I tried it few days ago and nobody bit. I'll try it with a different title because this is a current area of concern for me.

Attn: Picure nerds!
"So here's the deal. I've got a few grand BURNING a hole in my pocket. (i'm single, no kids, and my truck is paid for; that's why I have a little mad money) And I'm ready ti make the leap into digital photography. A huge contributing factor is that my 35mm SLR just died an horrible death serving the cause (it involved being chased by a crazed mob of mosquitos). Do not mourn my camera, I bought it at a pawn shop and it lived a fufulling second life in my care.

I'm definately looking at the canon products becasue I've had good expiriences with them in the past AND I also already have 3 lenses, actually I may have 2 (the 75-300 mm probably will die of its wounds).

My question is this, what adventages does the EOS 10D have over the rebel? Is the $450 difference worth it? Is the 6.3 megapixels going to be outdated so soon that I should just buy the cheaper camera? Also, what is the deal with the mm rating doing different things on a digital? Are my zooms going to be more zoomy? Do I need to pick up a 30mm lens to do what my beloved 50mm does now?"

You would have better luck posting these questions to a usenet photography group.

You should get some hits from our Canon users here. Give them a chance to chime in.

Most digital cameras have a digital zoom function - so if you have an optical zoom (i.e. a zoom lens) you can multiply the optical zoom by the digital zoom capability.

If I understand correctly, optical zoom is better because you don't lose any detail (i.e. points per inch).

I'm sure the 10D is a wonderful camera....and has many more features...but if it were me I would buy the D-Reb and some high end "L" glass to go with it. Lenses almost always out last cameras...so if you have Pro lenses and want to change camera bodies when the new 8,10,12 megapixel cameras come out...not a big deal I'm sure the demand for used D-Rebs will be high.

I don't understand everything I know about the 1.6 zoom factor thingy. Looking through your 300mm it has a cropped field of view making it appear more like a 480mm.

I think you will be much happier with a low end camera and high end glass than you would be with a high end camera and low end glass.

D-Reb with pro glass will reach it's full potential.

10-D with consumer glass....well you get the idea.

hope that makes sense.
