I've decided at the last minute to do Cold Mtn to Black Balsam Knob this comeing weekend.

Starting out Sat morning from Camp Daniel Boone and going up to Cold Mtn, then heading south towards Black Balsam Knob. Could either set up a shuttle or loop back to Camp Daniel Boone.

I have the following week off from work and can stretch this into Monday too and if so possibly grab a couple more summits in the area.

I've talked about this trip on a couple of other threads too, but thought somebody might be wanting to go and not see the far scattered posts.

We hiked in from the Daniel Boone camp up to Cold Mtn. We just base camped before you turn left to go up to Cold Mt (we had both worked third shift, drove up there and did not feel like backpacking any further that day). The water source is actually from a pipe / spring sticking out beside the trail, if I remember correctly (and I did no drinking that trip!), after you turn to go up the Cold Mt trail. We went out to Shining Rock Gap area on our second day and then hiked out the same way we came in the following day. That area is so beautiful! too bad the trails in Pisgah are not a little better marked. I hope you have a great trip Roam

Jones Gap
Is one of my favorite places in the world!! I recently found out though that you can't do Rim of The Gap thru though...a land developer (I understand it was Congressman Charles Taylor) bought property near Ceasars Head and the park was not granted an easment (sp?)

what a Jerk!

Wouldn't surprise me though, i never liked him. He's one that thinks its a great idea to build that North Shore Road along Fontanna Lake in the GSMNP too.

I'm also ashamed to admitt it but I voted for him ever since I could vote..this year I can guarantee that he WON'T get my vote...he is also the one who owns property that buts up against Dupont State Park...and had dealings with the developer that was embrawled in a battle with the state for ownership of the property a few years ago!

(boy is that a run on sentence..hope you can understand my ramble)

that road on the north shore of Fontanna Lake is such a bad idea. I hope that never happens. That will destroy the smokies. Thank God the cell phone towers didn't happen.

rumor is.....
...that my hubby may visit his dad for fathersday. That means he would bring the kids up there this weekend too. Meaning... I may (MAYBE!!!!!) could make this trip. I am not sure though.

no plans around me please.

dang, that was quite a roller coaster Gemini!

I was kinda thinkin today that since i'm solo on the trip, to leave down here super early Sat morn and hike to Cold Mtn Summit and back down to Deep Gap Sat afternoon/evening and camp at Deep Gap Sat night, prolly finish out my loop Monday afternoon.

I'll be available to hear about last minute changes until at least tomorrow after lunch though.

Otherwise just meet me at the BoyScout Camp.
