If it's this nice, I think I'll go. If it's cold and dreary... I may have to pass...

I've been trying to do a lot of my walking on my treadmill and elliptical rider at home, but this weather is so nice that it really makes me want to get outside and get even more motivated!

“So, how was the hike?
I'm kind of glad I wasn't able to go. The cold and wind would have been a little too much for me!”

“The wind and cold would've been too much for Wolfeye's doggie too, so she stayed home (couldn't find a dog sitter) and so did I. I just don't wanna go solo so close to civilization.
Birch, Reformed Lurker and I went out to Silver Lake for a quick and early dayhike, Saturday morning. We met at the trailhead
at 8am and hiked about 7 miles. We saw some Sandhill cranes up close (about twenty feet away), feeding in some shallow water. It was a good hike, great to stretch those muscles with some good hills! After we left RL, Birch and I drove into Dexter and stopped at the bakery for a chocolate chip scone and a cup of coffee. The wind and temps and rain weren't a problem in the woods but once we got out it was cold! We then headed down Huron River Drive to check out the rapids at Delhi Park (for kayaking later). These are the only class III rapids in Michigan and they're only around in spring. They look fun (and scarey) and we hope to get a chance to run them this spring. Birch is going to get ahold of the local livery and see what fees to pick up a kayak and how far we can go, etc. Anyone else game?”

“I'd be interested, Sass. Keep me posted. With multiple vehicles, perhaps using a livery could be avoided?”

“Probably. We can haul four boats on our car at once. I was thinking it'd be alot of back and forth driving but maybe I'm thinking too much. The time and gas would amount to much less than the cost of a livery pick-up.”

“It turned out really nice over by me, it was not suposed to be, but the sun was out al day and it was really warm, so I ended up hiking some trails close by. I have only kayaked in small lakes, an a river once, I dont think Im ready for rapids yet. But It sounds really fun!”

I almost asked if you would have been interested in dayhiking and bringing Birch and Thinkbubelz along!

As it was, we stayed home most of the day-- I couldn't take the wind and cold... It was a good thing I didn't go camping. We hung out with a couple of friends of our Saturday night, and it turned out that one of our friends' mom had a brain aneurysm and went into the hospital on Sunday. I am thankful that we had time to spend with our friend on Saturday Night... Her mom had brain surgery today-- luckily, it looks like they got the aneurysms in time and we hope that she will be okay....”

My friend has a kayak-- maybe she'd like to tag along! ;-)”

“Pink, I don't want to come off as unfriendly or mean but I think I'd rather stick with folks I've paddled with before, who I know can handle some rapids or at least know what to do if they tump. Class III is pretty exciting for around here and looking at them they could be pretty tricky. Maybe next time we go out on a lake or a calmer river okay?”

Thinkbubelz & I probably wouldn't mind doing a "lazy river" canoe trip with you and birch sometime in the summer! :-)

I'm not sure what my friend has kayaked before, but I know she's gone on some of the kayaking trips with her sister... :-) You are probably right, though--she may be better suited for slower waters. :-)”

Perfect place to try out you sea legs.”

dhutch-- how were your horses? Did you get your car fixed?”

“Yes Pink, due north of International Falls MN. Basically it is the Boundry Waters area I am talking about, except we would be going up into Canada and entering the park from the northern border.

It will be a most awesome experience.”

The big green explorer now has a new engine. I'm back on the road. Man, I need to think about getting my daughter a newer car. What a heap! I had to drive it all last wk.

“You're right, Sass! I learned to drive a 70's model Grand Tourino. My mother referred to it as the Ruffels potato chip because it had so many dents from all of us kids learning to drive. I took it on two wheels twice... no wait, that was my Dad's Elderado. Anyone remember that song with the lyrics, Terminous Elderado, sung my Michigan's very own, wild man. I think Alzheimer's has set in! I can't think of his name for the life of me!”

“1500 acres burned in Roscommon Cty 84 wild fires so far this year (so I hear).”

“Its raining by me today, So it should be ok as far as fires. What I heard was lots of brush fires were going on, which is different than forest fires. But no one really cares.”

“It was raining pretty ferociously early this morning! Hopefully, it will be clear in the evenings, though (when I do my walking!)”

“A couple of years ago, we had a big wildfire in Monroe County at the Pointe Aux Peaux State Wildlife Area. The place is only about 200 acres, but almost all of it went up. There were all sorts of beach houses nearby and they were all in trouble. I was bummed because one of my secret shoreline spots got changed bigtime.

I never thought about wildfires in southern Michigan until then, but it happens.

A few years ago, I saw some bigtime wildfires in S. Dakota. It was interesting to watch the helicopters and cargo planes dropping load after load of water and chemicals on the thing.”

“It looks like it is starting to by me Pink, so if it hasnt cleared yet it should soon, Im pretty sure the storm came from the west and was headed East.”

“Well, I have meters inside of sanitary sewers, and I need some big rain events to see how much stormwater gets into the sanitary sewers.

I mean, um, yeah, we need the rain to green up the grass and stuff. :)”

We had snow today. Crazy weather. Right now there are clouds in the sky and the near full moon is reflecting brightly between them. I love the night sky.”

“Just checked the NWS online, less then 1" today, 3-5" tonite, 1-3" sunday. How exciting...:( It was 82 a week on tuesday.”
