Stevie Ray is one of my favorites, but where do y'all think he got his style?

.....the hats, the hippy-dippy clothing and the sound."

well, there's obviously alot of hendrix in his playing but there's more freddy and albert king in stevie's playing.

the thing about these guys is the feeling they put into their playing. emotion. marko calls it soul. someone can play fast but it doesn't always have alot of feeling in it.

i saw a rockumentary about SRV and his drummer was talking about the last night stevie played(he died after the show) and he said there was a moment between songs where nobody was tlaking and stevie blurted out a note on his guitar. just a single note. it brought the entire auditorium(including clapton, cray, jimmy vaughn and others) to it's knees. every person in there got goose bumps from one stupid note.....now that's FEELING!

there are gajillions of great guitarist who you will never hear of.

Hey dewd!!

Robert Cray was on that tour?
He has just about the sweetest "natural stratocaster" sound I've heard.

Listen up people, here is one subject where the dewd knows what he's talkin' about.

if i'm not mistaken tom, that night was one of those all star jam type things. i'm not sure if it was a "tour" per say.

yeah, i love the way cray plays and sings. i don't really care for his tone too much but that's just personal preference.

Yeah, Cray doesn't sustain much, but there is something very '50s about his tone that gets me.

I read where Clapton was in the other bird at the time of the crash.

actually, i believe clapton let stevie have his ride cause stevie had to get back for a flight or something like that.

Stevie was awesome and I totally get you on his soul. I'd love to find his show he did on Austin City Limits on dvd or tape.

Stevie was good but I prefer Robin Trower. Ronnie Montrose was good as well. Did I just date myself?

I saw Stevie Ray in '84 or '85 on Austin City Limits.

WOW !@ !

Stevie Ray played the first half hour and Jimmie played the second half hour.

They should have done it the other way around.
Though Jimmie and the T-Birds were great it was a let-down after Stevie Ray.

I saw Trower in Baltimore in '75.
Leslie West and Mountain opened.
WOW ! !
400 pounds of guitar madness and then Trower!

austin city limits
baume - is that the one with wc clark playing with SRV?

i have to say i would agree jimi, stevie, were among the best but my favorite is jerry garcia... there are some moments were he makes you cringe from a sour note but there are some where he plays some phenominal stuff...

After repeated warnings and missed deadlines, the city of Seattle is giving the owners of the rundown house where Jimi Hendrix grew up one week to move it or face demolition.
