No. My theory is that they always formed right over the top of the building.

But, I did see one last summer in Appleton/Kaukauna, WI. It blew a roof off a building.

I didn't see Jim Cantore, though.

BLEAH... This weather sucks!!! Just blowing around and not enough snow to do anything in. What a waste! (If it snows, I'd prefer a blizzard, otherwise don't snow at all!)

I have a wedding next Saturday where the bride has us wearing dresses with thin spaghetti straps. It better be back in the 70s by then!!!

So far next Saturday's forecast is partly cloudy with a high of 57°. =)

I have a dinner dance to go to for our union. It's either a summer dress or a tweed suit, lol.

Hey everyone.
I cannot wait until Memorial Weekend-- aFter that, I'm off for the summer! :-)

Am planning to up my walking mileage and hopefully do some camping soon! Is anyone doing anything in the mitten state in June?

I posted this to the other Michigan thread, but I'll try it here... :-)

Can anyone recommend some good day hikes near the St. Joseph area? My family is going to stay at a KOA "Kamping Kottage" over Memorial Weekend.

I'm hoping to expose them to some day hiking. Nothing too strenuous-- don't want to wear out my folks...then again... maybe that would be a good thing.... LOL

I'd like something more challenging for Thinkbubelz and me, but less so for my family who aren't hikers....

Spirit--my mom, dad and aunt are not camping types at all, although we did manage to get them to do some car camping when I was younger. We rented the cabin so that it would be easier on them... It was pretty reasonable ($135/night for 6 people--has its own kitchenette and restroom)--most of the other cabins ranged from $600 and up in that area! :-)

Thinkbubelz and I will sometimes rent the Kamping Kabins when we are passing through an area on a road trip--not only are they usually cheaper than local hotels, you don't have to take time to set up and break down camp-- you just toss your sleeping bags back in the car and head off--less time and hassle that way! :-)

Pink there is Dr T.K Lawless county park in Cassopolis. 15+ miles of trails, 9 loops. Cass county Parks dept is in charge of it and will have more info @ 616-445-8611

And there's the Meyer Braodway and Coon Hollow Parks in St. Joseph. 4 miles of trails w/ loops. St Joseph county parks 616-467-5519

Both were found in the Trail Atlas of Michigan , an invaluable resource for finding trails anywhere in the state. It's by Dennis R. Hansen. Well worth the $30.

Thanks for the tip UPluver-- I don't want my family to get run over... :-)

Any State parks in the area? Seems like the trails listed in the area in the trail atlas tend to be very short...

I've been to Warren Dunes State Park for a day hike, but it has been a couple of years. Enough trails to fill two or three days at a leisurely pace. VERY popular on the weekends. So get there early. Oh, and you have pay to get in the gate.

We ended up going to St. Joseph on Saturday and Walking along the Bluffs and the Pier off of Silver Beach....

Sunday we went walking at a nature trail near there... My mom was eternally grateful for the use of our hiking sticks as she has been experiencing some knee pain and it really helped her up and down the small hills on our walk... :-) My dad "humphed" when I offered the hiking stick, but ended up appreciating it as well... :-)

Hit a few wineries, too! :-)

Too bad it was too chilly to go into Lake Michigan and hang out on the beach... but it was still fun seeing all of my family together!

We also stopped for a short hike on the ridge of the Van Buren State Park...

:-D
I know... I was just teasing! :-) I'd love to put together a car camping trip, but we want to learn more about backpacking, too... With the cost of gas, though, any other trips we do this fall will have to be limited in distance. :-(

When we left for the east coast last week, the gas was $2.47 at its cheapest in Eastern PA / NJ area... When we came back, most of Maryland was at about $3.49... it was $2.99 near Toledo and we were ecstatic!

I was in Lansing yesterday for a meeting and saw it at $2.95... Sad day when almost $3 a gallon is "affordable"....

BTW- I still need to take you up on the offer for the massage! :-) Lost your email address, though! :-(

OK, the Hurricane relief party is a go! :-)

We're doing a Potluck / BBQ - with a cajun food theme... :-)

Anyone got a good recipe for hurricanes (either virgin or fully loaded)?

We'are asking people to bring something for the hurricane victims. From what St. Vincents told me, they especially need: baby diapers, toiletries, food, etc. I was thinking of making it a clothing drive, but they are up to their ears in clothing at this time!!

Hope the party goes well!

Sounds like fun Pink! Unfortunately, I have school all day and Birch will be in Houston. I'll have to get right to my folks house after school and get Abby.

I google for recipes all the time. I'm always amazed at what I find. No matter how weird the request is there are always tons of recipes. Hurricanes should be easy to find. Good luck!

Hey pink, send me an email. There's a chance I can attend.

I believe an authenic Hurricane recipe calls for Passion Fruit Juice. But, my bar never stocked that so we used...

1 shot each of light and dark rum
2 oz each of OJ and Pineapple Juice and
a shot of Grenadine.

But, if you get Passion Fruit, use that (4 oz) and a shot of Grenadine.

Or... buy Hurricane mix. lol

I feel so lame,
We haven't done any camping this summer/fall!

Fall schedule is really busy, so I don't get to do many weekend trips... ;-(

ANyone interested in doing some local (Detroit-area) dayhiking or maybe a short local trip the weekend of October 22?

Maybe a trip to REI is in order...

Does anyone know of any good trails that are not over-run with hunters at this time of year?

Sorry, but, I'm hiking the JRT with Lukee1982 and company Oct.14-16th. Then I'll probably be finished with the hiking trips and won't get out again until X-C skiing / snow begins?

Unless, Sass and birch want to do an overnight Huron River trip this same weekend or the next one after?
