New to TT
I am new to the whole message board thing, however I really enjoy reading what you all have to say. I love to hike and am fairly new to backpacking and rock climbing. Does anyone have info on places I can look to find groups or people to hike with. I do not have any friends that share my passion for the outdoors and I would like to meet some.

AK as in Alaska?

Lots of people here hike together. Check out the trips page. It's the little footprint at the top of the page in the green bar.

Welcome, AK. I'm in Idaho, but visiting Cal in a few days. We're hiking in from Saddlebag lake to Conness lakes. Any TTers going to be there the 9-11th?

You have a long drive to get to mountains, but once there, you have an incredible variety of places to visit. Its like the Sawtooths of Idaho, but 100 times larger. Get in there and see the Sierra!

The Varsity, lol!
We stopped there on a school trip once. I guess they thought it was some kind of treat. Afterwards the chaperone told us it was a really famous place. I replied, Famous? For what?

Sometimes the hole in the wall restaurants are the best. There is a cajun restaurant in Nashville called "Bro's" it's way out off of Charlotte Pk in the west side in the slums/heavy industrial area. Man is it good. Best sweet tea and corn bread anywhere.

Another funny segway.

Flash forward about 20 years. Treebait and I happen to be watching a PBS show about Americana and this particular episode was about famous hotdog stands. They do a short segment on The Varsity and it looks strangely familiar. It slowly dawns on me that I've been there.

Me: Hey I think I've been there before!
Treebait: Was the food good?

In the backgroud I hear the narrator state "Everyone finds the food a memorable experience"

Me: I don't remember.

AK, wow you really spilled your guts on that profile. We need a lot more detail. You can look most posters on Phils photo page, and see what this riff raff looks like.

There have been no reported stalkings from the group. Phil is apparently busy, but will eventually post a photo if you send him one or a few.

AKHiker76

"peak bagging" is where you try to get mountain peaks when you hike o backpack. There are alot of peakbagging groups out there like the "southern sixers", Adk 46ers, Catskill 3500 club, and stuff like that. In the east we have poor excuses for peaks so we make up for it by forming clubs.
EarthNsky
6:29:59 PM
6/28/04

compared to the west that is. The west has poor excuses for peaks compared to Asia though so it is all good.
EarthNsky

We have smaller peaks but I've seen some Westerners die on those straight up trails in the 'dacks. They can't believe trails were made before switchbacking was "discovered".
