Pedxing
I just posted a thread addressed to MadRiver about the Whites, and was thinking of you, wondering if it might get a response from you.

I hope you are doing well, and your recovery continues to make progress.

Its nice to see your occassional posts. I think of you, and wonder how you are.

Best to you and Ellen.

Hey Lee. I posted a reply to your White's questions. I'm doing okay, but since being married I've has to stop dating Nuns. It's no big deal though, cuzz "Hey Babe wanna see my scars and skin grafts" doesn't work too well as a pick up line.

Honestly, progress is slow - but everything is going in the right direction. I can eat and drink what I like now and don't have to put thickener in my drinks. I can walk about 1.5 to 2 miles. The scarring is starting to pick up a little and the itching has started. I've been visiting burn survivor web sites and went to a Pheonix society support group at the local Shriner's hospital and met some really fine people.

Way to go Ped!

From your perspective, it may seem that progress is slow, but from where I am sitting the speed of your recovery is nothing short of miraculous. I am so happy to hear about your healing process. 1.5 to 2 mile walks already?!
...you're sure to be up to speed in no time (and sure to leave my arse in the traildust once again). LOL

Pedxing, that is really great, no more thickener! Sounds really good from our end and we are glad for you. I know on your end it seems slow, but your progress is truly impressive.

It is unpronouncable. You ought to simply say, "the hiker formerly known as David."

That'll work.

It is "Ped Ching", like the Chinese pronounciation of "Xing".

Ped has more of a hybrid accent and certainly not the stereotypical Bah-Stun thing.

There is some Texas in the family tree, I'm told.

Actually I said your name this weekend to Crash Bang as Pedzing and he was like, "Who?". I repeated it three times before he understood who I was talking about. Pedshing huh? Never would have guessed it'd be pronounced like that.

Someone should teach those Chinese how to spell. LOL!

Lyra, the Lyre or Harp was invented by Hermes (Mercury) and given to Apollo his half-brother, who in turn gave it to his son Orpheus, the musician of the Argonauts.

"Ja... son and the Ar.. go... nauts..."

[for all you XTC fans (the BAND, not the drug)]

Alpha Lyrae (Vega) is the 5th brightest star in the night sky, is located about 27 light years away and is some 57 times as intrinsically luminous as our sun.

I used to say how I pronounced it in my profile, but I deleted that and the psychotic rant that went with it years ago.

Some people have called me "pedestrian crossing."

I stole some of the idea from a science fiction book and told my kids when they were little that that I thought the PedXing signs were a tribute to a wandering taoist monk (sort of like David Carradine in Kung Fu) who brought enlightment to many Americans. Everytime he saved the day and enlightened someone they resurrected that sign. Next, I told them that some people thought they had a better explanation for the signs and asked if they could think of one. They puzzled over it for a long time.

Somehow, I thought that would be a good excuse for a trail name.

I always suspected I was wrong on 3 of the 4 listed above but can't get those names out of my head.

Another example is Teva sandals. I pronounce it Tee-va instead of Teh-va.

My 5 year old used to call the hood on her coat a hoooood. Maybe this is genetic.

Teva should be "Tee-vuh".

One consonant makes it a hard "e".

In order to be "Teh-vuh" there would have to be two "v's".

Two consonants make it a soft "e".

I always read "Ped-ex-ing," even though I thought that was probably wrong! And Ewker, I pronounce like the card game euchre: "you-ker"...like dayhiker said. Is that wrong?

I pronounce my own name like treebait does: "leer-a." Even though I know it should probably be "lie-ra"! I just do it that way, b/c that's how I thought it was pronounced when I first read the word, and because that's how "lyric" is pronounced--"leer." And b/c I like to leer at people. LOL! I'm probably a major idiot for pronouncing my own name wrong, but Eat It.
:-D

This has the "correct" pronunciation, that you can listen to:
