If you'd like, e-mail me at bernst@placercoe.k12.ca.us There were some serious wildfires in Yosemite last week (they still may be burning, I'm not sure, they have a let-er-burn policy there) and the smoke was horrendous all throughout the region. I sure hope it's cleared by this weekend!”

“Looks like I may be doing the big one this weekend. Backpacking over the Adirondack Great Range. This is probably one of the toughest backpacks in the northeast. 8 mountains over 4000', about 25 miles round trip, and over 9000' elevation gain. I’ll be starting at Rooster Comb trailhead and end up on Marcy, from there it’s mostly down hill back out. The only thing that may stop this trip is bad weather. Wish me luck.”

“Oh, I just wanted to add, Bison, that since I've taken two seperate week trips without my dogs already this summer, with one more week planned in Kings Canyon in September, I couldn't leave them home and hike in Yosemite this weekend. In between these National Park trips I'm taking them to the Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness areas where they are allowed. There are few things sadder to me than having to pack my backpack and see my dogs get excited and then have to leave them at home. :(”
