Photo Hike on Sipsey
With so many photo folks on this board I thought about putting together a photo hike in Sipsey. Sometime in the fall when the leaves are changing. We could go in maybe on a friday night and come out on a Sunday. Some thoughts are. How about making it a contest. Summit 24 pics and let all out TT buddies vote on them within one week. Photo gear limited only to what anyone wants to lug around. Make it a learning experiance for all. The contest winner has to reveal how the shots were taken. Any other thoughts, idea's, interest.

Well, my wife won a company photo contest (read $100 savings bond) with a P&S. You just gotta be at the right place at the right time with an eye to composition. Piece of cake.

couchtater, I live an hour from the Pinhoti and have only done the sections around Cheaha. I was thinking of doing half of it in Dec, but may change my mind and go to Savage Gulf instead.

I think it's the weekend of 10/16 that I'll be out of town. 10/23 Bama plays UT in Knoxville. The leaves really change around 10/30, if memory serves. Seems like the leaves change there about a week or so before they do on the east side of the state.

I should have asked when leaves peak instead of quoting dates. In Hamilton, where I grew up the leaves always peak a week or two early. That town sits in a big valley and average lows are several degrees cooler than B'ham. For the out of staters, I'm talking about a place about 30-40 miles West of Sipsey
dayhiker

You can't predict the peak dates that far in advance for Sipsey. The rainfall between now and then plays a major part. Sipsey has so many differant micro-climates that futher adds to the dates. Some peak at differant times. Yea, anyone welcome even non picture taking just hiking and looking at all the neat stuff type of people.
I thought we could set up a base camp and do our own dayhiking/picture taking from there. How bout the 5th - 7th of November. I thought about base camping above fall creek falls. There is a large campsite there that will hold several tents.

I know the place. If I can't make it the whole weekend I'll show up by 8 am. It's a 2 hr drive. If I leave at 5:30 I should be there by 8. I hope to stay the whole weekend, but we'll have to see. This is a great idea.

What areas do you have in mind for the picture taking? I haven't been to that falls in probably 2 1/2 years.

From that campsite there are several good places to take photos. There is also a tree that is marked United States Territory Range 6 section ?. I'll show it to you, its hard to find on your own. It took me two trips before I found it. That campsite is close enough to the parking area that people can come in anytime. The water level in Borden creek is the only kicker. It is close enough to Bigtree if anyone wants to go there also. I'll see if I can set this up on the trips page.

Yea, but that is a bad way to come in after dark. I figure that some will be coming in after dark. The other loop adds about a mile to the hike in. There are some places there where the ground gives way into holes. It would get someones attention after dark. I'll be back in about a week and a half. We're going to see Mickey and then go on down to the Keys. I'll try to post a few pics when I get back.
