How was your 4th ????

“Howdy,
I spent my 4t drive to Shaver Lake to drop my son and 9 other boyscouts to summer camp @ Camp Chawankee. It was a long drive there and back in one day. I got home at 9. So I was too tired to enjoy any fireworks. But, I didn't mind. He's going to have so much fun at summer camp.”

“On TV I watched a fabuous display of the fireworks presented at Cocoa Beach, FL, over the ocean, while listening to the noise from the Melbourne Fireworks drifting through my windows from the Indian River nearby.

Then I switched channels and watched
Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular at NYC's
Bryant Park with the New York Pops Orchestra. One can't have it any better. Everyone seen in the crowd looked happy and I think even the Statue of Liberty was smiling.

“Drove home from my Grandparents' house just in time to catch the fireworks in all the towns in NJ (North Brunswick, Edison, Woodbridge, Clark, Cranford, Summit...just to name a few) along the way back. I tell you, cars were pulling over on the freeway to watch the shows. Quite nice.

I also heard on the radio that Bay Fireworks and North Fork Bank did quite an amazing show over at Jones Beach in Long Island...”

“Saturday: I went fishing in my canoe and got sunburned. That night I went to a bar and watch fireworks across the lake.
Sunday: I went and did more fishing and got more sun burnt.
Monday: I went to my grandmothers for a barbeque to celebrate the fourth as well as my sister and cousin’s birthdays.”

3 July I spent the afternoon cutting a good sized blowdown on the AT in SNP”

“I hiked 13 miles to finish out a 60 mile through hike of the Loyalsock Trail.”

“Tiring. The "mass exodus" returning to their cars from Gas Works Park kept me up half the night. It's nice to live by the fireworks display and it's not nice to live by the fireworks display! LOL! Then all the crappy food I ate kept me up with indigestion. I wish I were in my bed sleeping right now. : (”

“I had to come in late myself.

We had the big Fourth of July party at my house this year. My mom's husband smoked some ribs, and I smoked some chicken leg quarters and bratwurst. Everything was good.

Then about 2:00AM, my daughter wakes me up saying her tummy doesn't feel good. I give her some medicine and go back to bed, but it takes me almost two hours to get back to sleep, so I came in late today and I'm working late tonight to make up for it.”

“Took Friday off on a whim, spent it at the beach. Found out Saturday before going to my nephew's suprise 16th b-day party that my wife is pregnant with our 5th child. Went to a wedding Sunday followed by a very good reception. Monday the 4th went to the local festival in my rural town and took 2nd my first year entering the annual horseshoe tournament. Watched fireworks from the local Jr. High school's football field, being fired off from the neighboring High School's field, definitely the closest vantage point I have ever had for fireworks. Also won one of the raffles. It was a great weekend! I'm fricken tired though, think I'll go to bed early tonight.

“Thinkbubelz & I started building our deck this weekend... I say started because he and one of our friends, were only able to get the post holes into the ground (clay soil sucks the big one!)

I fixed them nice cold gatorade slushies as they wore their arms out with the 2-man post hole digger. It was partway through the 4th hole when they realized the Home Depot gave them the wrong bit, but they decided just to push on and finish the holes with the bit they had.... We have 3 posts in and concrete poured--hoping to finish the other 3 holes tomorrow--then we can actually do the building! :-) I'm so excited! We've been in our house for 12 years now, and only just finally building our deck--can't wait to use it when it's done!

On the 4th, Thinkbubelz & I did a Chinese Lion Dance for the local parade.... there were only 4 people, Thinkbubelz & me and my parents. My dad drove the truck and my mom played the cymbals from inside the truck.... I got to drum (normally Think's job) and he manned the lion head (too heavy for me to carry)... It was fun, but boy are my arms sore today!”

“I spent it in bed, a day after spending the day in the emergency room. I may have lyme disease. Guess it could have been better...”

“Thanks for the kind words. They did give me an amti-biotic on Sunday. I've been taking it twice a day and I am starting to feel human again. It actually started a week ago, but waas under control by taking tylenol every four hours. Once the pills wore off, everything changed for the worse again. It got better later in the week and then took a turn for the worse following Saturday's radio show. Then, Sunday, I couldn't take it anymore. So, I went to the hospital. I thought it may be West Nile virus, being that I was full of skeeter bites from the Harriman trip. But, WNV isn't what the media cracks it up to be. Most people just ride it out and it goes away, as there's no treatment for it. Bit, Lyme, apparently, is a lot worse and can kill ya if untreated. So, I'm concenred about this. I hope it was just a funky virus or something...”

“Yah, Lyme is way worse. Hikin' Mike posted some of his experiences with it. His went undiagnosed for a long time though.”
