After 8 months, my wife and I finally got the news we have been waiting for this past Tuesday night.

The next little hiker is on the way and should be entering our world in March of 05.

What I need now are some good trail talk names for the little one. Whatca all think?

Hell no! I will be there.

Thanks everybody. We just finished our fiscal year end here at work so I have been occupied for the past 2 weeks. It has not fully set in yet.

Don't thinks it's Scorchies.

Ultrasound Today
We had our 2nd ultrasound today. This was on a brand new machine and it was cool as hell. The details were so sharp and crisp, you could see everything!

We had the opportunity to find out the sex, but we declined. The operator said that the little one had his/her legs spread apart and she could tell us if we wanted to know. We looked at each other and said no, we will let it be a surprise.

Barbie just pasted 20 weeks so the road if a little more that halfway traveled.

You think they make hiking boots and waldies for infants?

Good luck, pal!!!

My wife and I were the same way.
We wanted to be surprised about the sex of the kids.
They were all boys and we kinda knew intuitively.

The first time around we didn't even have a girl's name picked out.

If they said "can tell you" it means it's a boy. If they said"think we can tell you" it's a girl.

I love spoiling a surprize.

Ruby: Well do

I have thought all along that this one would be a girl. Just a gut feeling. I got another feeling in there today looking at the monitor. It felt like a boy. Everyone including Barbie fells that way too.

I don't know what made me feel this way, it just happened.

On our first kid, the operator took a pic of the ultrasound, but it went out of focus just as she hit the button, so the pic sucked. Before that, the image was great.

We waited to find out the sex too. I'm glad we had names for both sexes picked out, because it was a girl! My family is infamous for having boys.

Baby advice
For a fever: You can interleave Motrin and Tylenol at two-hour intervals to help keep a fever down. Or, you can simply take the child to the emergency room, where the fever will immediately disappear. Bonus: you get to listen to the nurses berate you for being "first-time parents". Extra bonus: If the child is female, and it New Year's Eve, she will flirt with the drunks in the waiting room.

I almost bought Laurel infant sized hiking boots before she was born. Glad I didn't, because she has such big feet! She's already a toddler sized 8 shoe. I'll be getting her a pair of boots soon though.

My sister-in-law is a nurse, so we will call her with any problems first.

I have been around my neices and nephews long enough, not to freak out at the first sign of a cough. I know it is not the same, and I will probably eat my words, but I don't think I will be the pshcho parent some of my friends are.

Hey, she had like a 104F fever that wouldn't go down, so we took her to the E.R. We didn't know the tylenol-motrin trick then.

OK, OK, we were psycho first-time parents, sheesh. My poor son, he's gotta be squirting blood before he goes to the doc.

At that point, I would take the child to the hospital. 104 is pretty high.

You could always fill the tub up with cold water and ice cubes and dunk them. When they ask why you are doing this, tell them it is to get them ready for cold temperature backpacking.

lol, we tried a cool bath...it worked a little bit. The doc told us that usually that hurts more than it helps because people make the bath too cold, and it induces shivering, which raises the fever.

You start with tepid water, then slowly cool it further. Cold water can cause the patient to go into shock.

I think I made the water just slightly cool to the forearm. I can't remember, heck it's been, uh, 9 years now almost.
