I saw a tornado last night

You know, I've always had this little list in my head of things I'd be curious to see in my lifetime.

Well, last night I checked one off the list when I saw a tornado just east of Appleton, WI. My fiance and I were at the mall - God help me - and we were just about to head out when the Sears manager closed the store. We headed to the windows and watched as nasty low clouds were passing over.

When things had cleared a little, we got in our car and headed east. It was very dark east of us and against the dark backdrop was the funnel. It ended up tearing the roof off of the house of Kathy's coworker and wrecking some storage buildings. No one injured.

Nasty storms, though.

I think that the atmosphere was disturbed by nowslimmer's quick arrival and exit.

A Dust Devel And WaterSpout Are All I've Seen
Glad to hear you're safe and sound and didn't see the twister from the inside.

Good to hear you're ok!
They sure are an awesome display of power aren't they!
I've seen two of them in my life the first of which completely destroyed our house....One minute we were down in our basement and it was pitch black and the next minute we looked up and seen the sky.
I was just a little kid but I can sure remember that!

Scarey situation. Glad you were okay. Tornadoes are one of my worst fears, but we don't get too many where I live. Although I would absolutely love to see one.... from a distance of course.

We've been at the "butt" of some nasty storms right in my area. Tornadoes a week ago. Bad storms every Wednesday and in between.

And dang it, RL, I was gonna say it must have been the whirlwind arrival of NS. (and just how do I know about that???? And I think someone must have bailed NS out of jail -- or busted him out -- cuz there he was, at my office, for LUNCH today. LOL)

I have only seen a couple at a far distance.

However, I have seen the results of an F4/5.

It is like a bulldozer just scraped everything off the face of the earth in it's path.

I have a recurring nightmare of seeing tornadoes. That said, they really don't bother me too much, I just go into the basement.

sorry
I didn't realize that a hot meeting with lizs would set off a storm that far away. Did it send the Fox River over the banks? I had a wonderful view of the river from my room on the top floor of the new dormitory, while I was in Appleton.

Hey, NS!

Thanks for lunch!

Nowslimmer and Lizs in the same room. I think I'll take my chances with the tornado:)

I took the doors off my hardtop wrangler (put these doors in back of my wrangler wrapped in an old sleeping bag) drove to Colorado a few years back to see my brother. Everybody drove by (To/from work) slowly looking with envy with my legs hung out the door. (few thumbs up) It was very nice, but in Kansas, my wife reminded me (phone) that it was tornado season. That took a lot of the pleasure of wandereing that(flat) state from me. So on the way back to NY, I took a northern route thru (the rockies) wyoming & met my first tornado. I was being rocked by wind & huge hailstones. The under-passes were being crowded with cars with the semi's still whizzing thru & I'm thinking somebody's gonna get rear ended. I had a side-band radio with people screaming at the truckers & heard the local DJ warn people of a tornado, but didn't know what town I was in. Folks were pulling off the side of the road, so I did the same. The local radio was telling people to stay away from glass (in our auto's?) Didn't know if I should drive down into the gulley's or stay where I was, but the little jeep was rocking. Thought I was going to flip & was happy to have a rollcage & seatbelt. Watched a closed awning get ripped off an RV in front of me & thought he'd flip first. In the lull, I took off & had to park a couple more times. Got to a gas station where people were crowded under a heavy steel canopy. They made fun of my NY plates but liked my jeep's winch, sideband radio & canoe rack. I told them I had enough of their tonado's & was heading home & we all laughed. My brother in Colorado thought I missed the tornado, because he was sure I had headed south to see another brother in Houston.
