$10,000 for a guided trip of the AT, what a load of bull.

Ya know...at first it sounds super stupid...but, if you think about it..how much does a thru hike cost? $5-7,000??
Add in hitchiking, mail drops, etc...
well $10,000 ISN'T that unreasonable...especially since they cook yer meals and bing you water most every day..pick you up, take you into town, add in motel rooms, etc...
hey it is lazy hiking at it's best! Sign me up :-P hehheh

It sure would take something away from hiking the trail like that.

if... IF I ever tru-hike the AT I want to do it all the way, no special treatment, so getting my food cooked, etc...wont cut it.

I mean...I want to be able to tell MY STORY, a story I can remember. I dont' want to say "well, and after they cooked my food, dried my cloth and made sure my sleeping bag was clean....bla bla bla...

Na!! sorry! I guess it's a pride thing. To each its own.

Um, guys, just so ya know...I was JOKING ;-P
Seriously, there are companies out here that offer guided tours of the Wonderland Trail also, where they do everything for you except carry your gear.
I am doing the Wonderland in August, and no, I am NOT being guided!! I am doing it the normal way...by blundering around like a maroon and hoping I suceed...(ok, I am cheating, my hiking partner has thru-hiked it 3 years in a row :-D )
But...for a 6 month trip of a lifetime...I gotta admit it'd be nice to have a support team!

Guiding has its place. Not everyone will/can DIY a trip.

I'd rather be the guide than the guided.
