Can someone ID this tick?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 38 of 38 messages posted.
“I got back from a dayhike in the Mathews Arm section of Shenandoah and found a nice sized tick on my thigh, my first. I would say it was at least 2mm long, didn't have to look hard to find it (in fact, I wasn't looking for ticks), brown with white zig zag like lines running down the sides of it's body. Any ideas?” 7:06:20 PM 6/20/04 “bearmagnet...description fits that of a wood tick. No worry about Lyme disease! You only need to worry about the ticks that are barely visible.” 7:16:27 PM 6/20/04 7:17:18 PM 6/20/04 “Doctor say you gonna die Kemo Sabe.” 7:18:22 PM 6/20/04 “Haha, I was playing with one of those in my back yard yesterday.” 7:24:42 PM 6/20/04 “Bearmagnet, where we live you can take the tick into the health department and pay about $15 to have them test it for the Lyme organism. You don't have to do anything to preserve the tick.” 7:25:51 PM 6/20/04 “Thanks, I was thinking dog/wood tick but am paranoid. Of course, now I have to worry about the rare Rocky Mountain spotted fever!” 7:25:55 PM 6/20/04 “omg.....I hate tics....ewwww” 7:30:26 PM 6/20/04 “Do you have a lot of experience with ticks, div?” 7:53:22 PM 6/20/04 “Bearmagnet - A tick has to suck on you for approx. 24 hrs before you can contract Lyme disease. So if you got it today and removed it you don't need to worry.” 8:07:34 PM 6/20/04 “That's the tick of death, dude. Drink lots of alcohol to kill it.” 8:10:41 PM 6/20/04 “Any tick, Bison? I'll start drinking now, SS. Thanks! Will a half bottle of 151 do the trick?” 8:13:38 PM 6/20/04 “Yes any tick, and the 24 hour recommendation is given to be on the safe side, it actually takes about 48 hours of feeding before the spirochetes can make their way to your bloodstream.” 8:26:26 PM 6/20/04 “Thanks Bison! Hope I didn't miss any deer ticks...” 8:28:27 PM 6/20/04 “Of course rare cases have been recorded where it was reported that infection happened after a short time, however it's most likely that in these cases the tick had been attached longer than the person thought it had been. But you never know.” 8:35:07 PM 6/20/04 “had my first, well my second tick the other day too. tinny little brown sucker. looked like I didnt' pull the head with it, but I can't see anything dark, so I must've. At least I hope so. :( dang ticks, I hate 'em” 10:29:33 PM 6/20/04 Don't Worry... “Just as long as the tick isn't about 2mm long and brown with white zig zag like lines running down the sides of it's body you'll be just fine.” 10:40:08 PM 6/20/04 “By your description, I think your tick's name is Fred. I could verify this with a photo, because it could also be his brother Tommy. Hard to tell for sure from the brief description you provided.” 1:11:03 AM 6/21/04 “Phew! You're lucky. If you had gotten that tick at Tock's Island on the Delaware River, it would be the rare, but deadly, Tock Tick.” 8:38:27 AM 6/21/04 “EEWWWW!!” 8:44:10 AM 6/21/04 “<RIMSHOT>” 8:45:54 AM 6/21/04 Did it have a moustache? “ ”8:46:09 AM 6/21/04 “Tick sucking for 24 hours?!!!! Who could have that going on for 24 hours without knowing?” 8:48:23 AM 6/21/04 “What are the ticks like in Michigan this year? I'm going to Hoist Lakes and was hoping they wouldn't be too bad that far north.” 8:55:15 AM 6/21/04 “I don't know about the ticks here in Michigan, Nigal..I have never had one and neither has my dog. I'm sure my day will come, though...but it is not gonna suck for 24 hours, I can tell you that right now.” 8:59:10 AM 6/21/04 “Buddur - thanks for the comfort Buck - Sorry, the tick was cremated Tree - Loved that show! Is it still on? I don't recall the Tick having a moustache. What was the name of the sewer dwelling dude that sounded like rainman?” 10:18:09 AM 6/21/04 “I think it was Sea Urchinman or something like that.” 10:20:11 AM 6/21/04 “Why does Scorch play with ticks????” 10:20:55 AM 6/21/04 “The Tick was a funny funny show. Too bad general TV viewers are morons. ;-)” 10:21:57 AM 6/21/04 “They use to have reruns of it on Comedy Central for a while, but I think they stopped showing it. Too bad the show was hilarious.” 10:24:08 AM 6/21/04 “Ticks suck.” 10:35:50 AM 6/21/04 “Ticks don't like urine. Next time you get one, have your friend piss it off.” 10:41:24 AM 6/21/04 “That was one show where he grew a moustache and it developed a life of its own and attacked him, Bear. And the charater was Sewer Urchin, LZ...” 10:46:31 AM 6/21/04 “LMAO! Why do all the good shows die young? Loved Sewer Urchins Palace!” 10:59:40 AM 6/21/04 “Yeah, he was cool, BM. I also liked Der Vleidermouse. He was the super hero that avoided danger at all costs...” 11:00:45 AM 6/21/04 36-48 hrs “for a Tick to transmit disease. So sayeth the CDC. Must....know...why.” 6:54:56 PM 6/21/04 “See I told ya. Why? The spirochetes that cause Lyme don't move out of the ticks digestive tract until the tick starts feeding, it takes them that amount of time to move through the system and out through the ticks saliva (they must be really slow).” 7:06:31 PM 6/21/04 “That's not a slow spirochete, thats a deaf/dumb/blind spirochete!” 7:11:18 PM 6/21/04
