MapSource Topo
Any of you people have this CD-Rom? If so, how do you like it?

While we're on the topic, please add opinions of National Geographic topo for Pennsylvania if you have experience.

Thanks!

Mapsource Topo...if it's the Magellan version I have it and it sucks. The Garmin maps are much better, easier to use, more options, etc. But you have to have a Garmin to use it and I don't have one so I used the Magellan crappy version.

Go With The Nat'l Geographic
The Garmin MapSource I have is only useful imo to download topo quadrants into my GPS. Other than that I don't use it because it ain't that good.

I agree Buddur - if it wasn't for the fact its the only software for downloading mapos to my GPS I would not use it.

Map Source Topo
Yes, it is for use with Garmin GPS units.

It's great for laying out trip routes on the computer and then downloading to a GPS. It is very simple to use also! I recently created a 5 day route through the BWCA and was very satisfied with the results. No problems during the trip either when only using the GPS.

When I travel on business I always download the local quads and use it for street navigation although they have a version specifically for this the topo version is detailed enough for me.

So, I'm wondering what you guys don't like about it.

It would be nice if it had more hiking trails embedded in the maps.

I Use It But I Prefer 24-Min Quadrangles For Trail
Mozark, I'm just use to using USGS quality maps for ontrail. But you do bring up some good points, because I do download quads for use in driving. However, I've never downloaded any routes for hiking, just used the quads for topography and location.

It's best if you're in an area with great relief because the 50-foot contour interval causes a loss of topographic detail of more subdued terrain.

Sam's Club
Has the Nat'l Geographic State Series (at least in TN) in a bundle with the top Nat'l parks software for $62.48! The state series is regularly priced at $99.99. This is what I want for Father's Day for sure. link
