awesome waterfall, hike a few hundred more yards, stop to gape at another awesome waterfall. Repeat this about 25 times and you're done.

A group of us did this last fall, then took the short drive up to the Loyalsock at World's End and camped at Capn Bobo's secret campsite. The following day we dayhiked on the Loyalsock. It made for a great weekend.

“Just yesterday I was talking to my wife about taking the family to Rickets Glen for a day. Plenty to do out that way without heading to the Poconos where I am. It takes me about 2 hours to get to the Rickets Glen area.

“I've been to Ricketts Glen many a times. It's been a couple years, but I know the place/area well. Not real sure when I want to go yet. I'll figure it out soon and post a trip.”

“I saw on the news this morning that the falls trail at Ricketts Glen state park just reopened although they suggested only experienced hikers should use it. It had been closed since the June flood.”

“I wonder how badly it's washed out. I bet they rebuild it often.”

“Yes ricketts is a horrible mess from the major flood we had in the area. I was very tempted to sneak in and photograph the falls in the down pours but decided it was too risky. The water coming off that moutain was unbeleivable.”

“Ricketts trail reopens

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has announced that the Ricketts Glenn State Park Falls Trail reopened Thursday, one week ahead of schedule.

The state park’s staff has been working to repair damage done to the trail approximately one month ago by heavy rains and flooding. Portions of the trail have been changed dramatically from their previous condition and the stream has re-routed itself in spots.

State Park officials warn that hikers will still encounter severe conditions in some sections of the trail, including gullies, narrow sections along drop-offs, rock covered paths and holes in the trail. Hikers need to be in good physical condition and should wear proper footwear (hiking boots) when hiking the Falls Trail.
