Mono Pass Trail and Mt Starr summit

SnowDude had to cancel on this trip (work again), so Calhiker, GirlRider, SmokinFatBob and Bailey joined me on this trip. This was GirlRider and SFB's second backpack, the first one was 2 weekends ago. They went out and bought a bunch of gear, and now they only need a tent and bear canister. This time it was SmokinFatBob's birthday so we had cake again.

Sunday we got another late start and bagged Mt Starr. Bailey looked like he could fall in some of the big boulders, and they left the leash at camp, so GirlRider stayed with him, while SmokinFatBob bagged Mt Starr south(12,876' on SFB's GPS) with Calhiker and Snow Nymph. After signing the register, SFB went back to GirlRider and Bailey and they headed back to camp. Calhiker and I headed for Mt Starr north (12,635' on SFB's GPS) and found the register that Ridgeline placed up there Memorial weekend.

After taking photos and identifying surrounding peaks, we got our ice axes and crampons and looked for a good place to glissade down. This was Calhikers first time, so we found a place where he could get the feel of slowing down and stopping with the ice axe. Then we walked over to a steeper slope and glissaded down. Fun!

We packed up and hiked out, trying to outrun the mosquitos near the trailhead. We all jumped in our vehicles and headed out to Lone Pine to eat. Another fun weekend!

That thing flew into my picture! Pretty cool, eh? I thought for sure the skeeters would show up like that too (end of trip photo).

Butt-slidin' was fun, but short. Next year we'll do more of that. Calhiker needs to get new pants, his outer pants soaked thru.

Buck, are you doing the Yosemite trip in July? Guess I should ask on the Yosemite thread. . .

ahhhh, back to webshots to catch up on the previous weekend!

btw, I had to buy another webshots account, so the new photos will be on 1snownymph webshots account from now on.

Beautiful mountains there in Little Lakes Valley. That's one of the first places I want to take my little trailbirds backpacking. In addition to Yosemite, of course.

Peace, SN. 8)
