Wolfeyes Meets Ivygal-TRIP ReportView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 19 of 19 messages posted.
WHAT A BLAST!!! “Met Ivygal at the trailhead parking lot around noon on Thursday for a short, simple, relaxing backpacking adventure at Wakely Lake. As I walked up to her while she was unloading her truck, she told me I looked just like my picture. I thought, great. At least I am who I think I am. We donned the packs, talked about drinking a beer that was waiting for us after our hike, and started on our way around the lake. We hiked about 3/4 of a mile when Ivygal turned to me and said, “Hey, you wanna put your beer in my cooler so it gets cold?” I thought to myself, ummmm.....isn’t a little late for that at this point since we are this far? I told her no, it was okay but thanks for asking after we left the parking lot. She laughed and said she doesn’t think too fast. I agreed and we continued on. I was getting tired of dragging the dog so I left her off her leash and to my surprise, she stayed right with us the whole time. She was great! We hiked up to a point where the trail is closed due to erosion but decided to go that way anyways. It was great fun! It was like a land bridge over the ponds, and bushwhacking all at the same time. It was a great 3 mile or so hike around the lake and a beautiful day. We laughed and worried that we would get arrested but as you can see, we didn’t. We made it to camp and opted to set up the tents before we went back to the car for the cooler and beers. The hike back to the lot is less than a mile so no gear here. We got to the cars, drove to the “I Forgot Store”, loaded up on junk food and then came back to carry it all back up to camp. Her beer was pretty cold since it had been in the cooler while mine was pretty freakin’ hot since it had been in my car. I put my beers in her cooler at the lot but it wasn’t very cold when we got back to camp. I opened one of my piss warm beers and proceeded to drink it. About 15 minutes goes by and Ivygal says to me, “If I had been thinking, I would have offered you one of my cold ones instead of letting you drink that now.” Oh boy. Another thoughtless moment. I gave her a hard time about that and we were off and running with laughter the rest of the day. To make the rest of this story short and sweet and to give her a chance to add her own experience, I will just say that Daphne had the best time ever! She swam, ran, swam, ran, met all kinds of people, found something in a hole and barked her head off. We met Mike, the fisherman, and enjoyed some Budweisers with him before he took off on his special mode of transportation to go fishing. We walked around and sat enjoying the sunset. The moon was beautiful as all get out even though neither one of knew what the hell that big orange thing was until we walked around to check it out. We thought it was a big light of some sort in the woods. Damn beer. We called it a night around midnight, drank ourselves sober, and slept pretty good. It was a little chilly but I slept okay. We skidaddled out of there early this morning to go get coffee and breakfast at the local Big Boy, had a decent breakfast, said our goodbyes, and I drove one very tired dog home. I had a great time and it was so much fun to meet Ivygal. She is great fun! Hikes slow like me and laughs at everything even if it isn’t funny. Can’t wait to do it again! Wolfeyes Pics” 2:23:06 PM 7/02/04 “cool lake! Love the "where is my camera" shot!” 2:27:24 PM 7/02/04 “Thanks for the pictures. Loved the shot of Daffers "resting" on the way home, sorta reminds me of myself.” 2:36:31 PM 7/02/04 “Do you shave that poor dog? Cell Phone!!!!!!! Shame shame! ;-)” 2:36:48 PM 7/02/04 “Ah no...I do not shave that poor dog! She is naturally that way. And as for the cell phone, well I had to try calling someone but it didn't work out.” 2:55:59 PM 7/02/04 “Poor Daffers. You wore her out! Glad to see you had a fun trip. Sorry you can't make it to Ithaca.” 2:57:54 PM 7/02/04 “looked like a lot of fun. My dog would insist on sleeping w/ me. She keeps my feet warm:)” 3:08:30 PM 7/02/04 “Oh, she sleeps with me alright...or should I say I sleep with her? She just didn't want to take a nap yet but I did. She crawls right into the bag with me, hogs the Big Agnes, and snores too. She is spoiled rotten.” 3:26:47 PM 7/02/04 “Glad y'all had a good time.” 3:33:21 PM 7/02/04 “yep, I've got one just like that too!” 3:34:54 PM 7/02/04 “Daphne? Oh hell,...I gotta go change captions on my webshots. Wolfeyes, how dare you change her name from Sophie to Daphne since I saw you last!!!” 4:07:49 PM 7/02/04 “Ivygal, you still drunk?” 4:22:42 PM 7/02/04 “your the second person to ask me that today...lol. WHEN I sober up, I will be defending myself with the TRUE version of that trip ;)” 4:27:12 PM 7/02/04 “oh, sheet...you wanna nuther beer? LOL!” 4:30:18 PM 7/02/04 “Fun trip! Ivy - you look different. Did you cut your hair?” 4:53:19 PM 7/02/04 “Beatiful. Thanks for sharing.” 4:57:03 PM 7/02/04 “Nice trip report, thanks for taking us along!” 5:02:00 PM 7/02/04 “Okay, I've been busy unpacking, drying out, and putting away gear...AND a cooler that "I" remembered to take. (boy, that cold brew was great)!! Tara...yes, I did cut my hair but lets not draw attention to that mop when I'm hiking...lol Wolfeyes, to bad for you that you already posted some of those pics. You prolly could have used them in the future for blackmailing purposes. I'm not much for writing a trip report so I guess I'll have to let you believe Wolfies version of the "truth". But, I cannot believe that wolfeyes didn't mention the loon at Wakeley Lake!! I didn't see any loon but heard them frequently calling in the evening. At first I didn't think it was that big of a deal to hear a loon cuz I just knew I had heard them before. Somewhere. But after thinking about it I remembered that where I had heard that sound before was on something like a meditation tape. (The loon call goes very well with the native American flute)..lol. Actually, the sound of the loon is very pretty...soothing. Wolfeyes is somewhat of an expert on the loon. She told me they have like 4 different calls. She likes their distress call the best. What kind of a person.....!! Anyway.... Wolfie, I read today that that section that was closed...that we hiked anyway (ahem)...is only closed from March 1st-July 31 because it crosses a loon nesting area. Birds bomb-diving us?? We're lucky government helicoptors didn't surround us! My pics are pretty much the same as Wolfies except for the ones I took on a hike while she slept off some budweiser. http://community.webshots.com/user/ivygal36” 9:12:24 PM 7/02/04 “Judging from your trip report the authorities wouldn't have busted you. Prolly figured just a couple more loons nesting. lol” 6:59:11 AM 7/03/04
